EDIS are a long time host and are one of few LEB friendly hosts that use vServer (a VM system similar to OpenVZ) and run their own panel. This means that they are very familiar with the technology and have a very stable platform (shown by the fact that they scored very highly in the last Top Providers poll).
Disclaimer:
I am in no way affiliated with EDIS. This review was performed on a purchased VPS so results should be fairly accurate in comparison to real world cases.
Basics:
The VPS plan is based in Germany and comes with 256 MB of RAM, 1 TB of bandwidth (monthly) and 5 GB of disk space. vServer plans are managed by a custom control panel exclusive to EDIS (with SSL) and include commonly used templates such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora (mostly in both 32 and 64 bit variants). I tried to find an AUP for EDIS but it seems to be very hard to find but after emailing staff they forwarded me their polices, pasted below this section. Finally, the EDIS home page is laid out fairly logically and is available in both English and German (as is the panel). Unfortunately the panel is lacking in features compared to commonly used panels such as SolusVM and you’ll miss settings such as rDNS, root password changes, an API and the ability to halt the server.
Private VPNs and proxys are allowed in all locations
IRC is allowed, at DDoS your contract might be cancelled – Linked IRCds are not allowed (network does not matter) – IRC is not allowed alltogether in Italy, Servers are not allowed in the USA
Torrents are allowed if the content is legal or it does not get abuse – Do NOT use Germany, Switzerland and USA for torrents.
Tor is not allowed in any location, exit will never be allowed – entry/middle are currently not allowed since they have a DDoS exploit which can be used by anyone to send large spoofing attacks.
Support:
It took about 16 hours to go through four pre-sales questions, then server was provisioned and setup within 5 minutes of actually ordering. The welcome emails contained all information necessary to get up and running with the VPS but unfortunately contained the account password and VPS passwords (something I consider a security risk). Also, a ticket requesting information on new locations was sent in via their contact form and it was responded to within an hour with relevant information.
Setup:
Once my VPS was setup I proceeded to install Debian 6 as normal (installing nothing but the SSH server). After it was installed I used Minstall to clean out any unneeded packages and to set up SSH login protection. The setup went without a hitch (minus a small patch to Minstall for it to support vServer)!

Conclusion:
In conclusion I believe that EDIS are a great host with great performance. The pricing is low but judging on my experience with support staff the cost is not representative of the excellent response times and performance. Their panel is slightly lacking but the average user will have no trouble using it to get their VPS up and running! I would highly recommend EDIS (especially for European clients) as they seem to be highly experienced and provide their users with a lot of power.
Please give EDIS a try and report on findings! Thanks for reading, tips and suggestions are appreciated!

No IPv6? What’s up with that?
It’s for the vServer. We can get IPv6 if we buy the KVM :)
IPv6 support in Linux-VServer is very basic and unstable (requires patches, which in turn requires then that we can’t update vServer until a new patch is released….) – KVM has v6 :)
24 cores @_@ What if some abusing all of these CPU cores :O
Depends on how long, if it is all the time the VPS will be limited to 1-4 cores.

Heard good things about these guys, looks half decent so far.
Nice to see some good providers still out there.
>> looks half decent so far.
Hi Paul,
you should give us a try. Maybe we are even more than “half” decent (51% ;-)
Cheers and have a good one,
Gerhard
I am sure they are fully decent, from my own experience too :)
often heard people mentioned about Minstall
what about it actually ? a package to remove all unnecessary stuff ?
how do i get it ?
github.com/maxexcloo/Minstall
It removes unnecessary stuff from a stock Debian distro (and maybe some others), replaces apache with nginx, and a few other things iirc.
thanks :)
I have not posted on here for ages, but I just wanted to say that the support I have received from EDIS has been second to none. No problems with the server, just me making strange requests and every time quick responses.
Agree, they are very good. Unstability on their first (?) .se node, but moved to new now, hopefully fixed.
Else, I have 0 compaints.
My .at is a rock (..up 144 days, 20:52 .. :) and .is looks same deal.
Also, I wouldn’t say their CP is lacking much, I like it. RDNS is ticket on most of my Solus’ anyhow, so.. Fantastic and unique provider :)
I’m still waiting for HongKong :-)
Great provider.
I am their 256MB KVM user @CH for about 4 months. Totally satisfied.
They have got 3 more clients via me. ;)
I have SE KVM, Completly satisfied. They’re great!

Has anybody managed to get Zeroshell running on a KVM?
They allow you to boot from it but Zeroshell doesnt let me assign an ip.
it doesnt recognize the nic, so i doubt that anybody can do more than boot it (at the kvm) ?
Likely, since we have no official support for that distro (it was added on a customer request) we can’t really provider any help for it.
How much do you charge for additional ip addresses and how can i get some?
I dont see an option to order them.
Never mind, i am stupid.
It is right there when signing up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
EDIS is quite good but there are big differences between the locations/nodes.
I actually have four VPS and Graz is the best place.
I probably will take some more later this year in locations where I don’t have a VPS yet.
Are the VPS also powered by “100% heimischer Wasserkraft” like the dedicated servers?
Yes, in Austria only however – by best guess most others are mainly nuclear powered.
Any plans to offer KVM + SSD?
And one of your support guys told me you plan to phase out VRS, any timescale for that? And what happens to those of us who have VRS services? :)
Hi,
No, SSD will likely be outphased, VRS will be likely stay for current customers (and likely also be sold in future, but maybe other OS base).
Hi,
I recently purchased VRS ADVANCED SSD based on this review ie., july 20,2012 and had a disk I/O ranging from 80-84 MB/s, then shifted to KVM basic and to my surprise the disk i/o was around 15-22 MB/s, and it was very slow. This was in swiss server. Still waiting for their reply and it’s almost 48 hours till now no reply. Anyhow it looks like I lost 10.99 euros based on this review.
the following results are of KVM basic plan disk I/O:
Hi,
I reverted back to VRS ADVANCED SSD and they provided me a new node.
The results of the dis I/O is as follows
Is this the average SSD speed with other vendors?
The cachefly test showed
> oflag=dsync
why would use that? Try canonical
dd if=/dev/zero of=iotest bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
[root@ss1 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=1M count=1k oflag=dsync;rm -f test
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 10.8771 s, 98.7 MB/s
[root@ss1 ~]#
Your find most people dont use dsync, the normal command is something like this;
[root@ss1 ~]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/home/output.img bs=8k count=256k
262144+0 records in
262144+0 records out
2147483648 bytes (2.1 GB) copied, 3.83426 s, 560 MB/s
Give that a try instead of dd dysnc
I tried with breton’s command the result is
And with mvpsSimon’s command the result is
Anyhow, the performance is ok.
I’ve been looking to get a small VPS at EDIS, but I am in doubt about a small detail: does the VPS get iptables or is the firewall exclusive to the web interface they talk about in the product page?
I really need iptables for my own scripts which dynamically allow or block some ips.
Just want to update anyone who may read this, I have contacted EDIS and they have informed me that iptables is not available on vServer.
Therefore I will need to look for something else (they do have KVM which *should* support those modules).
KVM does certainly :)
Hey all,
I just want to say, I’m 100% happy with EDIS. It’s just a super amazing host, I purchased a server from them 1 month ago, and I haven’t had a single, yes a single problem with them, not even a second of downtime, for the price, I’m very very very impressed! Speechless.
Kind Regards,
Mike
can run torrent for private tracker ??
If you get abuse no, else we can’t monitor your traffic anyway.. so take a guess :)
(Also, not in the USA)
Well i am a customer of EDIS for almost full month, and i have really important thing to add to this. Their vServer VPS’s are shared and monitored for abuse. But, architecture of vServer virtualization does not include I/O allocation and control, so if any customer run some HDD intensive task effectively slow whole server. And that happens few times a day(customer backup i presume). Servers are powerfull and this has only minor impact on performance. Biggest problem is guaranteed downtime every 24h of about 5-15min. Starts around 00:40 CET and finish about 20min lather. Load goes above 100 for ~20min and I/O is around 70% used. Impact on hosted sites are in some cases waiting for 10-20 sec to load or complete downtime. Other than that i have no other complains and as i understand this is normal and not going to change. I do have monitoring that can prove all of this. I have VPS’s in multiple locations and it is same. Also on new site i see no guarantee of uptime…
That is not entirely true. They do have a lot abusers, but also some new system where abuse can’t be longer than 60 sec, and offending box is being restarted. For a week i had no problems with slow io.
My experience with edis is all but good. I would never ever recommend them to anyone!
Here is the story:
I ordered a VPS on 1st of Mars. It took them over 24h hours to deliver. I even had the time to send them a mail asking whats going on.
I didnt have the time to start using the vps due to other stuff coming up for me, but sometime around the 20th of Mars, i started using it.
I noticed immediate that my vps was rebooted frequently. Asking them, i sent them an email.
Example:
reboot system boot 3.2.0-4-amd64 Fri Mar 21 22:03 – 22:06 (00:03)
reboot system boot 3.2.0-4-amd64 Fri Mar 21 14:58 – 22:06 (07:08)
reboot system boot 3.2.0-4-amd64 Fri Mar 21 02:20 – 22:06 (19:45)
reboot system boot 3.2.0-4-amd64 Thu Mar 20 07:34 – 22:06 (1+14:31)
Reciving an automaed mail from them saying “we currently have issues on one of our hostnodes in Amsterdam.”
Replying to them that my vps is located in Sweden…
Mails continue on the 23rd at 11am.. “Its been down now for a long time and i can not connect currently, and i have not been for 30 minutes. What is going on, why is there no information on the status page?”
No reply during the day, another mail is sent from me at 9+PM
“Still problems, loosing connection, >50% packetloss, no information, no reply from you, what the hell is going on?!”
Getting really frustraded, having no information this continues…
On the 25th, i recieve an email
“Dear customer,
do the issues still persist? They should’ve been fixed already.”
Ofcourse, its still not fixed. I even asked to get compensated for the downtime. No reply to thoose emails.
On the 26th, its time again. Machine is offline. Sending them both traceroutes from multiple locations showing its impossible to reach the machine, i recieve a late reply
“Hello,
I reset your VPS using _your_ VPS admin-panel – looks like the instance got stuck.
