    you can do better then this place;
    their support team is incompetent.
the price may look nice, but you really get what you pay for with these guys.
my advice it to look elsewhere.

    • Can you please validate your post and show proof you were a client? This is definitely not true and we have many happy clients who commented in this very own LEB listing. As such, I’d love a form of proof that you are/were actually a customer, anything will work including invoice ID!

      Awaiting your reply.

This is definitely not my experience with cvps. The times I’ve had to send in support emails, they were responded to in less than a half hour, often times less than 10 minutes, and issue resolved. I don’t know if you were an actual customer or not, but I’ve had 4 vps’s through them, and have never seen anything resembling incompetence. Even when I submitted support tickets that ended up being something stupid I did, they took the time to fix it, or help me fix it.

  3. Thanks Zahra, we appreciate your time! If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask, ChicagoVPS representatives are standing by eager to assist you!

I’ve used ChicagoVPS hosting for well over a year now, and their service is everything you expect from a host and more. They are quick to respond to tickets and have a quality service. If you’re trying to decide if you should get this or not, get it and you won’t be disappointed.

P.S. I’m not affiliated with them in any way, just love having a reliable host.

    Hi there,

Can I please know how much per year for enterprise plan.
I apply promo code including cpanel and it shows 34.95/monthly.

Do you include installation of cpanel or do I have to DIY…

    Thanks.

I have no idea how you guys can afford these types of prices, but definitely a steal of a deal. Been a CVPS customer for 2 years now, and other than the brief issues last year (I lost no data thanks to CVSP central backup), my service has been perfect. Keep it up!

    April 16, 2013 @ 12:19 am
    • Thank you very much for the kind words! Because we purchase hardware in bulk and have negotiated excellent deals with our partners, we’re able to pass the savings down to our customers and provide quality VPS services at unbeatable prices!

Let us know if you ever need anything, thanks for choosing ChicagoVPS.

  9. Please note that we offer optional control panels for the convenience of our customers! We have a Kloxo OS template which can be reinstalled from our VPS control panel at no cost.

Additionally, discounted cPanel/WHM is available to all packages with the exception of the “Basic” plan – just $10/month for cPanel/WHM! Unbeatable price you won’t find elsewhere at any distributor, retailer, or VPS provider! We also offer DirectAdmin for $5/month.

ChicagoVPS clients have yet another advantage! ChicagoVPS is a certified partner with WHMCS and as such we are able to offer you discounted WHMCS licenses! Any ChicagoVPS client is entitled to purchase WHMCS branded license for $13.95/month – much cheaper compared to the retail rate at whmcs.com. Just send in a ticket to billing if you wish purchase this.

All the more reason that ChicagoVPS is the clear cut choice, offering unbeatable perks to our customers such as free monitoring, free Mohawk voice server, free central backups, free weekly node-wide backups, discounted control panel licenses, 24×7 support, and so much more all while providing unmatched VPS prices and quality!

Let us know if anyone has any questions, we’re happy to assist.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    April 16, 2013 @ 1:27 am
    • I’m seriously considering buy one of these. The only thing holding back is this: Cpanel/WHM is $10, instead of current market price of $14.95. However, Softaculous is at $4 instead of $1.5 which is what Softaculous itself offers it for.

      Qns:

      1. Why the disparity? Can you match the price?
      2. If I buy a Quarterly or Yearly VPS, can I still pay for Cpanel/WHM and Softaculous on a monthly basis?
      3. Are these cpanel/WHM packs offered only as part of ordering a VPS? ;)

Seriously, I need to get rid of some of the VPSes I’ve purchased! But maintaining my current open source control panel is taking more toll on my time, and I’m planning to switch to cpanel. These definitely are a great price for cpanel.

      April 16, 2013 @ 3:17 am
      • Joel,

We can offer Softaculous for $1.50/month for you! Please open a sales ticket after your order and we’ll get this taken care of for you.

Regarding #2 yes you can pay for cPanel/WHM and Softaculous monthly, that will not be an issue.

Let us know if you have any additional questions!

        Regards,

        Kevin

        April 16, 2013 @ 3:32 am
        • Thanks Kevin. I tested the speeds and was impressed by some of the locations. However for budgetary reasons I will have to take a raincheck and continue my current 6 month plan of VPS. Hopefully at the end of that time, CVPS will still be offering good plans here, and I may be able to come aboard. Thanks for your positive response to my queries.

      Thanks,

      Kevin

  11. technologix:

Any chance of getting ubuntu 12.04 added to the template list?

    April 16, 2013 @ 1:56 am
    • We do have 12.04 templates. The reason why we do not offer it in the public ordering form is because not all of our nodes support 12.04 yet. We are still working on upgrading the nodes that do not support it to 2.6.32 kernels which do. The majority of our nodes now support it, so there is a 95% chance your VPS will be set up on a node that supports it. So just order with any OS in the order form, then after your order you can reinstall to 12.04 from the VPS control panel (SolusVM).

If you somehow do not see the option to reinstall it to 12.04 from SolusVM after your order, just open a ticket and we’ll move your VPS over to a node that supports 12.04.

      Thanks,

      Kevin

  13. One more question. I’d like to set up my own private nameservers? Is it possible to provide two additional IPv4? What would it cost?

    April 16, 2013 @ 3:20 am
    • Yes you can set up your own nameservers. We generally offer additional IP’s for $2/month additional, however open a ticket to sales and reference this LEB post, we can discount this to just $1.40/month exclusively for LEB readers!

      Thanks for the interest,

      Kevin

  14. More questions?

    1. Can you provide test files on each of these locations to make an assessment of network speeds?
    2. What is the CPU spec of these servers? Freq and cores?
    3. What is your policy on policy share on fair share of CPUs? What do you consider a limit for CPU usage in terms of cores and time used?

Yes I have too many questions, but considering an annual plan is different from buying a monthly VPS and discarding it if dissatisfied. ;)

    April 16, 2013 @ 3:48 am
    • Hi Joel,

Please email sales@chicagovps.net and we’ll get the test files for you.

These VPS are powered by blazing fast Intel Xeon Ivybridge E3-1240v2 3.40 GHz processors, all plans except for the Basic plan receive 4 CPU cores on fair share, we ask that you keep your CPU usage reasonable and do not use it in a way that would interrupt other neighbors on the same host node as you. As long as you keep your VPS’s server load average under 7.00 for the most part (we don’t mind if you burst over for a few minutes), then you shouldn’t have an issue.

We appreciate the opportunity you have given us.

      – Kevin

Isn’t a load of 7.00 already overloading the cpu since only 4 cores are alloted?

I will ensure this is properly taken care of by tonight.

  17. I currently have a couple servers with ChicagoVPS and so far it has been good. Had one incident last week where I was getting less than 10 iops on one of my servers. I contacted support and they told me to purchase a dedicated server…(which I know I don’t want/need) Luckily a few days later everything was fixed up and its been great since! I run a Minecraft server and it’s always up!

    April 16, 2013 @ 12:53 pm
    • Strange, that shouldn’t be happening, I will be talking to our techs about this as all of our servers are monitored by our monitoring systems and should never fall to 10 iops, perhaps raid was rebuilding after a drive replacement.

Nonetheless, I’m glad to hear your problems were all resolved and glad that you’re happy!

Let us know if you need anything else.

      Thanks,

  25. Old Timer:

    Eh, not these guys again.

Does no one care that they had a database leak that was never properly addressed? I was one of the customers in that leak, had my VPS hacked. Before the database was made public it appears hackers were unhashing the easier passwords (my fault, I know) and logging into their SolusVM accounts to delete VPS data / rebuilding them. They changed my hostname to something like ‘lololugothacked’ or something like that. I have since left.

I never saw them properly address this. I know they did a password reset for everyone because I got the email but they never said WHY they did this (‘security’ measure) and they never mentioned that other accounts that use the same password should be changed too (like your email account). I changed my email account password but since my email address was in the database I’ve gotten so much more spam. I’d imagine all IPs in the database leak are still being subject to random attacks too. From what I understand it looks like only those using LastPass (saw the message on lowendtalk) got the ‘full’ message, and to this date they still havent given a report on the breach or really done anything in the way of saying how they will prevent future ones.

Aside that I fully do not trust this company, not what they say or what they do. It seems like it’s ran by a couple kids. Im sure it is not, but they lack professionalism for sure. The owner can’t even type a proper sentance leading me to believe he’s just a teenager, or maybe just a dumb adult. The performance was okay, at best. I mean, it’s just a cheap VPS so you get what you pay for. Uptime wasn’t bad though. Support was never really used but I had a sales ticket that took a day or two to get to, though I think the explanationw as it was the weekend. Understandable, but the owner who responded types like he outsourced his job to india (haha).

    Before the attack/leak: 7/10
    After the attack/leak: 2/10

In short, I don’t like their dishonesty. I read a lot about ChicagoVPS after the leak because I was really concerned. Was this my fault for not doing proper research before signing up? Were they a high risk company that I failed to recognize prior to registering last year? I’ve found a lot of information that leads me to believe that they’re quite dishonest and non-genuine.

Seems since the attack the performance is better, I read they had like 200 servers on each node so after that came public they likely put less on each node now. That is good. But do I trust them with my data? No, not at all.

If you’re unfamliar with them, do some Googling and make your own judgement.

Anyhow, my search for a 3rd ‘low end box’ continues, but as I saw this on the front page I felt compelled to take a moment to warn others to think before signing up.

Been a customer since late 2011. Usually been happy with service, yes I lost data a few months ago but just restored from central backup. Support was poor before Jeramiah left but seems good now. There’s better services around, but not for these prices. The service always exceeds my expectations for the price.

Sorry, I know nothing about VPS etc. I just want to get a JSP site running under tomcat – the price here is very reasonable, but I will need *noob* help in getting the first “Hello” jsp page going. Will that be catered to?

So it seems my comment from yesterday was deleted. Cool stuff.

I said something along the lines that you could do better finding another provider here. ChicagoVPS isn’t known for their customer service. Just look around the web.

Yup, got a black friday vps deal with them. It was terrible right from the start. Came back here and slickdeals and read the horror stories from several people. Learned about all the points Pub Crawler talks about (some didn’t happen until later in 2013) and promptly asked for a refund. They denied it of course and I ended up having to do a chargeback to get my money back. Thankfully when I asked for a refund they decided it was smart to cancel my server for me at the same time, made the chargeback easier.

In short: Terrible company, terrible polices, Owner “Chris” is arrogant, and the list goes on. Really, Google it. The post at the PHX2600 forums is a funny read too.

OK, I order one buffalo vps, they give me an ipaddress 198.46.156.xxx, I dont understand why! they tell me if I order chicago “we can get all kinds of IP ranges.” So I order a chicago vps again, holy shit! the new chicago vps ipaddress also 198.46.156.xxx!! I ask them why, they tell me

“That IP range is in Chicago and your VPS is in chicago. The ranges are about the same in Buffalo at this moment.”

FxCK…Chicago and Buffalo are same place?? and the two vps on same node.

Luc Ayotte and Kevin Hillstrand, can you tell me more about above?? why the chicago and buffalo vps on same node? play me?

    the last reply
“Why did you selected Chicago for the location for your Buffalo node?”

god!! save me! I bought more than 60+ VPS, But today I am idiot!

    April 17, 2013 @ 6:23 pm
    • Johnhooo,

Buffalo and Chicago are certainly not the same place, if you are from the US you should know that Buffalo is in New York while Chicago is in Illinois, both are in different states and on different coasts of the United States.

Running a traceroute can identify your server location, however please supply me with a ticket ID so I can investigate your case further and work with you to reach a resolution.

      I appreciate your time!

      Thanks,

      Kevin

  34. Even though I only grabbed their Exclusive package yesterday, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with CVPS. Their support staff is quick to respond to tickets, and even offered to image my VPS with an OS (Arch) that they don’t officially support anymore (I specifically inquired about Arch as I know Arch like the back of my hand).

    Bravo.

I was waiting for another special and you all came through with another great one. I just signed up again. This will be my forth service in the past 2 years. I’m trying the Atlanta service this time since it is a bit closer to me and hope to get better pings.

Let me know if you open service at the Ashville, NC data center. It’s in my back yard :)

I’ve only had to request support a few times. It has always been handled timely and sometimes within minutes.

Keep up the good work guys and thank you for cheap and reliable vps service.

I have been a CVPS customer for 6-8 months or so now, I have at least 3-4 VPS with them, and have referred several people. The one time I had an issue, Chris F. took care of me wonderfully. Their support is helpful, and quick, and I have had *very few* issues with them. I have had considerably more issues with other providers, but Im not going to name names here. I would say I get a lot more than what I pay for with CVPS. I am actually looking at dropping a few of the other hosts I use, and picking up another CVPS vps.

I have honestly not needed to contact support too much with ChicagoVPS. When I did have to though, they diligently worked on my problems.

Well, I don’t agree with you, I’m using there exclusive plan and have an amazing speed to East China, ping ranges from 140ms to 220ms depending on time.

At first, they had some issues on my node, and my VPS was rebooted everyday, ever since they moved me to another node, things went fine, and I’m happy with my VPS now.

BTW, they responded quickly on my tickets.

  41. I ahve been a customer for about two years. Yes, I lost everything with the VPS hack. Was a PITA, but they were supportive. I don’t trust anyone with my data or services – not even amazon – so I had offline restores available and was back in action shortly. Save for a flakey disk controller in the beginning – they’ve been fine since and a great value. I just bought two more of the enterpise VPSs. nice!

I tried few VPS providers , Chicago VPS i found the best.

It is cheap, support is an average, server is fine.
For all this time at some stage they have had a problem with connection cable, causing server to stop or to be slow, but they fixed it. it was a bit frustrating but after that everything is fast and reliable. I use Kloxo and probably only 5% of server resources. Planing to take one more VPS with them for other related site but to be on a different server, it is cheaper then shared hosting I use for that site.

Haven’t had any support issues yet, so can’t speak to it. Good support response & VPS performance.

  52. Danny:

I’ve been a customer for about two years now, and it’s been amazing. The performance is pretty good, support is very quick, albeit I’d say it’s essentially the same as having a low-mid end Kimsufi server on average even though the hardware is better because all of the resources are shared. On the downside, the node that I’m on had a funny issue one time with ChicagoVPS. I sent in a ticket about my box being down, they’ve fixed it and said the ethernet cable had came ouyt. Not sure how that happened. But regardless, I’d recommend ChicagoVPS to anyone who doesn’t need high reliability.

My VPS went down yesterday. After several hours I sent a follow-up to the ticket and I was told they were working on it. It’s still down today. I still haven’t heard back, even after a third follow-up to the ticket.

  55. Nick:

I’ve been a satisfied customer for several months now & will be ordering a second VPS from them soon. The customer service response time is very good and they’ve been great about upgrading a previously purchased plan to match the current promotional deal.

    May 21, 2013 @ 7:46 pm
  56. Patrick:

Well, you get what you pay for, which is why we’re on lowendbox in the first place.

The server is generally pretty zippy, and combined with others in the same price range, it does rather well. I’ve been with them for the past two months complaining off and on about some network routing issues which may very well be out of their control, or an upstream provider’s issue.

For instance, LA will route to London 10x faster than it will route to Atlanta… earlier on, Buffalo wouldn’t connect to the Bay Area at higher than 50k/s. For $30-40 a year, these are just some random things that aren’t really dealbreakers… like how my 1985 Ferrari with shitty gas mileage. Everything else seems fine for what I’m throwing at it… basically hosting my car club, family, and friends who would otherwise pay $20/mo to their Domain Registrar for 1/10th of the service.

If you paid by Paypal Please get in touch with Paypal and tell them the issue
we have informed Paypal and they are looking into it
although they say they do not give refunds and they only give Credits to be used on their Shitty Services (Who would want a Credit Note for a Company whose Support Guru’s don’t even know if the door to the Left is on the right or not)
Hope Paypal will give back the Money and claim it back from them (If paypal get enough complaints then they will stop taking money for this company)
