Michael, from VMhosts, wrote to us recently to tell us about the improvements that they’ve made, to their service, since we last featured them.

VMhosts has been UK registered company since July 2010. They have only been featured once before and that was in January 2012. Even though the post didn’t receive many comments, one customer wrote a short review on their service. Their website also has some reviews, but obviously only positive things would be published by themselves… The main improvements to their service has been the upgrade of their storage network to 10Gbps courtesy of their ‘highly available’ clustered storage array which now has ‘SSD Hardware based Auto Tiering’. More information about this can be found on their dedicated VM page or their SSD tier page.
VMhosts provide a full 14 Day money back guarantee. VAT is applicable for EU based customers who are not VAT registered. Additional IPv4 addresses (a maximum of three) can be purchased for £2 per month. Michael explains that any legal activities are permitted but I would double check their terms if you’re unsure. Further information can be ascertained from their Terms of Service.

“Auto tier” ¬_¬
So, better to say SSD cached, because that weird term is only used in their site apparently…
Auto Tiering is an industry recognised term, maybe more apparent with enterprise solutions though. Essentially all writes are send to the SSD layer and hot zones of data are migrated to the SSD layer as required. This results in low latency access for random IO workloads.
This allows us to provide higher capacity and optimise only the data which requires SSD. Keeping our costs low
Indeed :P
After some research I found more info about that.
Hmm..no Ubuntu and Debian on templates list?? :-/
The available template list is extensive, not all of them have been added into the WHMCS billing system as we need to test the hot migrate functionality before we approve them. If there is a particular Linux template you need please send us an email to support @ VMhosts .co.uk and we be happy to help

That price includes VAT. When your at checkout, change the country and the VAT will disappear (VAT is applicable for EU based customers who are not VAT registered.) and the price above will be correct
What CPU’s do you use?
Hi Jack
We use AMD opteron CPU’s on this cluster
Test IP belongs to Connexions4london Ltd. I didn’t get any relation between BlueSquare and Connexions4london Ltd !
C4L are our network provider. They maintain the connectivity for us out of Bluesquare, which is now a Pulsant site.
Network Test from my 2 VPS at URPAD:
On LA VPS, I get 10 MBPS and on Chicago VPS, I get 28 MBPS from US Locations !
10MBPS -> 100Mbps or there about :)
Is your Test VPS box’s port capped to 100 Mbps ??
Test connection isn’t capped as it is running other services. Its just to give you an idea of the bandwidth available. We use Gb uplinks, so anything up to this speed will be possible but please remember other bottlenecks out of our control may exist between us and you.
All LEB VM’s are capped at 100Mbps
