VooServers - £3.60 256MB Xen VPS in UK

Matt from VooServers emailed me a week ago about their Christmas special, which can also be found on WHT. Use promo code XMASVPS20 to get 20% off recurring discount + double the memory. Their base package is now £3.60/month (~USD$5.60). Direct sign up link.

  • 256MB memory/512MB swap
  • 10GB storage
  • 200GB/month data transfer
  • Xen/SolusVM

This promotion will hopefully last until the end of January. Again, if you are from UK/EU you will need to pay VAT which would bump up the price. VooServers run their own racks and have been providing dedicated boxes for other companies/resellers. Servers in Kent UK.

I’m quite interested in this package.
My problem is, will 256MB Xen be enough for Debian + TomCat/GlassFish + PHP + MySql + OpenVPN (Personal Use, lowest visit you could imagine). Or shall I go for the £6.40/month 512MB solution? (I’m currently using 512MB OpenVZ and I feel that would be insufficient under such usage)

Besides, does VooServers provide IPv6 support?
Is there a test file available? I am in Asia and have never used services from EU.

Quite a lot of questions here. Thank you in advance for any reply.

    • Hi Gene,
Sorry the cat walked on the keyboard and submitted the last one before I had finished :). What I would recommend in this situation is to try the 256MB package for your needs and we can upgrade you in a matter of minutes without any data loss to 512MB if the need arises.

We don’t provide IPv6 just yet however we have today signed a new agreement for another point of presence which goes live in January and will offer native IPv6.

For test files please see the following KB article from our website which has details on speed test files.

This seems a really suitable one for me. Some more questions.
LEBadmin mentioned that this offer will last until the end of January. I want to assure this since I need to make use of ipv6 and there are quite a few configurations that have to be done differently with/without ipv6. Will this offer still be there by the time native IPv6 is up (until the end of January as is mentioned by LEBadmin)? Will ipv6 bring extra fees?
You mentioned about try 256MB first and then upgrade. My question is, this recurring discount includes 20% off + double the memory, will these discounts still effective if I upgrade at a later time?

        • Hi Gene,
As you have registered your interest in the offer but you want to wait for IPv6 I will be happy to offer this promotion to you even if it expires before IPv6 is fully ready.

The discounts are for the lifetime of your service so if you wish to upgrade at a later date the promotion will still apply to the package you upgrade to.

So if someone were to sign up today would they get native ipv6 in January? or would
the VPS need to be relocated to the new PoP ?

    December 21, 2010 @ 10:30 pm | Reply
    • Hi Joe,
The VPS would need to be migrated to the nodes in the new POP in January if you wanted to take advantage of IPv6. This is going to be primarily a mix of Hurricane Electric and Cogent to start with however more peers are planned to be added as IPv6 is more widely taken on board.

Just a couple of quick questions:
How come you charge a fee to use the discount code?
Also are you tied into a year contract?

    December 23, 2010 @ 6:52 am | Reply
    • Hi Kyle,
There is no fee to use the discount code however if you are seeing otherwise please let me know where and I will get it corrected for you. After using the discount code on the order form it should come to £3.60 plus the pro-rata fee for the rest of this month which as of today should be about £4.41 but will take you through until 1st Feb 2011.

Contracts can either be on a monthly or yearly basis it’s up to you to choose on the order form.

    Is not 256MB memory/512MB swap, it’s 128MB :(

    December 26, 2010 @ 11:59 am | Reply
    • Hi Borja,
Have you restarted your VPS from the control panel since you got it as we have to add the extra RAM manually which is usually within 15 minutes but does require a restart of the VPS before it will show up.

      December 26, 2010 @ 12:01 pm | Reply
      • Just to add if after a reboot your not seeing the extra ram/swap drop a ticket in and someone will reply within a couple of minutes with the correction as they are all 256/512.

Can we make more swap ourself? Swap File?

          December 26, 2010 @ 12:12 pm | Reply
        • Hi Daniel,
Yes that’s not a problem however as it would be file based it will come out of your disk allowance. If you are planning on needing your swap space increased or you would prefer a higher memory allowance to prevent swapping in the first place please contact us with your requirements as we may be able to put something together as a custom package for you.

btw, swap file can abuse disk I/O

          December 26, 2010 @ 12:28 pm | Reply
        • Hi,
We monitor disk I/O on high priority so anyone caught to be abusing it is sent a warning notice first of all so they have a chance to investigate it and continuing abuse will then lead to further investigation and possible suspension depending on the circumstances. As previously noted while creating a swap file is up to you we would urge you to contact us first as we are flexible with our plans and may be able to put something better together.

I would like to use VooServers’s VPS services but they are currently out of stock. I emailed the sales department but have not had a reply. Can someone from VooServers tell me when they will have VPS back in stock and will they still give me this Dec/Jan special offer. Thanks.

    • Hi Erik,
I have double checked our inbox and it doesn’t look like we ever received your e-mail as everything has been replied to. We have a delivery of new nodes arriving on Monday so we expect to be accepting orders for VPS’s again by late afternoon on Monday.

I see you now have VPS back in stock but the discount code appears to have expired. It is not running until the end of January? Thanks.

  10. Hi Erik,

Yes thats correct we do have these back in stock, the issue was that the expiry date was set wrong. This has now been changed to the end of the month. Thanks for pointing it out to us!
