5GB is a bit low. But it’s 10$ a YEAR and with 512MB + 512MB Swap. That’s just awesome.
Kloxo+CentOS should be fine with 5 gb space ? I remember that it takes about 2.5 GB without the one-click installer. You also need about 1 GB for the OS.
You actually get 6 GB. They might have thought about the disk space for the OS. My Ubuntu 12.04 installation takes ~700 MB.

Debian uses even less. Ideally, this package should use Debian/Ubuntu and nginx. I’m confused as to why anyone would even consider CentOS. Keep in mind though that in most cases Debian won’t have an SSH server installed by default so you may need to use the serial console to install one. I’d recommend dropbear as it is light on resources.
Actually every openvz debian template installs ssh service. Does cpanel support centos? I don’t think it does.

I think this sounds strange. They could at lease pretend to be supportive like “We will warn you one time and then cancel your services in case it happens again.” Without a basic level of support (i don’t mean how to install software, i mean really the important stuff) this offer is rather useless for me :(
I thought standard practice was turn off the target (or rather null-route them) until the attack ends then turn them back on. Something that you have zero control over being in the ToS doesn’t make any sense at all.
We cannot automate the handling of DoS, hence it is very expensive to us to deal with these attacks. Sorry, but on a $10/year plan there is no other way. On the other hand, we are trying to be upfront about it.

5GB disk isn’t enough to do anything with. If they let you upgrade to at least 20 for another $5 that would make this good. Disk is cheaper than RAM.

It’s a low end box. You can easily run a score of WordPress sites. Or a nameserver, which is what I’m gonna do with them.
It’s possible to get Debian well under 500 MB of diskspace. 4.5 GB is more than enough to run a few websites / a DNS server / a VPN / a Munin master / etc.

Got one today, (instant setup – nice) installed Debian 7 64bit (unfortunately no minimal-template available) and use the box as a teamspeak server. I had some trouble with my former host regarding reliability and uptime, so I chose to switch. Atm using 0,85GB of my diskspace. That leaves still more than 4 GB free.
So much for “isn’t enough to do anything with”. Depends on your desired purpose for the box.

The CPU is idle so it lowers the frequency (“stepping” in the /proc/cpuinfo listing) to save power.

This is what happens with arbitrary limits on ColoCrossing machines. How else do they keep their amp usage under? Not speed step, arbitrary CPU limiting.

I wouldn’t call them shitty (btw I got better DD values). But you are right, the german benchmarks aren’t as good as the US ones. But you have to metion that in the US the hardware, colocatione etc. is cheaper. Anyway, I always read that.

Just notice: half of Internet detect their IP’s in Arizona and Buffalo as canadian, so no hulu.com, no abc.com and others if you buy their “USA” VPS.
This means those specific websites are rather slow on updating their geoip databases (assuming they use GeoIP to detect visitor’s location). This was corrected a couple of months ago, but looks like some guys are slower than the other.

I’ve noticed that the ‘LEB’ code works of the other plans, but it’s not the same sort of value. EG
VPS10G is double the price ($20pa) and comes with:
– More HDD (10 vs 5)
– Same RAM (512 vs 512)
– Lower vSwap (256 vs 512)
– Lower Bandwidth (200 vs 500)
– Same CPU (1 vs 1)
This is all we can offer for now… We do not sell upgrades as this is not something we could automate (yet).

cpu usage may reach about 15% sometimes, but not all the time
the vps ran quite ok at the beginning, but finally I requested my money back within the month as I realized that the vps ran slower and slower.
They gave my money back and said they have no choice but to throttle my cpu to prevent cpu abuse.
I’d be very interested in seeing how you could pull off windows applications under wine on a vps that advertises a single shared core in a way that didn’t qualify as abuse. Licensing cost isn’t the only reason you see few budget windows hosts. People who demand windows at low cost or refuse Linux solutions are notorious for beating shared resources to death.

Be warned that when you register for an account, they send you your password in plain text.
Like most providers do. That’s why I use something like “initial” as initial password and change it right at first login.

74.121.150.3 is located in Buffalo NY, so you would have to order a NY VPS. We have already submitted a correction request to Maxmind, they usually update their database on Tuesdays.
I signed up for Bandwagon today and, so far, the experience has been ideal. The VPS was set up immediately, the e-mails I was sent were helpful, the price is dirt cheap. The server appears to be responsive and comes with Apache and OpenSSH enabled. Server defaults to CentOS 6 (industry standard) but there are lots of other server types, like Debian and Ubuntu from which to choose. I found I had 6GB of disk space (minus about 300MB for the OS). Really happy with what I have seen so far.
How do I choose the server in Germany?

It is possible to migrate later, however, right now it will involve a full data loss on your VPS. In the future we will make it possible to switch location from the control panel without data loss.

I’ve had my VPS for a month. Everything went down a few hours after I signed up, which was a rather ominous sign, but I must say that since then everything has been very good. Total uptime is 99.94% since I signed up and 100% in the past 30 days. I haven’t really stress-tested it, but the performance seems pretty decent. I’m very satisfied so far.
Had it for 3 months now and I gotta say, this was the most wonderful experience! When the hype was over, performance and stability was very good. Kiwi is a bliss, I gotta say! They have recently upgraded it, and now it’s all-you-ever-wanted kind of thing.

Anyone experiencing “Due to high CPU usage, server’s CPU clock is currently being limited.” on mostly idling servers? I do now. No explanation, or, rather, total ignore from the tech support. “Limited CPU” VPS is totally unresponsive, btw. 100% idling CPU – and webmin home page opens in 30+ secs.
This message in Kiwi (below the on I mentioned) could explain this behavior, though:
“If your application requires more CPU time, we suggest upgrading to a better plan. Please contact helpdesk for instructions on how to upgrade your server.
Upgrades are performed seamlessly without data loss and without downtime.”
I got the answer to my prayers and the limitation was lifted in about 4 hours. Tech support apologized and informed me that it could be some kind of OpenVZ kernel bug. Be vigilant, guys :)
I hope they can replenish inventory in a short period of time, I wanted to buy a $9.99
They helped me a lot in debugging a misconfigured (my fault) email server.

They allow VPN and their Kiwi control panel has an OpenVPN server installer.
