LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Virpus - $5 512MB OpenVZ VPS Exclusive Offer

Virpus Ken from Virpus emailed me to update me on their exclusive deals for the LowEndBox readers. They are now discounting $2/month for life for readers here, when you sign up with a promotion code LEB. That means their already-cheap U-Basic is now $5/month with the following specification:

  • 512MB guaranteed/2048MB burstable memory
  • 25GB storage
  • 1600GB/month or 5mbps unmetered bandwidth
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers are in Kansas City. Migration to SolusVM is definitely a good plus. I had used their service for 2 months — old Opteron hardware but overall it’s not bad.

I signed up for 6 Months with Virpus. My VPS has been down for a month now. Despite chasing several times, their technical support cannot seem to find my VPS. This is not satisfactory. Choose with caution.

  2. @Steve — thanks for sharing your experience. I have seen some negative reports from WHT forums, although first hand experience is that they are not bad. There are downtime and server-reboots, but nothing extensive (within the 2 months I’ve been with them). Or I could just be lucky :)

I did the same as Steve a couple of months ago. It was a nightmare. Benchmark scores were insanely low, connections consistently dropped, server crashed more than once, DirectAdmin (free w/ 6mo purchase) never worked, and every one of their ‘guaranteed’ timeframes were blown significantly. Definitely choose with caution!

    Steve,

I have pulled up your account, and your VPS has not technically been down a month… you did a reload which VSXPathway corrupted the install. I see your ticket here and I’m responding now.

    Sandro,

We have hundreds of customers, and I will admit that it may take some time to get back to sales and administrative tickets, but support is just fine and speedy, usually getting back to you within 30 minutes.

    ibunk,

Please provide me a ticket ID or old IP. I know by name most customers that buy bulk VPS’s, and none of them have complained about anything.

    ibunk,

I was able to pull up your account based off the website you mentioned on your post, and I do not appreciate the lies you just posted.

    1. You signed up for our service, and canceled before we even got a change to provision your account.

    2. You never had 1 active VPS, let alone 10.

Thank you for your response here.
If it is how you say how do explain -several- posts in the last months on WTH from people not getting any response to tickets in days?

Plus now that I remember, not that it has something to do with support team time, I opened a ticket yesterday asking for locations + IP test + file. No one answered yet. So it is kinda true what they say.
I’m just asking because I’m interested in this but even though I won’t need tech support on installations, if the VPS becomes down or slow…well not getting basic support from the company would be definitely irritating for me

    Sandro,

Please read the e-mail you received when you opened the ticket… sales/admin is not open on weekends. But you can be sure to get a response today.

And we recently hired more sales/admin specialist to help with the load, so we’re able to get to each and every time in a 24 hour window during business hours.

I did a reload on my VPS on 19th of April as the server was giving a licence expired error message.Ever since then the VPS has been unavailable. I logged the problem the same day and have provided the information to you that you gave me at signup. However Virpus technical support were unable to locate the node for my server. It really has taken this long to get anywhere. I even complained about poor service to Sales and ended with 3 open tickets. I can post the full transcript of my support tickets if you wish. I have nothing to hide. The licence expiry error was not my fault and was linked to Direct Admin, which never really worked properly for me from day One. I therefore did an OS reload as I was going to load my own Control Panel.
The fact the reload was corrupted was unlucky, but I don’t really think I shoud take the blame for this either. If the VXPATHWAY which you provide caused the problem take responsibilty for the issue, I was only carrying out an operation that should have happened without problems. Let’s see how much longer I have to wait…

    Steve,

I did not say you have anything to hide nor did I insinuate that we’re not taking responsibility for the reload issue. Because it failed, and due to the amount of time that has gone by so far, yes we are at fault. I think that is obvious. I made a general statement – that’s all.. not sure why you’re getting defensive.

Sorry if I have caused offence. Just grumpy as I thought we had reached this conclusion on 12/05 and regardless whatever the cause the VPS has been unnavailable for 4 weeks. Perhaps down was the wrong choice of wording in my particular case.

I have not encountered a lot of downtime on my node since I have signed up to try with earlier Virpus offer of $7/month with Directadmin.
My DirectAdmin system uptime is 80 Days, 4 Hours and 36 Minutes.
Yes any Support question respond might be slow for unmanaged.

There is not a lot of problem on my VPS node other than I encountered a few interesting thing this weekend on myvirpus.com new control panel.
They just switch the control panel to SOLUSVM and now my bandwidth showing 500g instead of 1600g.
When I first time logon to the SOLUSVM, My link verification software was identifying myvirpus.com owner was PC SMARTHOSTING FROM UK.
After I reset my password and relogon to the Solusvm, my link verification software identified as myvirpus.com owner was Kenneth Odem from Kansas.

  20. I’ve applied for a VPS with that promotion code. The VPS has been set up quite quickly, its benchmark data are quite impressive for such a price.

If it can be of use, I’ll post more info on using Virplus services, after I test them for several months (otherwise a review is of little use).

Thanks for the post, I like finding good hosters.

I don’t understand all the Virpus bashing here. I have been using them for almost a month now and I haven’t had any major issues. Every support ticket I have submitted has been answered quite quickly. I asked for tun driver so I could use OpenVPN and they were more than willing to enable that for me. For me it was very quick to get this set up.

    Hasanul,

I’m a bit’ puzzled with your post. According to our research, its been well over 6 months since a ticket was replied to from the original TeamVPS staff. If anything support will improve once everything is settled. We will not be officially taking over the account until Friday.

I’ve cancelled my service with TeamVPS a few month ago, don’t remember the date. Little sad that time, because I like the server, faster from my country. Well, I’m happy if you really do acquire TeamVPS, maybe I’ll make new order service in there. I still need human behind the server ;)

  39. Virpus Networks:

Wilson – are you kidding me? You are going to come on here and flat out lie, even though we have been communicating very closely via e-mail regarding providing you a refund (even though the reverse DNS IS PROPERLY setup; it’s not some huge task to do, its very simple).

You haven’t even submitted a cancellation request to say you’ve requested cancellation..

  41. Virpus Networks:

Wilson – even still, my reply to you was simply to request cancellation. I mentioned nothing about a refund and even much less, not providing you a refund or ‘accepting your cancellation’ – therefore you’re lying.

I don’t appreciate it. Why not wait until everything is situated before you try to bad mouth us with untruthful information. I don’t mind owning up to issues, but we do not tolerate customers simply lying on us.

  42. Wilson:

When i’ve talked about cancellation and refound you simply send me the link explaining cancelation and in your default police you say the refound is provided only in the first 7 days. So i’m not lying about nothing. You say yes to refound AFTER i have posted this commemt. The true is i have to cancel because you don’t have sucess to configure reverse.

    Thanks,
    Wilson

    Wilson,

You do realize there was literally a 1 minute gap between you posting on here, and me replying to you right? At that, my e-mail is delayed by 2-3 minutes due to the number of accounts I have. Now you’re discrediting our intent to provide you what we feel is honest? You posting this has nothing to do with my response.

Once again, we DID NOT say anything about not ‘accepting your cancellation’, you ASSUMED, and thus, put words in our mouth. Had you waited before jumping the gun, you would have known we were more than happy to refund you.

Again, the reverse DNS IS setup. This isn’t some mysterious thing to configure – its very simple. You can verify the same by going to a public traceroute service and doing a trace route to your IP. The entries WILL show.

Submit your request for refund, and I will personally ensure it is done immediately.

I’m very happy to have my request accepted. I know is not difficult to configure rdns, but for some reason your ips isn’t working for me. No more comments. Thanks for all.

But still now ,I cant access my VPS anyway, even a single time….
It does not response from Putty(Applying main IP address provided by them to me for my VPS)..
And Console(ssh) is also not working, there some error….
I had submitted 4 to 5 tickets in their Client area regarding this, and all customer/technical support teams are unable to fix that problem..
m asking them to provide a new VPS(coz its not my fault at all),but they ignoring it..
They just redirect my tickets to their “Senior head Admin”…but i think Admin’s have no time!!!!!!!!
