LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

urgentVPS - €49.50/Year 384MB Virtuozzo VPS in Germany

urgentVPS Bret from urgentVPS passed me new promos after their previous Black Friday offer has expired. Now the same package is available for €49.50/Year when you use coupon code “LEB-4995” (~USD$5.37/month). Here is direct sign up link.

  • 384MB memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 250GB/month data transfer
  • 3 IP addresses
  • Virtuozzo

Data center in Frankfurt Germany. 3 IPv4 addresses seem to be very generous, and I don’t know whether any IPv6 is included. Not as cheap as their Black Friday offer though, and moreover you need to pay a year in advance. urgentVPS has been around for 2 years now, had quite a few hiccups early last year, and hopefully the system regained stability later on. It’s also one of few providers that use Virtuozzo.

  2. Do you offer native ipv6 addresses?

    • Hi Dirk,

Unfortunately at the moment this is not something that we can provide to our containers. We are, however actively working with our datacenter / software providers to see what sort of solution we can come up with in the near future since IPv6 is going to be a big part of the hosting industry very soon!

    • Hi Sean,

I’m sorry that you feel this way, could I get an e-mail that was attached to your account so I can look into any issues? We haven’t experienced any server downtime (planned or non-planned) since we changed datacenter roughly 5 months ago so I’d like to chase up the reasoning behind your comments.

      Kind Regards,
      Bret

        • You can contact me via bret.weber[AT]urgentvps.com. It’s strange that your server is offline since all nodes are online and other containers are running just fine, you’re the first to report services being offline so I would hazard a guess at this being isolated to your container only. Anyhow, shoot off your e-mail and I’ll take a look into it.

          Kind Regards,
          Bret

        • Doesn’t urgentVPS provide you with a support portal? Posting “heh my VPS is down” here without backing on LowEndBox just makes you suspicious. Way too many competitors posting crap on this blog lately.

  5. @LowEndAdmin (and others who are interested)

Just to clarify, we do provide a full support portal / helpdesk that is monitored throughout the day along with the Parallels Power Panel for VPS management.

  6. Okay. Did an IP lookup and it appears that sean is posting comments from the same originate IP address as a StableLayer.eu representative, whom I guess would be a competitor here.

    Yuk.

    • This makes sense since we experienced no downtime and funnily enough I received no e-mail from him :-)

It’s disgusting that people in this day and age would still do something like that..

    • Inserting my suggestion for publishing the first three blocks portions (I forget what they’re called. I’m tired.) of the IP address with each comment. Or even a salted MD5 hash of the address so we can see who matches up with whom.

      • netmask? :P

Can you do a whois lookup with the md5? o_O Or what are you talking about :P

          probably something like this (CMIIW):

          echo 74.125.159.105 | md5sum -
          e149eb0e501744f379c6aa48924461bd -

So the provider could compare that md5sum to their own ip-md5 list, i don’t know if they want to bother with making such a list.. :P

          January 17, 2011 @ 5:18 am | Reply
        • Well, I think isn’t so much hard to create a list of all the ip’s with md5 applied. If the purpose of that is to hide the ip address, I think isn’t a good way:

There are 4,228,250,625 ip’s only, is like 135304020000 bytes (Ok, like 126 Gbytes of hashes xD) but IMO we can bruteforce that system easily, because we know the pattern of the ip’s.

Please post your /proc/user_beancounters, this must be a *requirement* for ALL Openvz offerings.
There is no point to buy and waste time with 384MB openvz if process limit is 32M or max socket connections limit is 200 or process limit is just 100!
Openvz let’s you put additional hidden restrictions and I see *MOST* openvz providers are happy to fool clients with them.

    • Hi Sezer,

We appreciate your concern, but we can assure that we do not limit the number of processes or connections like that, you may use all 384MB of your RAM that you pay for :-) Also, a small difference; we don’t use OpenVZ, we use Virtuozzo :-)

      Kind Regards,
      Bret

      • Sezer:

It says openvz in description. I think there are same restrictions on Virtuozzo as well so you may still post your limits.

        January 17, 2011 @ 1:16 am | Reply
        • It doesn’t say OpenVZ at all, it says virtuozzo in both the description and the tags of the post :-)

Funny; most OpenVZ providers I’ve seen have left the UBC limits at their (ludicrously high) default settings.

Care to name which providers set sensibly low, abuse-intolerant limits?

      January 17, 2011 @ 1:26 am | Reply
      • Sezer:

What are the limits when you rent a dedicated box? What is the point of extra hidden limits if you are already limited by memory, equal share of CPU and disk?

Openvz is not totally isolated virtualization like xen and vmware so they invented these limits but nobody posts those. Note that if you hit those limits, your application will fail SILENTLY so you may never realize those unless you check.

        January 17, 2011 @ 1:37 am | Reply
        • Snape:

The “extra” “hidden” limits are neither, and if you think they’re there just to screw you over, well… no.

The default limit for “numproc”, and that used at a lot of providers big and small, is 999999. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to envision a scenario where a limit just 1% of this (999 processes) is patently ridiculous, unfair, unjust, intolerable, and just downright wrong – keeping in mind that VPSes of any flavor are a *shared* environment and that OpenVZ’s disk- and CPU-sharing mechanisms suck like a black hole – and present the same in LEB or LET in two-thousand words or less. (Because English does not appear to be your first language, you will not be graded on spelling or grammar.)

I realize that that may sound like a specious straw-man argument, so if you don’t wish to tackle a theoretical exercise of that nature, then I invite you, alternatively, to describe the scenario under which 123Systems’ limits for a 128MB RAM VPS – notable highlights being 240 numproc, 360 numtcpsock, and 9312 numfile – the lowest I’ve seen among any provider here on LEB, I might add – would be reached in anything resembling real-world use, exactly how much emotional and mental anguish you anticipate such anguish would inflict upon you, and how many millions you’d like to sue for as a result.

  8. Well, we use Virtuozzo, not it’s free OpenVZ brother but as stated in the Wiki, it uses a different system (SLM) which is muchh better when it comes to this sort of thing. We don’t limit anything as said before, everything is there to be used should you need to use it :-) We’ll be releasing a smaller term in the next few days with just as great a promotion (if not better!) and we’ll hand it over to LEA should he choose to post it. If you want to check us out, then feel free to jump on with the future offers!
