Kenneth, from Virpus, has emailed us a few Xen PV offers that they’re offering on yearly terms.
512MB Xen Plan
| 1024 MB Xen Plan
|
Virpus have been featured regularly on LowEndBox since January 2010. Their last offer on here was posted back in September when they were advertising a $4.50 512MB Xen VPS in Kansas City. Reviews were mixed – so I suggest you take a look and have a read for yourself. Nodes are utilizing the E5-2620 CPU, hardware RAID 10 and have 64GB of RAM. The offer will end on the 31st December (New Years Eve).
Virpus offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee and provision virtual servers once the customer has passed any fraud tests. Unlike their last offer, this time around they’re not including DirectAdmin for free but they will license it at a monthly rate of $7/mo, and will license cPanel at $12/mo. You would need to open a support ticket at their helpdesk to get this setup (by default, their order form would bill you yearly). Further information can be ascertained by reading their Terms of Service and their Privacy Policy.

From their ToS:
“Bandwidth Overages. At the end of your billing period and as well as periodic bandwidth checks, Virpus Networks will take an analysis of your server or VPS. If at that time you are found to be over your bandwidth, Virpus Networks will send you notice of these overages. Note that all overages will be charged $.50/GB that you went over.”
Is there any option to avoid these charges?
I need Los Angeles :)
Check Hostigation, best out there.
Very attractive offers.
Unfortunately, the previous feedbacks indicate not good quality of service. Probably, better to let it go.
terrible reputation, wouldn’t recommend
slowest nodes ive ever used i defo wont go back there
Terrible, ridiculous, basted,
crap service/node stay away
Worst Low End provider I have used. Steer Clear.
Had a vps with them. Lots of downtime and it was unusably slow.
absolute rubbish, AVOID!
had openvz vps with them and it was the worst vps i ever own
My Virpus ran quite nice for a long time until the I/O got raped so badly that yum update was seriously impossible…
Had a node with them last year. When it was online, it was unusably slow and sat unused after the first couple of months of trying to recoup at least some of the cost.
Last year have one in kansas, stay one month,Dec 2012,give it a try in L.A ,will not subscribe next month.
STAY AWAY FROM VIRPUS! BAD ADMIN! SARCASTIC TECHNICAL SUPPORT! CRAP NODE!
Man you guys dont like virpus, lol. Ive got one of their $4.50 Xen VPS’s.. Only issue ive had with it so far was it was down for about 5 hours longer than expected during an expected, and notified power upgrade. Other than that, I havent really had any issues. Their Control Panel does leave a little to be desired, and can be somewhat cryptic until you get used to it, but service wise, I haven’t had any serious issues. All support tickets ive opened have been replied to promptly, and courteously. Some performance metrics:

So, as always i guess, YMMV.
Ordered a VPS on Saturday after reading their “Instant Activation” claims.
After 4 hours, I’ve opened a ticket and without any reply, someone moved it onto sales. Did the same, same result. Tried ringing them, the phone was constanly engaged. Tried to e-mail them, the e-mail bounced. Today, Tuesday I get a reply saying they have now setup my VPS and that they do not offer any refund. Some story about not working during weekend. If they do not work, they should not make claims of “Instant Actication”.
In my opinion, this company is out to take care of themselves, instead of their customers. Offer cheap VPS, get people to sign up and run with the money.
service by hiring almost two days ….
bad support …..
vps slow, slow, slow
no money back
not advise it for anything
Ordered service for los angeles VPS, all paid in 1 hour. 10 calendar days later, 2 high priority tickets, server NOT up! Stay away ppl. I wish I could get my $$ back. The server never started, ever. I just paid, and they took my money.
:(
If their “senoir admins” ever get back to me, I’ll post again.
I can’t say that I would recommend this company. I got the 512 Xen VPS in this post a while back. Out of the gate, there were issues with the server not staying booted. I was not the only user experiencing this. The response was that it was fixed a couple of times, so I just gave it up for about a week. No time without service credits or anything was issued that I could see.
Second thing that happened was I had trouble with the server services not staying up. It was strange, because on the same OS, same procedure to set up the BIND, HTTPD, etc., worked on another host provider, as well as a box here at my office. That rules out misconfiguration, as I reinstalled a few times, and started fresh to see if I goofed something up.
The third thing I noticed, is performance slowed down on the VPS. Sometimes when I typed a character in putty, it took about 15 seconds for each character to show up. When I checked CPU usage and memory usage, everything looked as normal as could be. When I used freshclam on this server, it took over an hour to update, when it only took my other host 15 minutes or less.
The final nail in the coffin was when I went back and read reviews of the company on lowendbox. I read the reviews before purchase, but I figured it was so cheap that I would give them a shot since they claimed it was THE USER’S fault that they were not satisfied in many of their responses. They placed the onus on the user not accepting their policies, not submitting a ticket, etc. Plenty of excuses. Well…. I thought at first I was going to have a nice VPS, that the other people here were idiots, but I was wrong.
I had Virpus stop the invoicing on the next round, as “cancellation,” requesting that they make it effective immediately if the thing could be refunded or credited. I get a note from the server, saying to submit a ticket for refund or credit just as soon as I submit the cancellation request. I follow the email message’s directions to submit a ticket, and surprise, the ticket response is basically “no.” I then provide them with what their server emailed me, and they responded “but you requested it as/of the end of your billing cycle.”
So the ladies and gents who negatively reviewed Virpus was CORRECT in the end. There is a serious lack of support, or rather, personable support. I would have loved for someone to have said “why are you cancelling, anything we can do to help?” or “oops, our server emailed you something incorrectly” or “oops, we didn’t read your message, sorry about that, let me fix it properly.” Instead, I receive short responses that do nothing to reduce the root cause of my issue being raised.
I’m very happy with my new host, PhoenixVPS. It may cost more, but hey, I get very personable people who seem to care a bit more about the customer base.
Quick update… Jeremy at Virpus seems to respond only to argue and tell me how I am wrong, referencing an email that he sent to me at cancellation… However, the core of what I am telling him at this particular moment is in what the server sent to me automatically at that time, not done by a human being. I’m not sure why he didn’t go back and read what I forwarded to them from the server. I guess it has something to do with the culture within the company….
So I had contact with Kenneth (the CEO), and he also refused to provide an account credit, though both the TOS and the auto-generated email said that I would qualify. As I first suspected, refusal to issue a credit shows that Virpus is not interested in keeping customers.
At this time, it is greater than 45 days out, so I cannot request a paypal dispute. Even if I did, I realized, Virpus has a $70 fee for chargebacks, so they can screw me either way. Buyer BEWARE!
A little warning: really bad customer support and customer-unfriendly terms. I.e. I wanted to cancel a service after the already paid period, so I hit the cancel-button. The service was cancelled immediately, so my already paid money is lost. They wrote that, if the cancelling was an accident, one should open a ticket, so they cancel the cancellation. I did this. Answer: “Sorry, too late. We keep your money”. They insist on their no refund policy.
well…. just wonder if your customer service is going to answer my ticket or not. It has been 48 hours.
I need Los Angeles :)
do not buy the vps from this website.myvirpus.com. bad service. if you buy the vps from them. if you dont want the vps. they do not refund the money back to you. fuck. bad vps
I have been using them for 3 years and I only have had a couple of issues. The VPS itself was always reliable, but when something did go wrong, the customer service wasn’t the best. Would I use this service for a paying clients? NO! But as a remote testing server/development sever they are fine.
Virpus is a fraud
I Pay a VPS and they did not deliver it to me. Virpus is a fraud.
Do not buy from them. They will take your money.
For your own sake don’t go near them!
Watch out for this scam company!
