SemoWeb - $3 256MB OpenVZ Restocked in Dallas + Free Pens

SemoWeb Last offer from SemoWeb has been quite a success. Good pricing, speedy server and very responsive support — well done Dustin! He has informed me that they have brought back in more stock, and the same offer as last time. $3/month will get you:

  • 256MB guaranteed/768MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 150GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Sign up link. If you pay for the whole year it would be $30/year. They are also offering 2x free SemoWeb pen if you open a ticket with them (need to make sure your address on file is correct so they can post the pens to you). Servers with Limestone Networks in Dallas TX (test IP: 64.31.44.130).

  1. Nice, who would need a pen? :P

  2. I could always use an extra pen.

Looking at their VPS plans, it appears you can get a better setup based in Florida than the offered plan in Texas for just a little more money. While the $3 a month plan offers 15 gigs of hard drive space and 150 gigs of transfer, their $3.50 place doubles that with 30 gigs of space and 300 gigs of transfer.

    Or am I misreading things?

Only major problem I see with their website, beside the huge headers on nearly every single page that forces down the content past a Page Down, is their MB to GB converter appears not to be working:

    • Hello,

Actually this plan was strictly intended for LEB so you will not see it on our site as of yet :)

Our VPS page really does need an status box of which location vps are being provisioned in as of now we have restocked Dallas and we have all orders being place in Dallas due to the huge demand.

As for the plan you get less bandwidth and disk space on the promotion we offer here but a lot more burst for ram and 50 cents less. Clients can always upgrade and downgrade as needed.

The MB-GB page does work in internet explore just not in Firefox that I’m aware I also need to get that taken care of but to be honest it hasn’t been a priority as we been focusing more on our brand but will do .

      @ LEB Admin thanks!

        • It actually worked in all browsers until our new design. :-p I will make sure it gets coded for cross browser compatibility.

I’m going to recommend Semoweb too. I’ve been running the first node of our DNS network on it, without much problem. Speeds are great, disk IO is great. I’m on one of the Florida nodes.

Only issues i’ve encountered are a severely out of date kernel, and intermittent issues where the VPS itself is mysteriously set to “off”.

Actually, I like their 512MB plan but I don’t need all that BW nor storage. If they can get a LEB offer for 512MB with less of those and a lower price I would be all over it. I’m not sure about the others but I come to LEB to see if I can get some low price VPS to play around with and BW and storage is not as important as RAM to me.

    • Hello,

Actually I was away from this computer as I updated LEB so my other comment is still awaiting moderation we also updated both Twitter and Announcements about the issues that happened with Slave 11 it was facing over heating issues and required emergency attention thus we had to bring the server offline to review and replace hardware as needed the Thermal Paste was replaced and the temp was verified to be 30 C so we were on the right track and brought there server back online.

Anyhow I would like to apologize to everyone on Slave 11 and had to witness the downtime while we investigated the root cause and fix accordingly.

      Servers back online!

      All the best,

      Dustin

The term is used in so many ways in the IT world that is the last thing I think of when I see that term. I see that is the first thing that comes to your mind though.

The only other time I’ve seen it used in IT is with backup drives or servers. I don;t recall any other time seeing it but I may have missed it.

SolusVm may need to come up with a better name.

I have been a client of semoweb for a while and never had major issues with them, service is overall excellent. I have a major feeling that you work for a competitor as you failed to provide some sort of proof to the semoweb rep. They have been more than responsive here on LEB even though they don’t have to be, thats something you dont see much from hosts.

Not that I wouldn’t buy, but all my other VPS’s were valid SSLs. I’d like to keep it that way :).

More of a personal preference, but sending blank credit card text to a provider, can’t imagine who would want a hold of that lol.

This result after I add 512MB more RAM.. and still very bad disk IO..
Have open a ticket (201026), still no increase on disk io performance…

      • I think RAM generally doesn’t have a relation with I/O =P

          Hello,

Yes, I know, the RAM wouldn’t effect on disk io.. But my purposes to add more buffer on MySQL to help the process become faster..
But still no luck… very very bad disk io.. :(

Ok, found my VPS info hidden in one of my e-mails. Took about 2-3 minutes to connect to my vps. As soon as I started typing “root” I got disconnected for waiting too long. This happened every time. This has to be the slowest VPS node I have ever been on, seriously. Requested a refund.

  42. @ William & @Wira,

Could we possibly offer you a spot on a different node?

Slave 11 and Slave 12 having been an unfortunate pain we are working on getting everything resolved and as of now all orders have not been placed on either due to the issues they have been facing.

We are always looking to improve and offer the best possible service we can so let us know what we can do to make things right for you as we work away on these 2 slaves.

        You ticket system ?
When i ask for a upgrade you response me in 6hours .
however after i paid for the upgrade invoice , you just close my upgrade request.I open a new ticket, and you only response me “please reply the old ticket” Then after i reply the old ticket,I have never hear from you any longer.
        How can this happen?
        This is you ticket system.
semoweb such a bad service provider.

Very nice spam. Besides the fact that link is dead long time ago, the owner might not even be hosting with you since the domain is behind cloudflare. But nice spam indeed to necro reply on dead comments.
