VPS Empire - 256MB OpenVZ VPS for $6.95

Update August 2008: VPS Empire has been acquired by A2B2/VAserv, and all customers will be migrated over.

VPSEmpire.comVia this WHT offer, VPS Empire, a “week-old” VPS provider according to the domain registration, is offering some dirt cheap VPS plans. For $6.95/month you get the following OpenVZ VPS:

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 5GB storage
  • 100GB monthly data transfer
  • CentOS/Debian/Fedora Core
  • HyperVM

Yup. Under 7 bucks a month for 256MB memory guaranteed — too good to be true? Digging up the poster on WHT I think the owner might be UK based, but the server is with GNAX in Atlanta, Georgia.

Update: It appears that VPSEmpire has completely updated its plans to something completely different. The low end now is $4.95/month with 128MB memory, 5GB storage and 50GB data transfer/month.

  1. VPSEmpire is a sub-company of MediaTier Incorporated, Correct the domain name is infact only a year old and yes we do offer an unbeatable service at just $7.95/per month for a Basic VPS.

Not a fly-by But the makings of a great Empire. With client’s singing our praises via email, helpdesk & telephone.

Any chance of providing a test-file link so that we can check the VPS speed?

There are too much changes undergoing there, pricing for extras like unmetered bandwidth on their billing system is inconsistent with their plan page (USD$7 vs USD$2)..

The constant changes in layout and plans make me wonder if this is actually something fully thought through in which one can rely.

Just to update you folks on the billing inconsistency, it seems they have fixed that and settled with USD$2 for unmetered bandwidth and IRC allowed..

Yet, there have been just too many layout and site design changes in just a few days of existence to my taste, given how those are usually a good teller for services that are not fully though through.. and eventually end up terminated without notice.

A shame, since it seemed like the best package one could ever get for that money.. almost too good to be true, even with the now halved RAM from 256MB->128MB and halved bandwidth.

Also, uh-oh for MediaTier Inc, the supposed parent company that has their site closed down..

  7. I have a vps with them and so far it is ok. I have not fully configured it yet. No 64-bit os templates though also doesn’t seem that I can use vzdump to restore a 64-bit vps that was my alpha environment, but that seems to be a limitation of hypervm not their companys fault. They have been very responsive to my requests so far. I just did a unix bench on my vps and am getting 354.5 not bad for about $14 a month unmettered vps not bad at all. I mainly have this vps as a test environment at the moment anyways, however, I have been considering getting another vps and moving all of my dedicated sites over to a vps, however, I want to wait a little bit on that. Other than that the staff has been very responsive to my email and chat requests.

    Thanks

  8. Well. Since Gavin was posted in the comments here I am not sure whether I want to bring this up. According to what he has posted back in December last year, he was trying to unload MediaTier. Maybe it has something to do with it?

Anyway. I am just here publishing/relaying cheap VPS I found from WHT. HOWEVER I will be very hesitated to buy from many of them especially those “too good to be true”. There are some guys that I would trust my money with, but with many stories of new providers ran off leaving burnt customers… I’ll be VERY carefully investigating the past history of the providers, and not just counting of the price alone.

  9. True thats why I am waiting a while to move my other sites, to see how stable the service really is..

  10. Admin: MediaTier was sold due to personal sircumstances last year, however the buying party has not since been back :| This was a fully legitimate transaction he paid cash and then “Vanished” for whatever reason i dont know. 5 Months later i realised that he hadnt done anything with the company and just let the servers expire etc. So with the assistance of Rickie my new business partner we rebuilt MediaTier. After rapid success we then moved onto offering VPS Services which turned out to take ALOT more time / effort than we previously anticipated thus our closure of MediaTier. VPS Empire has made great success over the past month or so and we are here to stay.

We or adleast Me personally do not blame you for being sceptical about our service. Afterall its a small and very un-heardof company still. But I have a feeling peoples opinions will change over the upcoming months we have been processing upto 12 Orders per day.

    Pricing Structures:
Yes these have been changed now, This was down to what was previously mentioned we had nodes, a website & no pricing strategy, Therfore we put something up quickly to “Make Do” To be totally honnest we never anticipated so many sales!

    Site Design:
Who doesnt like a perfectionist? The web design was 100% Re-Built to take it away from the “MediaTier Network” theme. Then we decided there was something missing then we set out to build what we have now :) As far as i am aware everything is consistant with the homepage / billing / packages pages.

    Alas,
Thanks for the interest and this post even our recent showings are that this has made us > 5 orders, You should signup for an affiliate link code and earn some of these sales.

  11. Thanks Gavin for the clarification. I don’t think I qualify as an affiliate as I can’t really recommend anything that I have never used myself.

Anyway. All the best with VPS Empire!

  13. Hi skeptic,
I’d love for you to back that statment up? How do you see yourself as having the nerve to pass judgment over VPS Empire, You havnt even been near the helpdesk or anything, I’d like to see you find somebody who offers our level of service at our prices without overselling.

Update on the thread our packages are now startign as low as $4.95/per month!!!

    Regards,

Not really the kind of answer I was expecting to that kind of “statement”..
It actually ends up showing more than it meets the eye.

We know what to expect at this price point. But make no mistake, when I pay for a service I expect the company to honor what I have contracted.

To me, the single most important thing in a host is reliability. Pardon me if I say that a host that barely reached a month of existence doesn’t really have the morale to talk (in absolute) about this “levels of service”, specially when the best track record is a closed parent company.

It all sums up to “so far” and isn’t really that far, at least to indirectly talk about others service, since it has been barely a month.

  15. Agreed in the entirety of your post Webmaster, However it doesnt take a month to give a good level of service, As said previously yes we are accepting that people are sceptical about our service, But to be totally honnest can you afford to be sceptacle over $4.95, Granted its principals here that matter. Alas we ARE able to offer these prices and we ARE able to offer a high customer service level. I would be more than willing to post up links to screenshots of customers in live chat / tickets complimenting our service.

I’m not out to aregue with anybody, the parent company isnt “Closed” it simply doesnt accept orders anymore. We operate under VPS Empire now and no longer as MediaTier, but im sure that matters so much.
