LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

UltraVPS - €2/month 512MB and €3/month 1GB Xen VPS in Düsseldorf, Germany

UltraVPS-High-Performance-SSD-based-Virtual-Servers 2014-03-08 06-36-31We’re back with a new offer that has not been sent in, but that we’re posting on our own initiative! This time, it takes us to Germany, where UltraVPS offer servers in the LowEnd price-range that are located in Düsseldorf. UltraVPS is owned by Bradler & Krantz GmbH Co KG, better know as ‘providerdienste.de’ in the community, whom have been in the hosting industry since 1999! These offers are hosted on servers with Intel CPUs and pack 12 cores per server, 10k RPM drives in RAID10, and 1Gbps network connectivity. They have their own IP ranges. I’d say, give them a shot and let us know what you think about these servers!

512MB Xen-PV

  • 512MB RAM
  • 1 CPU Core
  • 15GB disk space
  • 500GB bandwidth
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4 address
  • 20x IPv6 address
  • Xen-PV/SolusVM
  • €2 | $2.77/month
  • Order here
1GB Xen-PV

  • 1GB RAM
  • 1 CPU Core
  • 30GB disk space
  • 1000GB bandwidth
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4 address
  • 20x IPv6 address
  • Xen-PV/SolusVM
  • €3 | $4.16/month
  • Order here

These prices include 19% VAT, which will be deducted if you are not located in the EU or if you have a valid VAT ID!

UltraVPS uses a custom ordering system, so I can’t find out which payment methods are accepted without ordering. If someone gives this a shot, let me know how you can pay! Additional IP pricing, etc. is not listed on the website (again, maybe after ordering). They seem to support some basic operating systems (CentOS 5,6, Debian 6,7, Ubuntu 12.04) and there may be more inside SolusVM. Be sure to read their Terms of Service before you order! On a side note, this is one of the first provider homepages I’m taking a screenshot of in a long time that doesn’t make my Ghostery bubble appear!

Network Information

I have not been able to find any test IPs, but I did find some network information. These are the upstream providers for UltraVPS:

  • 10 Gbit/s Level3
  • 10 Gbit/s Cogent
  • 1 Gbit/s Lambdanet

And these are their peerings:

  • 10 Gbit/s AMS-IX
  • 1 Gbit/s ECIX Düsseldorf

I’d say that’s pretty decent!

As a final note, I would like to thank community member DomainBop for pointing out UltraVPS to me!

Used several VPSes from them for a year, amazing stability, solid performance and low price for 512MB Xen; good support too. UltraVPS looks like it’s pretty much the same superb service but with a brushed-up website and a ‘modernized’ brand. So you can’t go wrong with choosing them. :)

No AUP, no payment details… how are people supposed to pay a VPS when it’s not clear what it can be used for?

    Is bittorrent allowed? VPN? Minecraft?

“amazing stability, solid performance and low price for 512MB Xen”

That about sums it up. I’ve had an UltraVPS 2GB Xen plan (€5.04 VAT excl/€6 VAT incl) for 43 days and my Observium logs are showing 100% network and server uptime (Monitor.us is also showing 100% uptime during that span). The openvz SSDVPS I have from their other brand ProviderService has been up since I bought it last June and I haven’t had to contact support yet.

“which payment methods are accepted without ordering”

They accept PayPal and credit cards via PayPal guest checkout (no PayPal account required). I believe that bank transfers
(for German residents) are also an option.

“They seem to support some basic operating systems ”
    CentOS 5 and 6 (32 bit and 64 bit)
    Debian 6 and 7 (32 bit and 64 bit)
    Fedora 17 (32 bit) and Fedora 20 (64 bit)
    Gentoo 2014.01 64 bit
    Scientific Linux 6.2 64 bit
    Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit and 64 bit)

No, obviously you don’t understand how a contract works.

a 6 month contract means you need to stay with them for 6 months, not pay them in 6 month terms.

After placing an order for the 512MB package, I received an email with this at the bottom:

    > Contract term: 6 months

WTF? No where on here or their website does it say this for 6 months. What a bunch of BS!

    March 8, 2014 @ 11:08 pm | Reply
    • DomainBop:

It’s stated on their website on the plans page: “contract term 6 months” for the 2 and 3 euros plans: https://www.ultravps.eu/en/plans/

It’s also in their terms of service (section 7, payments): the term for plans under 5 euros monthly is 6 months / term for under 25 euros monthly is 3 months / term for over 25 euros monthly is 1 month.

It’s always a good idea to actually read the terms of service rather than just clicking the “I agree to the terms of service” checkbox on the order page without reading the TOS

      March 8, 2014 @ 11:21 pm | Reply
      • Nick:

So everyone is just automatically supposed to know that you have to pay for 6 months instead of just 1? By just looking at the order page and this page, there’s no way you can tell if its for 6 months, unless, you click “I agree to the terms of service” and then see that the contract term is for 6 months.

        • Hard to consider:

I have to agree this is pretty well buried inside the TOS, they should fix that. One reason why EULAs and such are nowadays often considered non-binding from customer protection perspective.

Also, the TOS is translated from German, and I personally found the sentences hard to understand.

thanks for your feedback. We have added the contract term and billing cycle to the order form.

        • DanielM:

          you shouldnt have to.

a contract means stay with them this amount of time. not an upfront payment.

  13. Hi!

Thanks for discussing our services. I’ll try to give some short answers to the questions above:

    – IRC: allowed, but no bots please.
    – VPN: allowed
    – Torrents: allowed as long as the usage doesn’t violate German law.
    – Minecraft, Gameservers: allowed
    – Contract terms (details shown here https://www.ultravps.eu/en/plans/):
    UltraXEN15 (512MB) and UltraXEN30 (1GB): 6 months, UltraXen50 (2GB): 3 months, UltraXen75 (4GB): 1 month

We accept PayPal for the first payment. The VPS will be created automatically with the payment. All following invoices can be paid by PayPal, bank transfers or SEPA direct debit (EU).

The first payment will be for one contract period. The second invoice will include a partial month as we charge on a calendar month (January, February etc.) basis. So there might me some days added to have the following billing period start on the 1st of a month.

Cancellations are handled via email; just drop us an email if you don’t wont to renew again. Otherwise the service will renew automatically.

For all the people not able to read properly, the 6 months contract length is stated on the main VPS offers page. But i guess moaners gonna moan. And yes, you have to pay for 6 months straight.

The “order now” links above doesn’t lead to the main VPS offers page you talk about. The 6 months contract length can be found in the “small prints” (TOS), but I don’t think it is enough.

Bad contract, 6 months and about 95% uptime. Do not recommend.

    • Well, if you do not cancel your contract, we will charge the service. How should we know that you do not use the service?

But given our very low prices, it seems hard to believe, that you had to oay 300 EUR. Our uptime is also FAR beyond 95%. It seems that you are not reporting a real user experience but try to badmouth our service.

On my blog I’ve posted a quick review with HDD and network benchmarks: https://szibele.com/ultravps-cheap-vps-hosting/ . I can’t recommend them enough. Their VPS manager BK Manager v2 is also great, way better than some other managers that I have used in the past.
