Russell from AlienVPS and webRulon has just informed me their latest special, as seen on WHT. $19/year, and here is the direct sign up link. You get
- 190MB memory
- 19GB storage
- 190GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
No burstable memory is mentioned so I assume there is none. Servers in Las Vegas NV. Test IP: 208.93.153.101, which is direct allocation to Russell’s webRulon LLC. They are also having a 25% off recurring discount promo when you use the coupon code 25off. You can get their regular plan “UFO 2” for $6.75/month. Direct sign up link for that.
- 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
- 50GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
Russell launched AlienLayer as the umbrella site for his shared, VPS and dedicated server hosting sites, and relaunched AlienVPS, which he acquired from John in November last year.

I don’t recall a Las Vegas provider before. I don;t see any mention about who they’re using on their Datacenter page. Any ideas?
I have to mention though that I’m concerned about their Reviews though. Got one linking to what’s got to be a illegal streaming site, five linking to nowhere, and one linking to what appears to be another webhosting company or a webhosting review site that was last updated in 2009.
To their credit though, looks like the reviews are legit. At least they’re only on their site.
*sigh* Let the trolling begin.
The last link didn;t take. Let’s try again:
Da Google Search.
LowEndAdmin: Edited
*sigh* I hate wordpress. Never works right on any day with a ‘y’ in it.
Thank you.
One of these days, I’ll have to create my own private shortner that will fly under the library’s radar.
Why are you always online from library only? Mom doesn’t have a computer?
Seriously PenguinTux, this is getting old.
Penguin Tux is just jelous that hes still on Windows 95.
Hurricane Electric?
Could be it, that they are colo inside VegasNAP?
Something’s wrong. The pretty lady on that page is missing her headset.
:)
The Vegas node uses http://vegasnap.com (probably a colo); the NY node is a colo at http://ubiquityservers.com
Yes, colo.
They’re going and trying to follow every follower of FrantechCA on twitter, that’s not nice IMO.
*shrug* I don’t see that as a problem. Open access and available. Heck, Twitter encourages stuff like that with their “See who they’re following” suggestions.
That’s only 700 odd followers. They’ll probably get more response if they try to follow all Justin Bieber’s followers.
Invalid security certificate is a dealbreaker for me. They can’t even host their own site correctly.
Huh?! Their SSL site works on IE9, Firefox and Chrome. Yes not all the elements on the page are encrypted, but the certificate itself is valid. Unless you mean signed by GoDaddy = invalid :P
You even attempted IE9, seriously LEA?
IE9 reports every site as secure, because its “developer” friendly. Psst in my dreams.
You know. Sometimes it is necessary to attempt the extremely dangerous, because that’s what your users are using. Never been developing websites and working around all the IE quirks?
IE9 is fast :D
Actually, its as slow as it ever was.
Microsoft made it even dirtier in IE9, it dosent even render HTML Canvas correctly. Microsoft don’t give a damn about developers, only care about having market share, which face it because IE now lacks it.
No, is fast…. see the reviews…. About standarization, I don’t care, as always doesn’t respect standards, and as always is the most used browser… I don’t hate it, is just another one.
Their certificate was issued today, which is kinda strange:
http://tools.vlddb.org/head/https%3A%2F%2Falienlayer.com%2F
Interestins, there is a $35/year 192MB XEN in their cart. (A $45/year KVM too, but is out of stock).
Their pricing/virtualization doesn’t make much sense as judging by it they oversell openvz hard, I bought it and everything is good, but it’s clearly a fresh node.

I am a bit worried that those guys are going to GAMBLE away my server if I sign up with them :)
Been with AlienVPS for about 4 months now.
I originally bought it for a game server but another provider had a better deal for a better rate. However that didn’t stop me from this review.
AlienVPS has been very decent with me in general. However they had totally forgot my tickets a couple of times, and once when I let the VPS expire on the end of my payment for them they automatically answered my ticket about my VPS suspension but never ended up fixing PuTTY and SSH for me.
However some good news, because of the tickets not being answered I did get my extra RAM I wanted for free and Russell gave me a FREE month of VPS UFO 6 to try out, and it isn’t bad!
I don’t know if I’ll pay for it again as the other provider still offers a better deal but it has been a very good experience minus the issues with those two tickets above.
Overall, tl;dr, AlienVPS is a great unmanaged system, but if you need tickets answered sometimes, it may take up to 48 hours at times. So it’s almost entirely unmanaged but they will fix when they get to you.
Grade in my opinion: B
I’m actually thinking about use it to backup files on my other VPS. Cheap + Enough Storage.
I got 1 VPS with them before their acquired by current owner, but I have termiated that VPS since it’s not in use anymore.
However this offer attracted me to get another VPS with me for a review.
Here is some information of the VPS:
CPU Information:
Disk I/O Speed:
Download Speed:
I’m impressed by the performance with this price. Maybe the node do not have much VMs now, but really hope they can keep it on.
Hey guys this is Russell here from AlienLayer. I’d just like to chime in and let you guys know that we do not ever plan to overload our nodes like the other VPS providers out there. The reason we haven’t had any new offers over the past 6 months is that we’ve been busy building up our infrastructure and now have plenty of empty nodes ready to go live when needed!
I want your yearly offer in new york u_u xD
I really like the design. Cool concept
Hey, Russel, do you also offer cPanel/WHM reseller package?
I was going to point out their alienlayer.com brand but that just leads to a login page.
Hi Holyman, we will be offering this via our UFOHost.net brand which should be launching sometime this week!
geez, the server is fast.
I’d recommend waiting for node to fill up to be sure how fast it will remain, but so far I’m also seeing good performance.
I’m gonna try them, and will reply back here soon. if its good or not
Yes they are inside VegasNAP, on AS33440 (“webRulon, LLC”) – Singlehomed HE + some Mbit for Multihoming to AS53340 (“VergasNAP, LLC”).
It looks like they own the AS and the IP Space, and use static routing (BGP alike) to route the HE Routes.
Anyone one know if the have any Uptime Gurantee? Any uptime SLA? And what they do for unexpected downtime?
Just sign up, the vps seem to be good. but their support seem isn’t available at the weekend ^_^ also tun/tap isn’t enable by default, also no ssl for solusvm.
Hi, our support staff has been around this weekend. All tickets are up to date and have all been responded too. We also do have a secure SolusVM url which may be found at: https://vps.alienvps.com:5656 – Please note that it is an unsigned certificate but it is indeed a valid HTTPS connection. We will be adding a signed certificate for this url sometime this week.
Confirmed, thanks.
solusvm is now ssl-ed, the vps is fast, I hope it stay that way ^_^.

Ordered, payed, setup was instant.
Speed is pretty good atm (Node LV9).

Not mentioned in LEB Post.
Very misleading.
I bought my knowing about the limitation, but actually it doesn’t seem to have a port limit.
Maybe it can burst to full speed for some time, then it caps? Just ask their support if port speed interests you.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you guys know that we just posted a new WHT promo for 50% off of our Xen plans, not sure what the rules are so I won’t post the link but you can find it @WHT
I just signed up for a year…. they email your password to you in cleartext, wtf.
But it seems pretty decent, I’m setting it up right now.
No promo at OpenVz ?
Ordered `$19/year’. Marked Fraud. Manually processed in 4 hours.
Payed. Instant Set up. Got 9GB rather than 19GB disk.
Submitted a ticket. Got an instant reply. Fixed.
So far so good. Actually, I’m quite impressed by their support speed as for my experience of the 2 support tickets I submitted. Keep doing great!
Nice to see a provider actually work with a new client who got marked as fraud.
Hope things work well for you.
Hello,
Seems that promo code 25off and 50off (WHT) has been expired..
Got the $19/yr one. Had a quick talk on their live chat, very helpful, polite and quick. Setup was pretty much instant, running nicely. Will need to give it a bit of a test and finish setting up everything, but it seems pretty good so far.
how is your vps server going on? is it running nice? i am asking you because i am planning to buy one
Hi Everyone, we are now offering the $19/year Abduction plans in New York!
Damn! But I bought another offer yesterday!! (Ok, waiting a money back of some other provider….)
80MB/s on las vegas node and only 18-20MB/s in new york.
dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
16384+0 records in
16384+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 58.276 s, 18.4 MB/s
Really good pings from Europe to their NY test server…. So tempting… Do I REALLY need another VPS???
For $1.60/month I’ll give it a go. Set up was instant, and the only problem so far was a bad source.list file for Debian 6 32-bit. apt-get update kept throwing errors.
Also, this seemed questionable, but maybe it’s just standard fine print:
They throttling download speed
Well, I guess you were lucky at the start, or you are in a congested node. If you read about the yearly plan, they guarantee a 5mbps speed.
Just tried mine again in node lv9. Result still good.
I were lucky at the first start.
Someone is having problems in his VPS at New York?
Hello Yomero, which type of problem do you have ?
I was about to buy from them until I read the ToS. What a great start for a new hosting company:
Refund Policy:
– All payments to AlienVPS are non-refundable. Thus once your payment is confirmed we offer no refunds. Their is no exceptions and you agree to our no-refund policy.
– We reserve the right to change any term at any given time.
No uptime guarantee, no guarantee of continual service, only a guarantee that if they feel like it they can deactivate your account and not tell you why. They could randomly deactivate 15 accounts on an oversold server to make room for new accounts, and then not issue any refunds. This is by far the least reputable ToS I have ever read. I would strongly recommend against throwing money at such a trash company that doesn’t stand behind the services they offer.
Scaley jason? Damn its only $19 . I donated close to that in food to a busker/homeless person yesterday. There refund policy is clear : expect what you pay for. Having said that I actually have one of there 19$ packages. 70-80 i/o and 9.7 m/s makes me pretty happy. No downtime! Why not stop bashing other company’s and go and manage your company’s instead of watching them go and appear in the deadpool.
VPS hosting is now a charitable organization. Pledge your contribution today.
me and my buddy both have had 0 problems with alien, we’re on different nodes. I would gladly pay 40-50$ a year for this service.. thats how stable it is.
they were good (Vps was fast)
but the STAFF’s / support are rarely this days!
