  1. In your lowendbox small you have “1x Intel E5 v3 CPU”, is this mean only one core?

    Thanks

    • I think it’s 1 shared core

      March 12, 2016 @ 12:55 pm | Reply
    • Matt Connor:

Yes, that means the LEB Small server has 1 core and the LEB Large server has 4 cores.

For how long will the price stay as written in here? I mean a lot of these offers are for only first month (or 2). And the Small compared to your “Personal Mu” seems to be better, yet $17 cheaper.

    March 14, 2016 @ 2:47 pm | Reply
    • Matt Connor:

Price stays the same for the lifetime of the server, so if you order today and keep the server active for 2 years (never miss a payment etc) then the pricing stays exactly the same for that server and never changes.

    • Matt Connor:

Yes that’s absolutely fine! As long as it follows our terms of services you should be good (doesn’t host illegal files, doesn’t cause performance issues for other clients, etc).

Is it possible to run CoreOS (or something else that’ll run Docker properly) on these boxes? Not familiar enough with OpenVZ’s behavior to know off the top of my head…been in KVM land of late.

    • Matt Connor:

I wish, but unfortunately not, since OpenVZ is a containerized virtualization system itself, which is partly how we’re able to offer such high performance (since there’s much less overhead). There are hacks to make docker work, but our first priority is to ensure a high quality and stable environment.

    March 19, 2016 @ 7:24 am | Reply
    • Matt Connor:

Hi there, we don’t have swap on these servers, and if we added vswap it would simply be from the host server’s actual RAM. If you need swap, we can subtract it from your current RAM (some applications like MariaDB complain if they don’t have it). I’ll see if we can get serverbear benchmarks added.

    March 19, 2016 @ 2:00 pm | Reply
    • Matt Connor:

Yes, you can reinstall to a new OS without any price changes. You can also upgrade to a larger plan (within our billing system) that increases pricing linearly (8GB RAM for $96/yr or $13.99/mo, etc). Yes, when we get IPv6 it can be added later (there’s no ETA though, lots of testing needs to be completed first).

      March 19, 2016 @ 6:51 pm | Reply
      • Matt Connor:

I also forgot to mention that upgrades are “live” meaning there’s no downtime. All the resources (RAM, storage, bandwidth) are increased automatically when the invoice is paid. The only thing that would require a reboot is if there are more cores added.

  16. I just wanted to write about experience with ssdnodes, I purchased LEB large about week ago and have been testing and just moved remote desktop support application to production. I’m extremely happy with ssdnodes coming from DigitalOcean, VPS is extremely fast and reliable, I tested upload speeds and it clocked about 800 Mbps down and 300 up… pretty fast if you ask me.

Matt has been amazing to work with and although we had some issues with the application he was there to assist and on my request added new image in the image selection area… I bought whole year right away and if it stays like this I’ll be @ ssdnodes for a while.

Hi there, it doesn’t come with VNC server, but you can easily install a GUI and VNC server using yum or apt-get (depending on the Linux distribution you install). Of course, for better security, we recommend using a firewall to lock down the ports and using SSH tunneling to access it, but you won’t have any access restrictions either way.

How much vswap is included in the LEG Large? Are additional IPv4s available if justified? You’re suspiciously lower than ramnode. What has the farms uptime been in the past 5 years? How much downtime has occurred? You guarantee 100% uptime, which is impossible to guarantee. How do you issue credits? What is the minimum downtime required for credits? Thanks~!

  40. Russ Kay:

I am looking at this versus ramnode, and noticed you are suspiciously cheaper. Are you overselling? What has been your uptime for the past 5 years? What is the average uptime during the past 5 years? I noticed you claim to provide 100% Uptime SLA. This is an impossible guarantee. Since there will be downtime, how do you credit accounts? Is there a minimal amount of downtime required and if so, what is it? Will you provide more IPv4 addresses with justification? Thanks.

    April 18, 2016 @ 9:57 am | Reply
    • Matt Connor:

      Hi Russ,

Thank you for reaching out, and for your great questions. Our minimum uptime has been 99.99% over the past 5 years across all services, and 99.999% across our enterprise services. When we first started out we were using a single provider (IBM SoftLayer) and we used the same SLA rules that they had, which was 30 minutes of downtime (equivalent to 3 nines). Our TOS states 30 minutes, but in practice we’ve given out credits for much less. The SLA credit schedule is listed in our TOS. We do provide additional IPv4 addresses, depending on justification.

We don’t have Ubuntu 16.04 available yet, it’s being tested right now in our lab environment and will be available once we confirm it’s stable, reliable, and performant on our platform. We err on the side of reliability because we don’t want to release something that causes issues with clients, so once those are confirmed we’ll release it in production.

perfect service, we run on them (LEB instance) 2 servers for non-company services and must say… work perfectly. no downtimes, cheap price, works almost without any human (if you know how to properly setup server).

    Hello Matt,
I see vps (Large plan ) .its looks plan for me. I would like to ask about your comment comment above where you mentioned about performance. Please describe what do you mean by performance? In case of high load some times it will be slow down my website performance. How it can affect other clint ? Is it (large plan) shared hosting? Please suggest.

Some notes on commenting on LowEndBox:

  • Do not use LowEndBox for support issues. Go to your hosting provider and issue a ticket there. Coming here saying "my VPS is down, what do I do?!" will only have your comments removed.
