You better sit down.

There’s a shocking development.

In a move that absolutely no one on the planet was expecting, cPanel is raising prices again.

Oh wait, sorry, I meant everyone was expecting.  The annual price jack is an Apple Reminder for their pricing team and now that we’re entering Q4, they’ve got one on queue for January.

Here’s how it looks:

Solo is going up 9%, the others 2-7%.

They’ve consistently raised prices every year.  Must be nice.  The sad truth is that a lot of customers are very used to cPanel.  In fact, I’d wager that the vast majority of people using cPanel have no idea what the product is called – it’s just “the interface where I do stuff at ExampleHost” and may be the only panel they’ve ever known.

There are certainly better alternatives such as DirectAdmin, and we regularly see that panel offered in the LowEnd community.  DA has a different interface than cPanel but it’s very similar.

Providers really shouldn’t be so scared of changing.  Your typical consumer logs into all kind of sites with different interfaces every day – their bank, Amazon, Netflix, various ecommerce platforms, Facebook/Instagram/other social media, etc.  The pages for accounts, settings, etc. are all different on those platforms.  If they can master those, they can master a cheaper alternative to cPanel that’s published by a better, more friendly company.
