Halloween has been celebrated here for years.

    • Has it always been the way the Yanks celebrated it?

      • Probably not quite as much as in the US but it’s still celebrated a bit over here. Bonfire night is probably the bigger event though.

Any plans on having native ipv6 address too (for the VPSes)?

    October 16, 2010 @ 5:33 pm | Reply
  6. @mina; Thank you for the feedback.

@dirk: Currently we don’t have plans to adopt IPv6 in the next few months as we don’t have the demand to justify the implementation at the moment.

If there are any other queries please let us know and either myself or Nick will respond as promptly as possible.

Nice offer. But DirectAdmin is costlier than Cpanel?

    October 16, 2010 @ 6:20 pm | Reply
  8. @Anand, the reason for the pricing is because cPanel have a VPS licensing option where as DirectAdmin do not so cPanel works out cheaper for us to offer as we purley pass the licensing cost on, we don’t add a margin.

    • Not sure what you’re looking at but other companies have reported that they’re supplying DA to users at a $5 cost to them price point on their VPSes.

DA has some really messed up numbers that they throw around when it comes to different price points. I know I’m paying $19 per server and they tell me that’s the lowest they can go for 122 servers. Makes no sense to me as they’re now a $14 price point on their site.

      October 16, 2010 @ 11:33 pm | Reply
      • The pricing from DirectAdmin is $14 for an internal license whether it is a dedicated server or VPS so once you take into account payment processing fees and the exchange rate it comes to about £10. You can get lower pricing once you have high commitments however the number of DirectAdmin servers we have compared to cPanel is considerably low so we don’t get bulk licensing like cPanel. The $19 license is if DirectAdmin install it for you from memory. With 122 servers however you should definatley be eligible for bulk pricing.

        • DirectAdmin VPS licenses are $5/mo Internal.

It’s a Code something license (Might be code 350) on the drop-down menu.

        • I don’t mind paying the $19 per box price point. Just wish everybody was on the same page with prices with them and the pay scheme was logical.

Thanks though for the responses. It’s less than what I would be paying with cPanel. :)

        • We have now been given access to the correct license option and as such we have adjusted the Directadmin pricing to £3.50/month.

  9. Thanks Jason. I will get in touch with them as we don’t have access to that code line as the last contact we had they didn’t offer VPS licenses.

Pretty disappointed. Signed up, then when contacting support in order to find out where any control panel area was – in order to setup SSH – support replied they’re Windows based and don’t support SSH. Windows, no shell, no control over apps? I think I wasted 30 pounds on a year’s signup.

    October 19, 2010 @ 12:33 pm | Reply
    • Hi James,
The reason for this is because you have signed up for a Windows Shared Web Hossting account and not a VPS. If it is a VPS you require please contact support again and we will switch you over to a VPS and invoice you for the small difference.

    Questions for the VooServers team:
Is it xen Paravirtualization (PV) or HVM?
If xen PV – do you have non bloated distro images like Arch Linux available?

    October 19, 2010 @ 7:06 pm | Reply
    • Hi John,
It is Xen PV however we also have plans for Xen HVM within the next few weeks.

At the moment we have Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian and Fedora.

This is what is written on your site:

“We have a number of different operating systems that can be automatically deployed on to your virtual private server however if you require an alternative please contact our sales team as our engineers may be able to create a custom installation.”

    Strange.

    • Hi Ali,
I haven’t said that we won’t be able to make it up. From the way I read John’s question he was asking what we had available on our nodes so I have listed the templates that we currently have made up. If there are users interested in Arch Linux I will try to make a template up today.

  16. Mr M:

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say a quick Thank-you to the Vooserver team. They helped me setup my VPS very quickly. I used their PromoCode which got me not only 30% discount but also an extra 64mb of RAM too. The speed compared to my old host Streamline.net is great. My PHP pages are loading around 3 times quicker, so I am very impressed indeed. I purchased a second IP so I could run my own nameserver’s this only cost £1 a month as a extra. Uptime so far is fantastic, really could not be happier. To be honest the price you pay is peanuts for the excellent and i mean excellent support you get. Matt and Nick, Thank-You!
