Via this WHT offer. I remembered Virpus from a while ago as it has been selling virtual servers since 2006. They have just released some special offers on WHT where you can get something similar to their unmanaged VPS “U-VM-512” for $7/month (from listed price of $16/month). You get
- 512MB guaranteed/2048MB burstable memory
- 25GB storage (that’s the only thing different from U-VM-512)
- 5Mbps unmetered bandwidth
- OpenVZ/VSXPathway
Servers are in Kansas City colo with MidColo.com, according to this about page. 2GB burstable memory + 5Mbps bandwidth sounds massively oversold — but consider it’s just $7/month I don’t think anyone would complain. You do have to order via this link. 1st month fully managed (panel installation + setting up everything I guess), and you can get DirectAdmin for free if you pay 6 month in advance.
Sounds like a good cheap VPS from a provider that has been around for a while.

I am glad that our offer got the attention of this website. I just wanted to comment and say that none of our nodes are oversold, nor our network (In fact, we just ordered an additional 1Gbps dedicated line for expansion). There is no reason for us to being that we have many resources available to us, and would just like to pass down our savings to our customers.
Anyway, should anyone have any questions about our offer, feel free to e-mail sales@myvirpus.com.

Kenneth — thanks for the comment. Can’t blame me for being a bit sus on offers “too good to be true” but all the best with this promotion :)
This is an ideal plan to setup a PowerDNS nameserver on – I’m currently using SliceHost & VR.org.
Will look into this :)
Sounds good. One month fully management will be very useful for newbies.
I’ve singed up and my CenOS vps is up and running.
In the process of installing everything.
The control panel, vs x pathway is pretty neat, first time I’ve seen this one.
I like the inbuilt firewall stuff, very handy.
Also response times from Sydney are nice a quick, frustrating as hell when ssh commands lag, zero lag here :)
Nicholas,
Great to hear! I appreciate your comments! Also, out of curiosity, what are your response times like from your location to our network?
Thanks,
Ken

Thanks Nicholas.
Domain name MidColo.com is owned by virpus. So, which data center are they actually colocated their servers?
Midcolo.com is actually a colocation brand that Virpus is establishing, but not fully launched. Virpus is leasing colocation space with Wholesale Internet in Kansas City, MO.
Hmmm.. I tried this host. So far, bad experience.
The support is pretty fast and good, I would say. My guess is because its under “fully managed” for 1 month. They replied in within 30 minutes. However, to term the support as fully managed. It is overrated.
Its web control panel, VSXPathway, has given me quite a bit of headache. Every time, I tried to reinstall the OS, the vps will go down and never came back up. I need to get the support to help me turn it back on.
Therefore I decided to escalate the problem to the support of unable to reinstall the OS/reformat the vps. The support decides to forward the ticket to their admin instead. My assumption? This shows how much limited of service, the support is.
Furthermore, it has been 4 days (2 weekends, 2 business days) the issue has been brought forward. Till today, there is no further information about it. Again my guess? Maybe the admin is too busy and left out the ticket.
I have decided not to press on the matter and will wait out and see. But my first impression of virpus? It may be too good to be true afterall.
I signed up for the $7 package a few days ago, it took a little over the 24hrs to set up.
I wanted to give it a try, basically fooled by the shiny unmetered feature advertised, since I wanted to use it as a small streaming video server. The box processing power itself isn’t exactly Usain Bolt speed and it took ages just to perform a yum update, but what the hell, it’s there for just 7 filthy dollars, I wasn’t expecting too much.
Then I attempted to stream something out, and I realized that the 5MB uplink was shared with at least another 5 million people.
After that I tried to wget a test file in the apache home and download it from my local machine. Top speed 14.5 Kb/s (approx. a 120Kbit bandwidth).
I’m now going to their control panel and cancel everything. I don’t think I’ll try ‘unmetered’ plans anymore.
Hello,
This is very odd. I have not seen or heard of such performance. Have you opened a ticket?
Signed up yesterday, waiting for my VPS to be created. So far support had been good and e-mailed me when there was an issue with a delivery concerning some hardware and told me to wait 1 day or get a refund – don’t mind waiting 1 day, but I’m a little concerned with what Francesco just wrote as I am thinking of opening a small Ubuntu download centre; hope it turns out to be relatively fast!

your suprised how when on other sites all your services get terrible terrible reviews by many people :)
I had 28 servers with them, all worked perfectly. I now have a dedicated (another company) and I only use 1 server from them, and it still works wonder. Been a customer since January. I give them an A+, 10/10, etc…
