So Many Cheap Dedicated Servers On Sale At Low End Talk Right Now!

Hello from Sonora! ๐Ÿœ๏ธ

One important part of the Low End Experience is cheap dedicated servers! Dedicated servers, often called “dedis” have been one of the main interests here on the Low End.

During recent years, and following many other Low Enders, I have rented dedis from OVH’s Kimsufi and SoYouStart brands. Then came several great deals from Hetzner. Last year, for the first time, I bought a dedicated server for only $30.00, which is definitely super cheap. This owned server is my beautiful antique, Darkstar, happily colocated with Level One Servers. Yesterday I started on yet another server, this one inside Hurricane Electric at their Fremont 2 Data Center.

Using a cheap dedi has several advantages. The main advantage is that a dedi gives you access to the bare metal and everything running on the server. This is unlike a Virtual Private Server (“VPS”) in which, usually, you do not get to see much of what’s running outside of your VPS. In other words, with a dedi, you get the entire CPU, disk I/O, and bandwidth of the server’s internet connection instead of having to share all these with other VPSes.

Of course, there is a cost to the advantages of dedicated. That’s where VPSes come in. These days it’s possible to get the same or better or even much better average level of performance from a VPS. And get that increased performance for less money than it costs to colocate an antique dedi. Thus, everyone has to make their own decision about what is best for their projects.

Low End Talk and Low End Box both offer a wide variety of VPS and dedicated servers. After a few years of watching especially the dedi offers, it seemed to me that the last week or two has brought an unusually large harvest of low hanging dedi fruit. I haven’t counted the offers. I certainly haven’t done any statistical analysis. But, to me, it seems that there are a lot of dedi offers on Low End Talk right now. Let’s take a look at some of the offers.

Cheap Dedicated Server Offers

Please check the original ads to make sure I didn’t make a mistake transcribing. There are additional offers in many of the ads, so please check. Note that there might be additional requirements, such as discount coupon codes, order number posting, etc. Some offers might be out of stock. Please don’t get your hopes up too high!

Reprise Hosting

@BrainHarrison has been repeatedly posting tempting offers lately. Here’s an offer from Brian’s latest thread.

  • CPU: Xeon L5640
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3
  • Disk: 1TB HDD or 240GB SSD plus FREE secondary 1TB HDD
  • Bandwidth: 20 TB @ 1 Gbps
  • IPs: 2 useable IPv4
  • Location: Seattle, WA USA
  • Price: $27.97/month

The cheap price for this server blew me away! Plus, there are several additional servers with different CPUs advertised for not much more. Also, Brian has been doing a commendable job monitoring his ad threads and responding to questions.

Spin Servers

@SpinServers has a 256 GB deal in San Jose for only $99.00/month. The deal includes dual E5 CPUs and SSD RAID 1. It would be a great idea to take a look at the Spin Servers ad thread over at LET.

  • CPU: Dual E5-2630L v3
  • RAM: 256 GB DDR4
  • Disk: 2 x 1.6 TB SSD RAID-1
  • Bandwidth: Not listed.
  • IPs: Not Listed
  • Location: San Jose, CA USA
  • Price: $99.00/month

Maybe the appropriate RAM for this CPU would be DDR3 instead of DDR4. It may be that the connection is 10G and the bandwidth might be 10 TB, since those numbers are listed in the comments for a different CPU. Spin Servers has been active in the comments of their ad thread.

DediRock

@DediRock has its first LET offer, and it’s a good one! Several servers, including:

  • CPU: Dual E5-2620v2
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • Disk: 250 GB SSD
  • Bandwidth: 15 TB @ 1 Gbps
  • IPs: 3 x IPv4
  • Location: Not listed.
  • Price: $67.00/month

@DediRock has been active in their thread’s comment section. They seem to have several locations within the US.

Reliable Site

No LET server deal check would be complete without something from @MrRadic! Here’s a really great deal mentioned in the comments of one of Radic’s ad threads.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • Disk: 2 x 512 GB NVMe
  • Bandwidth: Not listed.
  • IPs: Not listed.
  • Location: Not listed.
  • Price: $69.00/month

Low End Box published a really great interview with Radic. Definitely worth reading to learn about Radic’s unique approach to the server business.
