Jonathan from SysHosts Network emailed me about their low end special at $4.99/month for the following VPS product (sign up link):
- 160MB guaranteed/320MB burstable memory
- 20GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/VirtPanel
Servers are in UK. Jonathan passed me the test IP 78.129.132.130 which appears to belong to IOMart Hosting/RapidSwitch. You can also use promo code LOWEND to get $1.99 off 1st month (not recurring).

Sequential DNS, FWIW.
Yes. It’s pretty much a joke that providers with proper DNS setup are actually rare.
Not a funny joke, alas. But very true.
Ironically, at least three of the companies advertising over there on the right have non-redundant DNS. Guess advertising is more important than infrastructure. :)
Beware! ThrustVPS reseller-only offer! We get these little babies for $15.05 a YEAR — recommended selling price is $21.50 a YEAR. Why pay nearly 3 times the price with these guys when any ThrustVPS reseller will sell this to you much much cheaper? ;)
Thrust::VPS uses SolusVM but these guys are using VirtPanel? I know IOMart owns both Thrust and RapidSwitch, and the test IP falls into their range — but different control panel means different infrastructure?
They have their own servers.
Their company was a few weeks ago sold to Johnathon.
Just because they may own some hardware does not mean they are not reselling for ThrustVPS as well. ;)
By the way, iomart went shopping again… they bought Titan Internet for 4.2 mil GBP yesterday.
Virtpanel link does not work and no SSL: http://node.syshosts.com:8884/login.php
Maybe the converted to SolusVM?
“Little Birdie”: Please will you contact me
Perhaps. What exactly would you like to discuss with me?
It is about the current reseller agreement you have with us, assuming you are an authorised reseller
If someone I trust like Thrust are selling these “wholesale” at $15/year, it makes me feel a lot better about the sustainability of some of the offers we see here. I wouldn’t expect Thrust to be selling at a loss to get customers, so a $15/year VPS is financially sustainable it seems.
Of course, this is sans support, because the reseller is supposed to give support and add a little onto the cost of the VPS to pay for the support, but it gives confidence that a less than $2/month VPS is actually possible in the long term.
They have FreeBSD image for OS, right?
OpenVZ and FreeBSD?? o_O
FreeBSD running on OpenVZ is not possible. With OpenVZ, all of the guests run the same kernel, so it’s impossible to run anything other than Linux in an OpenVZ container.
