LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Rabbit Computing: Neurodivergent, Queer, and Proud to Offer These Deals!

Welcome Rabbit Computing!

They’re a new hosting company who contacted us to run an offer.  Refreshingly, it wasn’t just a list of servers and and prices, but a company with an interesting story and a strong vision.  I asked them some questions, they answered, and here we are.  I think you’ll like this one.  Plus there’s an exclusive coupon code for LowEndBox!

They offer VPS, shared, game, and Fediverse hosting, all based in an Equinix datacenter in Chicago.  Their staff is also RHCE-certified so this isn’t some summer host reading recipes out of a tutorial library but rather someone who knows the tech stack at a very professional level.

First, here’s a brief backgrounder on them in their own words:

Rabbit Computing, an innovative hosting provider, stands out as a beacon of inclusivity and technological excellence. Founded and nurtured by a dynamic team of neurodivergent and queer individuals, the company thrives on its commitment to fostering a diverse and supportive environment. With a resolute dedication to open source software, Rabbit Computing empowers its clientele with cutting-edge solutions while embracing transparency and collaboration. Going beyond traditional norms, the company welcomes the future by accepting cryptocurrency, paving the way for seamless transactions. Situated in the heart of Chicago, their state-of-the-art data center ensures top-tier reliability and performance. What sets Rabbit Computing even further apart is its team of Red Hat Certified Engineers, embodying unparalleled expertise and proficiency that underpins the exceptional service they provide.

I talked with Rabbit’s Chance Callahan and learned more about this new player:

Q: How long has Rabbit Computing been in business and what made you decide to jump into this competitive market?

Callahan: Rabbit Computing has existed in one form or another for a few years now, but in the past six months or so we’ve been making and implementing steps to make the jump from a friends and family type thing to an actual business.

Q: This is the first time I’ve had a provider describe themselves as a “dynamic team of neurodivergent and queer individuals”. I’ve always felt that IT is an incredibly diverse industry, though you’ll get arguments on that from others. What do you think about IT from that perspective, and do you intend to make that part of your marketing story?

Callahan: Yes, I believe the diversity in the IT community is really what makes it great. When you’re stuck in a silo, it’s hard to get stuff done, but when you take and accept diversity of thought and culture, incredible solutions can be found for impossible problems. The great thing is most people don’t care if you are white or black, gay or straight, all they care about is your skillset and how it can be used to achieve the goals of the team. I do intend to make our neurodivergence and queerness part of our marketing, because it is who we are and there is no advantage from hiding it.

Q: Fediverse hosting is something we haven’t seen before. I set up Diaspora a few years ago and it was a total pain. Is the value proposition for this service that you take all the config headache out of things and a less technical user can get up and running on Mastadon?  If I may ask, are you using Docker to host Mastadon instances?

Callahan: You are correct regarding our Fediverse hosting. The goal is to transfer the hassle of setting it up from the customer to us. Thankfully due to a mix of Ansible playbooks and Docker containers (good guess!), it’s fairly painless for us to get all of that done.

Q: I’m not a gameserver person. I see you offer Minecraft, CounterStrike, and and TF2 hosting, and also Pterodactyl. Is the latter for “all the other games we don’t have a specialized service for” or is there some other angle for Pterodactyl?

Callahan: Pterodactyl is very popular among people who want to run game servers, but unless you have a good degree of experience with Linux and Docker, it can be a rough process to get it up and running. The goal with our services is to offer a spectrum of support, everything from full managed instances to just helping people get it up and running on their own hardware.

Q: How do you see the future of Rabbit Computing?

Callahan:  I’m hoping a year or two from now my teammate and I can make Rabbit Computing our day jobs. We want to be known as the host that is upfront and honest with you. If we’ve accidentally oversold, we’ll refund you immediately and give you a window of when we’ll have availability again. If a customer comes to us needing things done a certain way and we can’t do it, we’ll tell them. There is no point in screwing customers over because at the end of the day we’re just screwing ourselves over.

Q: And finally…where did the name come from? There must be a story…and a cute mascot?

Callahan: So, the name comes from my mother and the movie Twister with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. One of the characters in the movie is their navigator, his callsign on the radio is Rabbit. When I was growing up in Kansas, I was obsessed with that movie, weather, and cartography. Eventually my mom adopted it as my nickname, so I chose to use it with this company to honor her in a way.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us!

They certainly seem to be a sharp crew.  I poked around their web site and noticed the link to their virt panel gives a certificate error, so I mentioned it to Chance.  The reply:

Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about the certificate issue. oVirt gets rather cranky when you try to move it off of its internal CA. I have provided documentation though in our activation email on how to install its CA certificate, and we don’t mind getting on a remote session to help customers with that if needed.

Here’s something else that’s cool: the coupon code below will give you 20% off the first three months for all services!  Woot!

As always, peruse their Terms of Service before buying, and if you’re good to go, you can pay with credit/debit cards or crypto.  Any questions?  Head to their web site and open a ticket, or comment below!

Now read on for the coupon code and a special shared hosting deal as well!

  1. If I have learned nothing else in the course of my career, it’s that anybody who feels compelled to tell you about their sex life as an advertisement for a technical service is probably covering up some other shortcoming by appealing to Democrat identity politics.

I look forward to hearing about the absolute catastrophe this turns into.

This makes me uncomfortable, why name rabbit computing. Rabbits mate a lot and multiply fast due to creating offspring.
From what I gather, the staff of this hosting company are not able to do that.
The naming scheme is a little weird.

    • These types don’t produce live offspring, but they do reproduce rapidly by seducing the offspring of others in our public schools with the help of the Democrat Party and drag queen story hour type events.

They have also been known to “mate” with frightening rapidity, and this is one of those areas where they take that diversity stuff quite seriously.

  5. What’s really most unfortunate about this is that you can’t market good products and services this way. Only bad products and services can do this.

Like, if I were to start a web hosting company, and I came to LowEndBox and said “Hey RainDog, I just started a company that hires exclusively white heterosexual males, and I’d like to advertise my discriminatory hiring policy on your site, could you help me out?”

First of all, he’d probably anticipate the hell storm of Jewish nonsense that would instantly come his way, and say no.

But even if he did accept, the next step would be that I get a visit from the labor department and a bunch of Jewish “civil rights” lawyers, and every Left wing activist in the country would be submitting job applications claiming I discriminated against them for being gay/black/”minor attracted person”/helicopter gender or whatever the latest fashionable victim group is of the given day.

Which is preposterous, because if we’re entirely honest with eachother, everybody knows that the best way to make sure you don’t have any problems is to have a bunch of straight white guys dealing with it. Nobody ever had a problem with their hosting and was like “wow, if only I had a homosexual on the job”.

But there’s plenty of times when you have had a problem and you’re like “This is because they pander to affirmative action nonsense and outsource to third world countries.

A sincere and positive way to market your service would be to say “We’re above all this idiocy, we’re white men and we don’t care about your stupid Left wing BS”.

But that’s illegal, because White heterosexual males are the ONLY demographic in the country not protected by civil rights laws.

I’m not surprised that the comments here are full of bigotry, but someone should probably stop the guy who’s posting unhinged Nazi conspiracy rants.

    September 3, 2023 @ 6:28 pm | Reply
    • I must assume you’re referring to me since I mentioned the undisputed fact that Jews make up a vastly disproportionate number of civil rights lawyers. If you think this is a conspiracy theory, perhaps you should ask Roberta Kaplan, who already sued me and Donald Trump.

This is not something they would seek to dispute, since they write about it with pride at the World Jewish Congress and Forward.com and other Jewish publications. For Roberta Kaplan, her abuse of the legal system is a form of ethnic activism and she says so in interviews with ethnocentric Jewish publications like Jewish World and Jewish Telegraphic Agency, all the time.

It’s not bigotry, much less a “conspiracy rant”, to tell the truth. You and people like you have overstepped your power levels. You have made a mockery of your ideology by pushing transgenderism into public schools, denying there is such a thing as genetic race differences, or biological sex, and now nobody takes you seriously. Except in so far as they consider you a serious threat. Which is doubtless the more accurate assessment.

Everybody now knows what I knew a decade ago. You are deceivers who play up fake victim narratives to gain sympathy from the people whom you persecute. You are the boy that cried wolf, and now it is time for dinner in the woods.

Five years ago, nobody would have dared to criticize the “queer neurodivergent” hosting company for fear of the very Jewish lawyers you describe as a conspiracy theory.

Now people who have nothing to do with anything that could be described as “Nazi” are talking about unsubscribing from this mailing list because they recognize it as disreputable to promote this sort of thing.

      You lost.

      I won.

      The contest is over.

    • What’s most telling about this comment is its lack of substance, and how typical that lack of substance is. The “comments are full of bigotry” it is asserted, simply because others notice the obvious, which is that there is no upside to having homosexuals brag about their deviant sexual behavior while running your server.

The queer web hosting company insists that diversity is so wonderful, but is rather vague as to how that actually leads to increased speed or uptime. This is obviously a necessity, because no such benefit may be discovered.

The only power they have, is a power which is slipping from their grasp. I have played a major role in taking it from them, and I am proud of this accomplishment. All the suffering they have inflicted on me in the process is so small a price to pay for that pride.

The power of which I speak is that they have been immune to criticism, and they have had the power to silence those who challenge their ridiculous assertions. Their ideas cannot withstand scrutiny, and so they make sure that this scrutiny is crushed.

The commenter is willing to tolerate the other “bigotry” but describes as “unhinged Nazi conspiracy rants” the mention of the unmentionable. Jewish power.

Recall that these people have no problem with lying. If I came here and told you I was a woman, this would be fine. They love liars. The commenter does not say that I have uttered a falsehood.

It is the truth which troubles them so deeply that it must be crushed.

But their capacity to do this is fading rapidly, and they have yet to adjust to that reality.

  9. The forum thread about this really proves my point. The people who support this nonsense are so emotionally unstable that they can’t even compose themselves on a public forum. They resort to coercion and deception quite uniformly, and they bully people until they back down.

    Including LET forum moderators.

If you want a bunch of emotional basket cases managing your servers, then go ahead and hire these guys. Maybe if they have an outage you can spend the rest of the night being called a Nazi for taking issue with it, and then they can ban you from the ticketing system if you ask for an ETA.

This is the single most pathetic display I have seen on this website, and I am sure you will top it in due course.

I agree with that guy though, why involve your sexuality with the company brand.
I have met queer people before, they are open to anything… literally anything. Their minds are also easily swayed.

If a trouble customer goes in and request something that will affect everyone else on the servers. What do we do? We will lose some stuff? maybe? maybe not? Legal problems? Probably?

If host didn’t say they are all queer, they are less likely to be attacked by those types of people. Anti queer people will just cause issue’s

Stay away from this host, if you want to stay away from the problems are can or will occur.

        >why involve your sexuality with the company brand.
Sexuality isn’t involved in the brand, read the blog again, Inclusivity is involved, lots of companies use it for marketing. Its nothing new and nothing to be so offended by.

        >I have met queer people before, they are open to anything… literally anything.
I have met Thoes before, They are all open to sucking a big fat cock.

        >Their minds are also easily swayed.
        Lie.

        >If a trouble customer goes in and request something that will affect everyone else on the servers. What do we do? We will lose some stuff? maybe? maybe not? Legal problems? Probably?
What does this even mean lmao? Is this filler text or just strawman?
If a trouble customer goes in and requests something that will affect everyone else on the server, we do not do anything. The admins will handle it and deny the request, The people running this are Red Hat Certified Engineers, I am sure they are capable of doing server administration (Don’t hold me to it, this is what they claim, I do not know if they’ll deadpool after 3 months (same as most of the new hosts, their inclusivity or sexuality isn’t relevant to deadpooling)).

I am not sure what you are trying to convey with this sentence. Are you trying to say that because they are queer they’ll just randomly agree with a customers demand to throw the whole server in fire? That’s simply a foolish statement.

Its similar to me saying, you are ready to give me a blowjob because the theos ive met are all ready to give me a blowjob.

        >If host didn’t say they are all queer, they are less likely to be attacked by those types of people. Anti queer people will just cause issue’s
So they shouldnt say they are inclusive? Do you think Americans should surrender their American identity because the taliban will “cause issues”? Sounds foolish imho.

        >Stay away from this host, if you want to stay away from the problems are can or will occur.
Stay away from theo if you dont want him to randomly try and suck your penis

        ———————————————–
That being said, this is still a 6 month old company, if someone is thinking of using them for anything important, DONT!
This is company is similar to any 6 month old company in the hosting industry, they can vanish any minute, if you think their inclusivity is something that will give you positive or negative effect as a customer, you are wrong.
