Okay. Let’s take a step back from the race to the bottom and look at this low end but that that cheap VPS package from The Simple Host. Nathan wrote to me to give LowEndBox readers some exclusive discount — using promo code LEB-V1-IX28H0 to get 40% off recurring discount on their VPS1 OpenVZ package. So the cost at the end is £4.20/month (USD$6.60/month) for the following package:
- 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
- 5GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Servers will be with datasock in France, rather than in Germany like their previous offer (as per their announcement here). UK based operation since June 2008.
This seems to be quite an expensive offer with so few resources comparing to what we had posted in the last few months. Or HostRail’s deal — cheapness seems to be about the only sure way to generate much interest here and these days $7 for a 128MB VPS is no longer considered cheap. It is still low end nevertheless. And it might actually have a better service as the pricing is actually profitable to the owners (but again, this cannot be verified as you can still be an expensive overseller with no service).
Anyway. 128MB and 50GB/month — probably only good enough to run a mostly-text blog site like this one.

Thanks. I’m a little confused though, is it in France or Germany?
Even looking at the DataDock website, it defaults to German, and from the contact details, it seems to be in Germany.
Has LEA got the wrong end of the stick or am I missing something? :)
Yes, whois and a traceroute shows Germany.
It is a German company, however the DC is located in Strasbourg. You can read more here: http://www.datadock.eu/en/lage.php
什么是你们优惠?我认为这并不是优化价,交通非常少.
please use English! here is not China
What’s the problem? A kind of racysm?
Use a translator, it says
“What is your offer? I think that this is not the optimal price, the traffic is very small.”
It’s an English-language site. It’s only fair to expect people to converse in English here. We shouldn’t have to use translators. Personally I’d ignore any posts that aren’t in English. Online translators often get translations completely wrong anyway…
Why do people always jump directly to racism? Couldn’t the preference just be for convenience’s sake?
The people in the world, don’t speak English, not me…
My main language is spanish. We must be open to listen all the people in the World. If waimao can’t write in english, we must understand.
I know the translators aren’t perfect, and will not be, but they are a tool to communicate with others.
And, well, if you ignore the comments/posts that aren’t in English, why you are answering to this buddy?
End of this conversation.
The fact remains that this is an English-language website. I don’t post on Spanish/Chinese/Russian/etc sites in English. It’d be arrogant to expect them to go to the trouble of translating it. If I want to participate in a German forum, I post in German.
If waimao can’t write in english, he should translate it using these tools and post the translated version here.
End of the conversation? Get real.
So waimao can read English but can’t write in English? That’s hard to believe.
As a Chinese my self, I can hardly understand what do you mean. (Sounds like this is to be translated by a translation robot too, huh?)
What is your special discount? I think this is not optimal price, the traffic is very few.
