Can you transfer an account between locations? e.g. Can I purchase a Chicago VPS now and then later move to a German one?

        • Yes; there’s a processing fee involved for the migration, which is currently $5.

Which kernel do OpenVZ servers have? What about IPv6?

    July 5, 2017 @ 11:57 am | Reply
    • VirMach_M:

      Hello,

We’re running the lastest Kernel version available for OpenVZ (albeit we’re not yet running OpenVZ 7).
We provide IPv6 in a few locations, such as Phoenix and Germany, though we haven’t been actively advertising it as a feature since the IPv6 network in these locations hasn’t been up to our service quality standards, we’ve had a few hiccups, so we do not yet consider it production ready.

Precisely why we haven’t been advertising IPv6. It still needs some work. We’re doing our best in rushing the Datacenter to get it to our standards. It hasn’t been easy but hopefully we should have it fully working in the coming months.

      Hi Oscar,

Feel free to open a ticket with us so our Billing Department can check this issue further.
Do explain what service you’re trying to order, be as much precise as possible, please.

I placed an order for the 6$ per year option but they are constantly ask me to prove who am I, in fact one of its supported guy called Matthew demanded me to submit an ID copy, here is his original words:

Please submit a photo of your ID in front of a piece of paper that has the word “Virmach” on it for verification purposes.

    General Support Agent

    • VirMach_M:

      Hello Shu,

That’s part of our fraud verification process, when the automated and manual verification occurs and fails to verify properly, we need to ask for proof of identity so we can approve your order.
As you can imagine, we receive many fraudulent orders that end-up in chargebacks, both in PayPal and Credit Cards (which is quite expensive for us), so we need to protect ourselves and ensure that the orders are legit.

This being said, we hope you understand why our Billing Department asks for a scan of your ID with the slip of paper saying VirMach. There are thousands of ID photos available in the Internet which makes it harder for us to properly confirm the identity sometimes.

Tip: This occurs quite often when the orders are submitted using fake details or a VPN/Proxy. Make sure to use your correct details and avoid using VPN/Proxy’s in order to avoid these situations and you should be fine.
If you need help sorting your order our Blling Department will be more than glad to help you further.

I was subjected to similarly ludicrous requirements, unfortunately the support staff don’t possess the technical capability to answer basic questions like “what are the IP addresses involved?” when they claim IP address differences between registration and payment and demand an explanation.

Unfortunately, if the signup process is this poorly managed and the support staff so hopelessly incompetent, I have no doubt their ability to run a VPS day-to-day is also equally poor. Even AlphaRacks do better than these guys, and their reputation is certainly less than stellar.

      • I do apologize for the bad experience. We separated our billing department from technical departments recently, so the billing department is not capable of providing in-depth explanations in certain situations. I have rectified this issue and hope you are happy with the resolution.

But, their both support and service are overall great.

    July 6, 2017 @ 5:41 pm | Reply
    • Thank you for the feedback. Just to clarify, these are our standard packages with support and more leniency.

These packages are eligible for IP changes and they’re performed fairly quickly. In addition, we usually give multiple warnings before suspensions on these packages and only charge the fee if the abuse is at an extreme level that negatively affects other customers and/or takes a significant portion of our time to handle.

As for live support, they cannot assist you with technical requests. We do not have live technical support. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

I just wanted to say here that I am very happy with the service of Virmach. The OpenVZ system works as expected. Re-installing a systems takes seconds, not minutes.

@VirMach: I wonder, when do you guys expect to have Debian 9.0 or 10.0 available on OpenVZ? Debian 8.0 will only get security updates till 2018, so I’m eager to upgrade to 9.0.

    July 17, 2017 @ 5:10 pm | Reply
    • Thank you for providing feedback on your experience with us.

I’ll check with the team and see what we can do about your request. As far as I know, Debian 9 is not yet officially supported/provided by OpenVZ as a pre-created template. At this moment we would recommend considering a KVM service, where we can attach any ISO for you.
