    nice 11.11 offers

    October 24, 2021 @ 12:12 am | Reply
    • Hi James — glad you find value in our offers; we too are excited to have released these new promotions.

We’ve previously sold out every location and multiple product lines, so having replenished inventory to help those eager to expand and or onboard new customers is amazing. The level of service we provide, along with performance can’t be beaten.

good value but nothing special compared to their other offers

    October 24, 2021 @ 9:24 am | Reply
    • Hi Raj — I totally agree, there’s tons of value packed into these latest deals, the flexibility of choosing which location to deploy it, to the healthy resources at unbeatable prices all the way to the level of service and support we provide.

As for the comparison between past offers, we believe these deals are great. We aren’t always interested in going lower and lower with our promotions (when it comes to resources/pricing) as our promotions are intended to be limited time, limited availability, and deals will always vary. It should also be said that today’s market is totally different from what it was a year ago when it comes to hardware pricing and availability.

You can count on RackNerd to deliver awesome pricing, awesome performance, and healthy resources :) If you by chance need something different than what is being promoted, please get in touch via e-mail dustin@racknerd.com and I’ll do my best.

Rack’s pretty good for me. I’m low activity tho in general since I mostly just use it for storage with no domain. However I am realizing their LA boxes (or rather my LA box) are slow to retrieve things from the internet.

I’m migrating to a different location and did apt-get and that was done in a flash. I generally use my server to download videos from YouTube to archive them. I haven’t tested that yet but I won’t be surprised cuz I tested a fee weeks ago from a diff machine and got the speeds I expected .

Other than that if your low drag like me it’s good stuff.

I think last year’s deal was a bit better, kinda disappointed that there are no European locations this time even though they have some now.

    October 24, 2021 @ 11:29 am | Reply
    • Hi TODO — We’ve had tons of success in selling out our promotions, including selling out all of our locations for both our Intel and AMD Ryzen product line.

Most recently (and with this promotion) we were able to successfully replenish inventory on our Intel KVM pure SSD product line by deploying ~40 physical servers across our various locations. We have more on the way, but as you can imagine trying to procure 320+ 2TB SSDs has been work / troubling with today’s supply and hardware pricing. The good news is that we’ve done it. Our deals will always fluctuate, and we will continue with our commitment to provide awesome service, healthy pricing with competitive pricing.

  10. Marc Flagg:

@Dustin: Looking at the TOS, most of it is pretty standard, but the part where Runescape is forbidden stands out.

Do you have any info about what is so problematic with Runescape?

    October 25, 2021 @ 12:54 am | Reply
    • Hi @Marc — Great question and observation! That particular mention in our TOS is a bit dated. In the past (years ago) we’ve noticed a trend of abuse from those running this particular application (Runescape) which caused performance degradation on a previous product line offering of ours, however today we do not offer that product line anymore – which is the reason why I say this particular mention in our TOS is a bit dated (and may no longer be applicable/relevant).

As we now offer KVM VPS, which provides awesome performance and great isolation capabilities between VM’s, we’ll be happy to re-explore this if this is an application you’re looking to run. I’ll have our team also review this internally, and update our TOS if/as necessary.

  11. Jason:

How differently are these VPSes compared to the normal one, in term of performance. For example, 2GB would normally cost $20/month, but here 2GB is $18/year.

    October 25, 2021 @ 9:40 am | Reply
    • I have 11 VPS’s with RackNerd, and to be honest, I have noticed no performance difference from the “regular priced” $5/mo/GB VPS’s I have with some other companies. I did have one machine with Racknerd that seemed to be on a crowded node and was giving poor disk access, so I asked for it to be moved and they did, and now it is very fast. All my others I have had no issues, and I have been a Racknerd customer for over a year now.
I use some of the machines for testing, and others for reasonably low volume production, with no issues.

Thank you so much for the input. I am in the process of moving all my sites to new host provider, but want to try them out first with a small site, it only has 4k daily users and 11k daily pageviews.

Based on my research, I narrowed it down to two providers, RackNerd and NexusBytes. Do you happen to have experience with NexusBytes? If so, how does it compare to RackNerd

        October 27, 2021 @ 1:02 pm | Reply
        • liberal_hnr:

From what I have seen and read, nexusbytes is a smaller host run by one man and the owner doesn’t seem to be interested in the business anymore. Reviews show that the business is being neglected, and customers are not getting a hold of support. https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1859483 I considered them a few months ago but I’m glad I didn’t.

Out of those two I would definately say Racknerd would be the best choice, I have one VPS with them for 7 months now and going good.

          • I’ve read here on LET that Jay is going through some tough times, including health. What we can say and know is that Jay/Nexusbytes puts his customers first, and takes great pride in his business. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery to both his operation and healthy.

Been a customer of both. Currently with RackNerd and have had a trouble-free experience with RackNerd. I prefer RackNerd.

At NexusBytes certain tasks required support tickets and I found an issue with the setup(an AMD CPU bug detailed here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/10/how-a-months-old-amd-microcode-bug-destroyed-my-weekend/) which they fixed in a few days.

If the price is nearly the same, RackNerd is my choice.

Here is a good article on KVM (vs non-KVM) VPS https://lowendbox.com/blog/what-is-a-kvm-vps-the-technology-explained/. Basically, the emulation happens at a different layer. This means you control the kernel you run with KVM. This usually comes up when Docker and other container tech is involved or if you want to stay on top of security updates with the latest kernels.

Is rDNS enabled on these ? Last time i bought vps from you in the promo it said you allow rdns but when i got the vps i couldnt enable it.

    October 25, 2021 @ 3:39 pm | Reply
    • Adam Chasen:

I can confirm rDNS is working for the 11.11 promo from last year. You do have to use the “Control Panel” (https://nerdvm.racknerd.com) which is different than “Manage Product” (https://my.racknerd.com).

It is under “Network” tab at the bottom.

      October 29, 2021 @ 8:31 am | Reply
      • I think it depends on the location whether rDNS works from the control panel or not. If it doesn’t work you may be able to open a ticket and have them do it manually.

        October 29, 2021 @ 9:36 am | Reply
        • Ralf:

For me, rDNS didn’t work in the control panel, so I raised a support ticket. They did the rDNS manually and closed the ticket within 3 minutes of opening it, so I was very impressed with that service.

          November 8, 2021 @ 5:34 pm | Reply
          • This is also my case. I must open a ticket and they will set rDNS manuallly. It only takes about one day.

            November 9, 2021 @ 10:43 pm | Reply
    • Hi Justin! Great question.
rDNS is enabled – though at times customers find that it’s not an option within the control panel, and the reason behind this is due to the large amount of IPv4 under our umbrella which are not from a /24 CIDR block — so rDNS is not delegated to these smaller ranges. In these rare cases, all that is needed is a support ticket with the desired rDNS and our team will handle this right away.

We’ve replenished and sold out Ryzen just as fast, it’s been tough obtaining the hardware in today’s market (everyone is experiencing this) pricing has shot through the roof, though we’ve managed to obtain hardware and provide the same rates as many are accustomed to.

Right now we are tight on hardware, but it is a goal of ours to replenish as fast as possible. Feel free to reach out to me dustin@racknerd.com with the plan you’re interested in and I’ll be sure to let you know once we have stock :)
