Igor from VDS6 emailed me an interesting offer today. It’s FreeBSD — it uses BSD jail rather than hardware virtualization to get FreeBSD 8.2 running on amd64 platform. It’s also IPv6 only, although the website itself does exist on IPv4 so you can still browse and make purchase on the v4 network. Their low end offer “v128” is $1.95/month and it has
- 128MB memory/128MB swap
- 2GB storage (not including system files)
- 100GB/month data transfer
- 5x IPv6
- FreeBSD
Payment in either PayPal or Webmoney (Z). Servers with Hetzner in Germany (test IP: 2a01:4f8:150:1102::ffe). Domain was created in October 2011 so there isn’t any review out there. The fact that it’s FreeBSD + IPv6-only would ensure it stays as a niche product. IPv4 wasn’t even an available purchase option when you sign up.

It also says on the homepage that you get a 50 OFF your first month.
Interesting! I wonder what are the intrinsecs, pros and cons of these BSD jails =)
Cons: no tun/tap/fuse interfaces
Pros: FreeBSD consumes less memory per application compared to Linux. So you can run more applications on your server.
You can also use it for IRC related needs.
Easy to use and setup ipfw rules.
Easy to read and comprehend FreeBSD handbook.
And, SSH over IPv4 network. SSH over IPv4 – means that you can SSH into VDS/VPS even if you don’t have IPv6 network at home.
I just wonder how can you not include system files on a virtual disk? -.-;
By linking a minimal template to vds directory. Try it. You will not regret it.
Thank you.
IPv6 only,it’s hard to use for most of people !
Actually it’s easy. For this we have created SSH over IPv4.
Explanation: SSH over IPv4 – means that you can get into VDS/VPS even if you don’t have IPv6 network at home.
Here is a small howto login over IPv4 network: http://vds6.net/bsdstart/
IPv4 network is available inside VDS but some ports are blocked on the outside.
Thank you.
I can’t access the website over IPv6 (which is working fine for other sites):
$ curl -v6 http://vds6.net/
* About to connect() to vds6.net port 80 (#0)
* Trying 2400:cb00:2048:1::adf5:3c77... connected
> GET / HTTP/1.1
> User-Agent: curl/7.22.0 (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu) libcurl/7.22.0 OpenSSL/1.0.0e zlib/1.2.3.4 libidn/1.23 libssh2/1.2.8 librtmp/2.3
> Host: vds6.net
> Accept: */*
>
[...stays here for a LONG time, and then:...]
* Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
* Closing connection #0
curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer
That should be fixed now. Please allow DNS records to change.
Thank you.
Indeed, it works now.
Not trying to be a dick head, but how is this a LEB Special when $1.95 is the default price on their website? Am I missing something? :0
And not to try to spam but there are these kind of posts already. Having a lower price than the default isn’t a requirement to be posted here I think. Just needs to be sub $7.
Yeah no where did I say that is a “special”. I said that it is an interesting offer – you don’t see much FreeBSD jail VPS these days.
Nice offer but I wish had ipv4.
the website is down from me. Im using US base VPN. I scare if the website unavailable for some time, the vps could be the same.
by the way, the offer is good for me. Good way to start learning ipv6
Site is loading ok for me..
IPv4 traffic goes through cloudflare cdn.
IPv6 traffic goes straight without cloudflare cdn.
If you can ping6 2a01:4f8:150:1102::ffe everything is fine. On the other hand billing system is working on IPv4 network only for now. We will turn IPv6 support on for our billing system this coming Monday.
Thank you.
Did this website has been running before 2 weeks or am wrong?
Creation Date: 22-oct-2011
Expiration Date: 22-oct-2012
We need a guarantee before contracting with them to didn’t lose our data as others left us.
^FB
We are not asking clients to prepay for a year. Only if you prepay for a year or longer and hosting goes dead, you loose money.
We have another hosting projects running (multiple) that support us financially. We are not going anywhere any time soon.
What other guarantees do you prefer? Give us an idea. We are here to listen.
Thank you.
It might help if you gave some other urls about your company, with info about its past activity. Guarantees about the future are harder to take seriously if there is no known past to extrapolate from.
As other hosting projects are not as budget as vds6, i would like to keep them out of VDS6.NET information and business.
To find information about us, simply whois vds6.net domain name and search Delaware division of corporations website/listing for our business name. It’s there. Nothing is secret nowadays.
VDS6,
Sorry to confuse you bro, but serously i had 1 year contract with a company here and they end in the Dead pool 2011, as i did lose a backup for many customers ( always running backup now ), and then they left without any respond.
Otherwise i love BSD system and like your company security first because jailing BSD system is nice and i would have a box from you :).
As i wish the best for you.
Regards,
^FB
We will be glad to have you here!
100 Gb traffic out or combined in/out ?
With other words, is incoming traffic free ? ;)
> 100 Gb traffic out or combined in/out ?
We measure the one you use to most.
You can do 95 Gb incoming and 100 Gb outgoing. So in our case its not going to be 195 Gb total. It’s just going to be 100 Gb outgoing.
“IPv4 network is available inside VDS but some ports are blocked on the outside.”
So, at the end, we can put services in ipv4?
IPv4 network is available inside VDS through NAT. On the interface of your VDS you will see IPv4 local IP address (for example 10.10.0.11) and multiple IPv6 IPs. Locals will only work locally.
IPv4 network is available inside VDS for outgoing connections but all incoming connections are closed. Please refer to what NAT is to see how it works.
Please read 1st paragraph. It explains how to login to your VDS through IPv4 network/connection : http://vds6.net/bsdstart/
PS: we might consider running IPv4 services as well in the nearest future at some US location. Just need to find a place who offers IPv4 IPs in multiple quantities + IPv6 of course.
Thanks.
Nice… http://www.reddit.com/r/ipv6/comments/ne5iu/a_german_freebsd_jail_host_selling_nothing_but/
I think your FreeBSD-Jails have a big market? :)
It’s just another project of our company. You may read the main purpose of VDS6 at our contacts page. We are not aiming for any glory.
Wait 2-3 years when additional IPv4 IP would cost 25$ a single one and IPv6 is inevitable.
Those people who need our services will buy them, those who do not will not. It’s a true rule for any business.
PS: For those who need native IPv4 + native IPv6, we will have a separate vds plan line soon.
Can you run a web server on the “deal” with the IPv6 limitations?
Thanks for your help, and sorry to ask such a “dumb” question??
I normally use Centos and Kloxo.
Yes, you can. We recommend to install nginx + php-fpm configuration for better results. But you may also go with Apache if you wish.
FreeBSD is just like CentOS but much easier and more stable. CentOS has yum packets manager, FreeBSD has pkg_add packets manager and ports system. BTW official FreeBSD ports usually have more of up-to-date software compared to Linux.
Thank you.
You could maybe make a small tutorial, how to do that with FreeBSD – I think the most users won’t order it, because they don’t know how to install / configure things in FreeBSD.
Another question: Is it possible to reinstall (automaticly) my Jail?
We have a knowledge base system inside our billing system. We will surely add a tutorial.
What would you like to see there?
You can re-install your system from VDSmanager control panel: http://vds6.net/vdsmanager/
Each buyer automatically gets an access to VDSmanager.
Thank you.
If you would write the following two / three tutorials for FreeBSD it would be excellent, and I think you would get more orders, because the people will understand *BSD Systems more. (Maybe me included :P)
http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/yes-you-can-run-18-static-sites-on-a-64mb-link-1-vps/
http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/wordpress-cheap-vps-lowendscript/
(http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/running-trac-git-hosting-on-a-low-end-vps/)
Sorry, but your are clearly asking for too much work with no real profit/outcome. Would you work for free? I guess not.
FreeBSD ain’t different from Linux to the end user. The only difference is how you install the software. In Debian/Ubuntu it’s apt-get/aptitude, CentOS/Fedora it’s yum and for FreeBSD it’s pkg_add and ports.
So all you need to do is to change bash script to run with pkg_add and to work with FreeBSD directories. In case of FreeBSD software gets installed into /usr/local/etc/ directory (In Linux it get installed into /etc/) and runs (start-up scripts) from /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ directory, compared to Linux’s /etc/init.d/
Excellent VPS for IRCing :) Also, fast and helpful support, I recommend VDS6 to everyone who don’t need IPv4 :)
For those who need IPv4 we will have IPv4 (native) + IPv6 (native) VDS some time soon. Still thinking which place to choose. We are thinking, maybe, Ukraine?
Thank you.
Why Ukraine? Germany / Netherlands / France / England would be much cheaper and there is a better connection around the world. Switzerland, Austria or Sweden would be a great server location.
Ukraine = Hosting.ua or Infiumhost or what?
In our case we deal a lot with Webmoney and have plenty of Webmoney, so we are looking for a host who would accept Webmoney + we were looking for a spot who would supply us with IPv4 with minimum investment. Providers in mentioned countries would not give IPv4 is large blocks.
No it’s not hosting.ua, nor infiumhost.
Thank you.
Sounds great!
Ukraine would be a pretty nice location, when do you plan to have that node up and running?
Anyway, is there a nullfs mount of /usr/ports or do we have to set up the port three within the two GB?
Thanks!
>> Anyway, is there a nullfs mount of /usr/ports or do we have to set up the port three within the two GB?
You will have to do (portsnap fetch extract) yourself. Templates are supplied without ports. Each additional 1Gb of HDD is only 0.5$ a month. You may automatically order additional space from our billing panel. You do not even have to order 1Gb, you can order additional HDD space from 1Mb to **(any)Gb.
On the other hand you can install software without installing ports by using command pkg_add (Example: pkg_add -vr nginx).
Thank you.
PS: We are still thinking about Ukraine. Give me couple of weeks. I’m vacationing in Florida. After I get back to Boston i’ll deal with finalizing my discussion with DC in Ukraine.
Thanks again.
Ok, thanks!
Do you own all your hardware?
How many users are there on one server?
Thanks!
All hardware is rented. We are an example of people/company who like to concentrate on service other than dealing with hardware problems. So Datacenter fixes hardware issues for us while we run the software.
Currently 65 people signed up with VDS6.NET. They are all on one server.

Estonia would be also great… ask torqhost / wavecom maybe you could get there some ips and can pay with webmoney
We tend to deal with datacenters only. Straight with datacenters and without dealing with resellers. We also like to see where (pictures) our rented hardware is colocated. If there is no pictures, they probably run basement operations and we try not to deal with such companies.
Thank you for understanding and have a good day.
@VDS6,
you’re the first person who declare how many user on their box
@pain: Nope, there are several that told that, check the archives of the website.
@VDS6: Ok, thanks!
From their website it looks like the offer described in the post now costs only $0.95/mo, not $1.95.
Yes. It’s the price that is going to stay as we are getting IPv4+IPv6 jails ready in Ukraine.
Please explain, I can now have a VPS with FreeBSD with 1 IPv4 and 2 IPv6 with $ 0.95?
Is there FreeBSD 9.0 already?
Thank you.
No. For 0.95$ you get 0 IPv4 + 5 IPv6 IPs per VDS server. This page lists IPv6 VDS plans: http://vds6.net/de6/
We are currently running FreeBSD 8.2. No FreeBSD 9 yet in our case. But the upgrade from 8 to 9 might be possible in the future.
In Ukraine we will be running plans with 1 IPv4 + 2 IPv6 with different price. It will be a little bit more expansive compared to IPv6 plans in Germany.
Thank you.
@VDS6
Thank you for information, I’m waiting for plans in Ukraine to compare and so, choose one. :)
Regards.
We are considering to start from 2.95$ for 128Mb VDS plan with 1 IPv4 and 2 IPv6 IPs. It’s going to have 128Mb of RAM + 128Mb or real Xen-like swap. This plan is already available for order from our billing, but price might change. This plan might become cheaper.
Thank you.
As promised: http://vds6.net/ua46/
FreeBSD Jails in Ukraine with IPv4 and IPv6 IPs on board. Enjoy.
We will also have some promo codes available for “deep” discounts some time soon.
Resellers are welcomed. Resellers may also get discounts – email sales.
Thank you.
It’s great to hear about this location however announcement about “deep” discounts some time soon isn’t that great in some way because lowendboxers will rather wait for those discounts now so I suggesting you to start with :P
Those who are interested will wait. Those who do not want to wait will buy some place else. Simple rule of hosting market. We have nowhere to rush.
Thanks.
You don’t read carefully. Those who are interested will wait – that’s exactly my point :P You announced discounts and now most of us will wait announced discounts rather than order it now.
My bad. We will post discount coupons some time soon.
Thanks.
Let’s start with a simple 50% first month discount on all packages in Ukrainian datacenter. If you use coupon code LEB50OFF you get 50% off first month in Ukraine on all packages on this page – http://vds6.net/ua46/
Thank you.
Will you guys add lamp/famp options?
Nope. We are not planing to add them as our setup works in such way that we would need to update this template each time new software comes out.
As we are a budget provider, we concentrate on minimizing the time spent on supporting Operation System templates and rebuilding them each time new software or a new version comes out.
On the other hand we can add an article “How to setup fAMP on FreeBSD” to the knowledge base inside our billing system. But actually combination Nginx, PHP, MySQL would work better than Apache, PHP, MySQL.
Thank you.
That would actually be great, lighttpd/nginx guides are nice.
Having some trouble with ipv6.
We will add howto some time soon.
We have IPv4 VDS plans if you struggle with IPv6. http://vds6.net/ua46/
Thanks.
tun/tap enabled for private VPN use?
No. Quote from our main page.
Q: Is IRC allowed? What is NOT going to work on you VDS/VPS?
A: Yes, IRC is allowed. Tun/tap/fuse/ppp interfaces, any OpenVPN, PPTP… VPN setups, are NOT going to work on your VDS/VPS.
Hello again.
Because many people asked what they can run instead of VPN server on their IPv4 FreeBSD VDS, we have created a small tutorial about light and easy proxy server – 3proxy
You can find this tutorial here: http://wiki.vds6.net/3proxy
Enjoy!
Hello.
Because some of our clients faced problems running some Linux applications in FreeBSD we added an article to our wiki: http://wiki.vds6.net/Linux-emulators
Steps explained in this article will help you to overcome “ELF interpreter /lib/ld-linux.so.2 not found” error in FreeBSD.
Enjoy.
Linux KVM and OpenVZ VDS/VPS now available in Russian datacenter.
All plans in Russian datacenter come with unmetered bandwidth, free control panel and ability to order additional IPv4 and IPv6 IPs.
KVM – http://vds6.net/kvmru46/
OpenVZ – http://vds6.net/ru46/
Discounts available with promo codes mentioned on our website.
Enjoy!
Maybe I overlooked something however I can’t see anything in LEB range regarding your .ru offer and if that’s true you’re on wrong place to advertize new non LEB offers.
i agree get out of here
Our OpenVZ/BSD Jail VDS/VPS offer in russian datacenter falls right under 7$ rule of LEB with promo code 3$ off.
That’s one month discount?
Hello.
Yes, this discount is for 1 month of service only.
Thank you and have a good day.
Again.. this what you offer here is against lowendbox.com rules. It’s not lowendbox offer and as such should not be posted here. Post either 7$ or less recurring offer or don’t post offers at all here, please.
This service is often down. Don’t use it.
Keep away from those morons, i bought his shitty vps and run ircd they suspend it and asked me to send to him $30 and unsuspend it, after that i have not runned anything and said that i will not pay $30 so they suspend it again without any reason. Here are tickets log below:
From:dren drenushi – 2013-07-18 04:00:27
Hello,
May i know why is my server suspended, and noone email to know the reason?

Your ticket has been assigned to the “Sales department” department. Await a response.
The category has been changed from “VDS/VPS hosting questions (24/7 – answer time:Best effort)” into “Sales and finance questions (M-F, 9am – 5pm, EDT/EST)”

Terms of service violation. Paragraph 4.2.
Submit 30$ payment and we will resume your vds.
Thank you.

Hi,
Well this is really a stupid term with a non sense, however i will not pay $30 for nothing.
From:Igor K. – 2013-07-18 10:15:05
No problem. Service suspended for term of service violation.
Have a good day.

Why the hell did you suspend it if i dont run any ircd anynore fucking moron?
So they close the ticket and ignoring me without explaintation.
SCAMMERS
People who use “f* moron” language in our ticket system get special attention – ignorance. You got exactly that.
(Terms of service violation. Paragraph 4.2. Submit 30$ payment and we will resume your vds.) <– this answers all your questions.
If you do not agree to pay that, move on.
Have a good day.

As i said before, the f** moron as you exactly are i have said on the last ticket. When you unsuspend the vps i was not runned any ircd or anything. All what i said is that i will not pay $30 and after that you suspend again as you can see on logs from tickets below.
And yes you are a fucking moron.
NOTE: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS MORON!
I am trying out an IPv6 only Ukraine bsd jail. It works fine. I did have to add IPv6 nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf on the jail. It now looks like this:
scottlinux# vim /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
nameserver 2001:4860:4860::8888
nameserver 2001:4860:4860::8844
The latency to me (in US) is very high as I guess you would expect with the distance.
