LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

RackVM - £2.20 128MB Xen VPS in UK Exclusive Offer

Updated Sept 2010. Yes, RackVM is in deadpool. Servers died by end of August and the website no longer resolves by early September. FAIL.

RackVM Ben from RackVM emailed me about their exclusive offer for LowEndBox readers. Use coupon code LOWENDBOX-May to get 45% recurring discount for their OpenVZ Xen virtual servers. That means their lowest package is now just £2.20/month (USD$3.25). This offer is available for the whole of May, and you get

  • 128MB memory/256MB swap
  • 10GB storage
  • 100GB/month data transfer
  • Xen/SolusVM

Servers are located in Kent Science Park Data Centre in UK. Thanks Ben!

Interestingly their home page slide looks extremely similar to UK2’s VPS.net home page slide, where you can drag and adjust resources before ordering… Except ordering does not really work, and you still have to pick the right plan afterwards.

OpenVZ or Xen? For just one month or for life time?

  2. It says “Xen” on the website, and it’s a recurring discount.

I just ordered one, interesting, the product pages says £4/month, but when i processed to the order page, the price changed to £2.58/month, and after using the oupon code, it’s only £1.42/month. The setup is instant and now activated.

RackVM has stolen vps.net copyrighted material.
I would advise anyone to think twice before ordering…

Why has no one else mentioned this?

  12. RackVM and its staff has not stolen anything just to clear this up or I guess it depends how one wants to look at it. The site was designed by Payton Designs. I have just this moment contacted him to get something else drawn up for the front page. Either way we shall get this problem ironed out in due course.

  13. Just to clear this issue up we’ve now removed the slide navigation and images from the server.

Wont be the first time any of us have seen work stolen by Payton……

  15. Yes I must say i’m quite miffed about it, I looked at the script for the slider when the site was coded and noticed it was open source, in terms of the code but apart from that we knew no different.

  16. Just to add, it’s not copyright to VPS.net ? They actually said themselves it’s an open-source thing and not designed by them what they use on their website.

Payton does a lot of work that is stolen, You should check out some of the threads about him on WHT, He’s constantly stealing peoples content, There was also a thread about where he was modifying FREE templates and then selling them for 300-400$.

It’s not in anyone’s best interest to get a design that his designed by Payton your not going to get your moneys worth and that’s a fact. :D

  18. Yeah I’ve read a fair bit over the course of today. We even had to wait for 3 months for the site too, quite shocking with the amount we paid but did get a parital refund.

Just a note to everyone who may want to order. – We have received a brilliant response from this offer which has required us to deploy more servers. If there is a slight delay with your order please don’t panic we do apologise however some orders may be on hold while we finishing the setup of more nodes, all pending orders will be setup at 1am GMT. I shall come back here when they are up just to let everyone know orders are on auto piolet again :) Many thanks for every one that has placed an order so far!

    Great,
I was looking for a low end vps to use as secundairy dns for a colocated solution.
First had a look at 123systems, but they only had higher end vps’s available at the moment, so after a bit of surfing i ran into rackvm on this site.

Ordered, payed, and available inside of 10 minutes, so far i’m very impressed :-)

Could someone btw confirm if rackvm is using utc for the HW/host clock ?
Since it seems that when i apply the correct timezone settings, i end up with a 1hour overshoot, as if the hwtime is already set to uk local time (utc +1 right now) which causes CET timezone to add another 2 hours instead of one.

    Rgrds, Kris

    May 14, 2010 @ 6:06 pm | Reply
  28. Use Ntpd if your getting an 1 hour overshoot.

    May 14, 2010 @ 6:26 pm | Reply
  29. Kris:

Ntp seems to be unable to correct the difference (it does show the offset, but change does not persist), and setting the date manually with date –set results in an immediate changeback to the previous time.

anyway, “echo “xen.independent_wallclock=1″ >> /etc/sysctl.conf” , followed by a reboot seems to fix both the timeshift and the ntp/dateset issues.

Thanks for the effort though Andrew.

Avg speed from the link that Ben provided is around 1900KB/s from my home connection, and 8.54M/s from a colo server in Germany. So speed is very OK imho.
Opened a support ticket for a rdns entry saturday, got a response (real one, automated does not count) within half an hour.

So far i can recommend rackvm… good service and decent speed. offcourse future will have to tell if they will remain so efficient :)

    Just some silly questions…

if I don’t have a DNS name, can I enter whatever I want for hostname, ns etc?
What happens if I break the box so I can’t login?
I assume you get a static public IP?

    :)

    Ta!

  40. Hi Al, you can enter what ever you like in the hostname and ns. All VPS Servers are provided with 1 Public IP Address which is static. Hope this helps :)

Just a note. We have some low end Windows 2003 Servers if any one maybe interested please raise a ticket and we will be more than happy to issue more details specs are a 256MB Memory 10GB Space and 200GB Bandwidth for £10.00/mo.

  46. @bekanosky — They have removed the slider as the 3rd party designer quite possibly copied it from VPS.net.
