123Systems - $21.60/Year 256MB OpenVZ VPS

123Systems Andrew from 123Systems notified me a few days ago on this deal that he posted on WHT (I am really behind on emails, and even more behind on tracking WHT posts). Similar offer as this one from last year. Use promo code STOCK0 to get 40% off recurring discount when you choose annual billing. Their “Linux-256-SolusVM-WHT” ended up being $21.60/Year (or $3.95/month if you don’t like paying annually). Direct sign up link here.

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 10GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers are in Dallas with Limestone I think, although they have been having servers in various locations in the past. I also noticed that they have a new website with a darker background theme + cyan highlights. The text is also gray but lighter and I found it not as easy to read (grrrr I am getting old). Better check the ToS again in case some new paragraphs get added :)

From Andrew’s signature on WHT, they are also opening up Fremont CA “soon”, which would be interesting as it would directly compete with an already established budget OpenVZ VPS provider there.

  9. They are pretty good. The only issue I have so far is that they keep moving from DC to DC. I had one box that moved from Chicago to Dallas, and now another from Orlando to Dallas. None of the other providers I’ve worked with so far move this much. Also, my Dallas VPS seems sluggish: executing simple commands such as ls, ps, free takes a measurable number of seconds. Wonder how oversold the node I’m on is. OTOH, their prices are one of the cheapest and their support is generally prompt.

    • Skomes:

That is unfortunate. I bought a VPS in their Chicago location BECAUSE it was in Chicago, the latency was the lowest I have ever found with a VPS, <30ms. If they ever moved my box I'd stop using it, but then again, since you usually prepay for a year, I guess they don't care too much anyway.

    • SwordfishBE:

      Same here.
Moved from Dallas to Florida. 1 it was cheaper, 2 it has a better latency to belgium.
Moving my account was not possible, so I had to cancel my dallas, after I ordered one in Florida.
My florida vps (annual payment) got extended for 6 months (not 11 months = remaining dallas months), could understand that, didn’t mind, had a better vps. Now I suddenly get moved back to Dallas. Dallas vps is slower, can still use it. And off course, I’m back were I started and lost some money. Not much, but still. Besides that I’m pretty happy with 123systems, support is ok. vps uptime is ok. i/o is ok. just… ok :) but, for the money you pay for it, its good enough.

      • Well,

To give a brief overview of what happened in Orlando. HostDime to be point blank is a horrible provider, We got on board with HostDime looking to have a long-term relationship with them, But ofcourse they turned out to have one of the most unstable networks we have ever seen. They had points to where IP addresses in certain ranges would be unusable for hours, They had numerous network outages (20+ within a 2 month period). They also had gobs of maintenance’s which resulted in downtime and never resolved the instability in their network. After so long we finally gave up with HostDime as they just had no intentions of resolving their network issues. HostDime assured us each and everytime an outage occurred that the issue was resolved and would no longer persist, But those were empty words because a day or two later their network would be on the fritz again.

I’m not sure if anyone here has HostDime’s main site on an uptime monitor but if you do then you’ll see they even had points to where their main site and core helpdesk was not accessible for periods ranging from minutes to hours.

Its ok. But I was just telling my story.
Like I said, I’m happy with my vps, but my vps in florida was faster for me, not only the download-speeds, but the vps itself was faster. And yes, you are correct in saying that there were downtimes.
Maybe I can move to ‘Fremont CA’ if you go with them. Hurricane has good routes to everywhere in the world.
We will see, It did bother me a little that 123systems didn’t notify me before or even after you moved me, but just send out, ‘VPS IP Reallocation (New IP)’ and thats it.

their servers are great..the only problem with them are the servers uptime.
since my first day of subscription, my server has never been up for more than a week.
when I asked them in support, they just kept telling me that they’ll reboot my server without proper explanation on the frequent downtime.(rebooting the server didn’t solve anything. lol.)
down for more than 4 times per day, with average of 30min-2hrs of outage.
ask the other. I bet many would agree with me.

Yes Hanh down allmost all day today (VZ30DLTX, VZ31DLTX, VZ33DLTX) and still nothing, ignoring my tickets as well ;-( looks like we’re on same nodes in Dallas (slow and unstable)

My inbox is loaded with “Monitor down” messages from my web monitor services and it’s not just from today ;-(

They’d get couple of them up for few minutes than they’d all go down now they’re all down (have been for hours now).

I think I have to look into other hosts, money I thought I saved with 123systems is long time gone and actually costing more with all downtimes, people can’t click on website that is not available.
Also my google webmastertools/analytics shows some of my sites not being included in SERPs as much since hosted here.

I’ll just have to eat $300 invested in 123systems and move on (yeah no money back anymore;-(
It is unfortunate, I had great experience with them at the beginning but now it’s impossible to run a small business or successful website, at least lately.

It is true, like SwordfishBE says “you get what you pay for” but their main website is misleading in many ways and makes you think differently:

      1. “…All of our services are Fully Managed!” — NOT SO MUCH in my experience unless their definition of “Fully managed” is different.

      2. “You deserve a break, Leave your applications running and take a vacation. You can rest assured they will still be running when you return. 123Systems provides industry leading uptime & we have the SLA to back it up!”
      — NOT SO MUCH in my experience and seems like many others feel that way too.

Sorry but I can not recommend 123systems for a production website hosting.

They should credit us for SLA since on homepage it says “123Systems provides industry leading uptime & we have the SLA to back it up!” which is just a tactic to get you to buy seems like and you know there is NO Money back any more!!!!!!.

Well I got some accounts at BuyVM last night, had no choice. As soon as 123systems is back online I will start backup process.

This morning some VPSes are up but not all of them, ooops sorry as I write this ALL just went “offline” .( I have 8 VMs with them)

    It’s like this:
out of 8 VPSes 3 are up, 5 down. Hour later 4 are up, 4 down. 2 hours later 2re up, 6 down. And it is random which ones are up or down.

I think all problems they had before did not get fixed appropriately and now whole system has crashed, I don’t know just guessing as they never explain what’s going on.

Well I hope it comes back online so I can download my files and than, GOODBYE 123systems (and my $300 ;-(.

      Hi!

And do you have an automated dns system that redirect to one node or the other depending of the geographical location of the visitor / or if one of these nodes are down?

      February 3, 2011 @ 4:38 pm | Reply
      • There isn’t really such a thing as dynamic DNS. DNS data is always cached and not all caches respect the TTL you set. In either case you are still looking at some downtime. I set up round robin DNS, master-master replication for MySQL + MySQL proxy to only talk to one mysqld from both servers, and a monitor script which restart MySQL Proxy if one of the servers stops working. Seems to work fairly well so far. The only issue you see if one of the servers goes down is that your browser will attempt to connect to it for about 30 seconds, then forget it and try the next server. It will then keep talking to the working server.

Note also, that this is not a backup solution, but only for high availability. Yes, I do have to copies of the data, but if I do mysql> DROP DATBASE my_data_base; I would be screwed instantly.

Didn’t know that if a server goes down in a DNS round robin config then it would only use the working one. That’s great!

We know about ticket system but if you read some comments above, tickets have not been answered and when there is a response , it’s usually “we’re working on it” with no explanation.

That’s why this thread got started in a first place and it escalated because we were left in the dark with our websites down for hours at the time wondering what is going on and fearing what is going to happen tomorrow.

Some level of transparency would only help our fears, we’re in this together Andrew for better or worse. We depend on each other , without you we don’t have websites and without us you don’t have business.

We’re not here to just trash you and your company just for fun, it’s not fun watching blank screen in the browser on my website url or seeing “offline” in VPS control panel. And I know you are just as frustrated and unhappy as we are but be open about it and keep us updated.
It might not solve downtime problems but it would make a world of difference how we feel about you, 123systems and our business with you. It is very simple formula.

And no announcement from 123systems, again left in the dark.

Fortunately I was able to move 3 of my busiest websites earlier to new VM I got from BuyVM.com last night. I also purchased their “Offloaded MySQL hosting” to host my databases on different server – for $1 a month, it’s a steal.
At least some of my websites are online and actually run much faster as the I/O is much better and consistent than on 123systems Dallas nodes. I don’t know is it old hardware or what but I’m glad I got new VPS last night.

It sucks that I had to do that as I already invested in 123systems but at least my sites are up now.

Ones that are still down on 123systems will be moved as soon as I can get to the files, if they ever restore service on rest of the nodes. God I hope they do.

  29. Two nodes that I’m on (31 and 33) have now been down for almost 24hrs. (1424 minutes), looking in my uptimerobot.com account.

The node that got fixed today, was down 5hrs. (365 minutes) at one point and this is just in 24hr period, my uptimerobot account only tracks last 24 hrs.

My basicstate.com account shows average uptime of 88% in last two weeks. Worst was today 13.13%

I wonder if they are going to offer us something to make it up?

Credits? that’s ok if you want to stay with them.

    If you don’t, (which I know I don’t) I don’t believe we’ll get even “sorry”.

  30. The VPS got cancelled after about 18 hours. Looks like it came back up before they killed it (monitoring scripts emailed me about 900 times). They had not responded in any other way and I have no idea whether I’ll get my money back (I paid for a yearly subscription in the fall).

    • Just to clarify: I ASKED for the VPS to be cancelled after all these outages. My previous post made it sound like they did it on their own.

      • If you do get your money, please let me know cause I already bought BuyVM.com VPS in order to get some of my websites up and definitely want to close my 123systems account.

24hrs. downtime is just unacceptable and I had to do something about it and costs me now not just lost earnings from the websites but cost of new VPS I had to purchase.

A respectful company would do something about it to earn customer’s trust again but I don’t think that is going to be the case here.

You know, Dreamhost (my shared host that I moved sites from to 123systems) offer 90 DAY MONEY BACK guarantee but I guess that’s expected from a “Real Company” only.

        • I will post updates here. I sent them a ticket earlier today asking to clarify when I’d get my money back.

I went with 123Systems despite some alarming responses on LEB, because they are a bigger company than most VPS providers. I guess my initial hunch was correct.

C’mon it is 20 bucks a year, which is under 2$ a month. Do not expect a money back guarantee at this price range. You have a VPS which is working and is cheaper a month than a cup of coffee…

Your comment would make sense if this was paid month-to-month.

        • If you purchased during the Dallas outage and want a refund then request it and we’ll grant it. But igor purchased his services MONTHS before the downtime even occurred. This is unfortunately a business, Igor purchased back in November or December (one or the other i do not have his account pulled up), He can request SLA and it will be honored, But a refund. No. Even if we still had refunds in place you would not get one after you have used the service for months.

          February 5, 2011 @ 4:46 am | Reply
      • My VPS was $41.60 + $12.50 one time upgrade. Used for less than two months. And all I get is a one line reply that they no longer offer refunds. Just saying. It could and very well would happen to others. And their VPS’s seemed the slowest, even compare to the one I have in France, where I pay £1.60. Like I mentioned, my impression of them was low from Andrew’s responses on LEB. I decided to give them a chance and had at one point two VPSes with them (one paid quarterly and one annually). After having this experience I can say: my experience was awful. I spent more time babysitting this server than all other ones I have combined. Pay the extra dollar a month and get a decent VPS.

        February 5, 2011 @ 4:45 am | Reply
  31. Keep us updated, I’m scared to even request cancellation as if they don’t give some money back than it’s TOTAL loss. I can at least use VPSes for testing I guess. I’d rather get at least some money back and not have them but not sure what they’re going to do.

BTW have you noticed anything different on “announcement page”??? No because there still nothing on it.
A simple “we want to apologize to our clients…..” and short explanation would suffice.

Like Andrew said “We have a ticket system for that very reason. Please utilize it.”

I say ” You have “the announcements section” for that very reason. Please utilize it.”

Andrew, it’s like you’re annoyed and resentful that you customers are coming to here and WHT to complain about the dreadful service they’re getting. Why don’t you just share with us either here or else on you site what caused this massive outage? You haven’t explained via the ticket system and you haven’t explained via your announcements page and you haven’t explained on any public forum.
You owe your customers an explanation.

    February 4, 2011 @ 7:56 pm | Reply
  33. @ Christian, So I guess you have $20 to just throw away? In my case it’s $20 X 2 =$40 plus few bigger VMs which were not $20 each.

It’s not about the amount, it’s about core principles, it’s about core values and doing the “right thing”. It’s about doing the business right way if you want your company to last.

And again it’s not all about money either, it’s about transparency and fairness, gaining your client’s trust. We all know 123systems is fairly new and we all know that “shit happens” but if you want my business, you better be transparent, open and fair as much as possible. 123systems has done neither one of the three.

When company you’re about to do business with tells you “…Leave your applications running and take a vacation. You can rest assured they will still be running when you return…” , that’s a promise they should stand by it or don’t say it…. but also it is a sales pitch.

You can read on many forums about companies that suck but when review says ” their service suck but they were fair and made things right” than that gives you assurance you’re not gonna get screwed if things don’t work out and even give them a second chance.

This is all just common sense, core principles and values.

I know this thread has turned very harsh and ugly but there are positive sides to it and my hope is that Andrew and 123systems learn something from all this. I’m not denying that I loved the service at the beginning and still would like to see 123systems rise above as I would like to continue my business with them but not under current conditions.

    • So,

Do you preach like this when your other providers have downtime? Or are you just throwing us under the bus because you simply do not like us. Because I’m not sure if you are entirely aware of this or not but every provider has downtime, The downtime was extensive because of the circumstances attached, This was a security breach that affected numerous nodes (Which people on WHT was aware of) but i could not be everywhere to announce that, Now. Would you rather us sit around all day on a blog chatting your brains out or would you want us on top of the issue working on it? Because from the way you make it sound we are just a horrible provider that was not working on the issue period. I would like to have you know i was up for over 24 hours working on getting those nodes back online myself and i personally take offense that you are constantly throwing us under the bus because we do not utilize the announcements section of our billing system, Which we will never use and that’s how it’s going to stay.

Your opinion is your opinion however so i will not dispute that, But before you continue throwing us under the bus you should have all your ducks in a row and make sure you have the entire story, Because you have no once asked for the reason you just sat here twiddling your thumbs posting negative comments on this blog.

      -Andrew

      • Andew, are you serious? Web Design has been asking you to either respond on here, on the announcement page or through the ticket system all day today. The servers were down for over 24 hours and your customers heard nothing. That’s all we wanted to hear: what is your side of the story.

Folks, this is exactly why I had doubts about 123Systems: whenever someone says something remotely bad about their services, Andrew responds in a very aggressive manner, saying things like “Would you rather us sit around all day on a blog chatting your brains out or would you want us on top of the issue working on it?” and “Because you have no once asked for the reason you just sat here twiddling your thumbs posting negative comments on this blog.” Seriously, read all the 123Systems threads on LEB. You’ll see what I’m talking about. I spent a decent amount of money on them and got very little use out of it. I guess I “got some education” for that money though.

        • How many times has LEA stated that his blog is not a help desk? I’m not fixing to update customers on his blog where he has stated numerous times he does not condone it. We have a help desk for this very reason, You would have received an in-dept explanation via a ticket after the outage’s were corrected. I although did actively update clients on Webhostingtalk which I’m sure 99% of the people here use as well.

Either way, As stated LEB is not a support avenue and if you expect to use it as one then your not going to get your questions answers.

        • @ Igor
Thanks for backing me up but it seems there is no use, Andrew knows what we are saying…he’s not stupid. It’s a little bit of “selective hearing”, “reverse psychology” and pure ignorance. It’s a waste.

          @ Andrew
I really thought this was behind us and did not want to waste any more of my time but your comment is so ignorant and false so here it is.

          1. My other providers have very “rare” downtime if any, usually off peak times and certainly never over 24hrs. (this includes Shared hosting providers) Also:
a)They do utilize “announcements page” which prevents threads like this one and helps them and us.

And speaking of “announcements page”, you say “…we will never use and that’s how it’s going to stay.” but if you read few comments above, your support personnel told dannix:

“We will not be notifying anyone via tickets with the reason for the outage, We will make a post in the announcements section with further details. You can look there once it is listed.”

          So which one is it?

Another thing on this is you say “(Which people on WHT was aware of) but i could not be everywhere to announce that.”

Why didn’t you posted here or told us via ticketing system that WHT is your “official announcement place”.
BTW if you did use your announcement page, you wouldn’t have to “..be everywhere to announce that.”
Very simple solution you choose to ignore so don’t blame us but your self.

b.) I believe you were up 24hrs fixing things but hate to tell ya, it is YOUR business, your company and your customers that depend on you fixing it when it breaks. We all do the same for our business when shit goes wrong, it’s no brainer.
And believe me I was up too.

c.)I think I said before but I will say it again, I loved and praised your service at the beginning but lately you suck man. And in every aspect. It is sad.
How can you say I’m throwing you under the bus because I don’t like you?
I don’t even know you man, all I know is service you provide to me and I’m going to be honest about it. Seems like I’m not alone either.

Anyone with some common sense that reads all our comments here from the top would see that all we wanted was explanation which you refused to provide, hour after hour, after hour.
Again going back to announcement section, this could have been avoided but for whatever reason you refuse to give it to us, is it because “you don’t like us”?

Lastly, I did have all my ducks in a row as so many comments here suggest the same (unless we are all just full of it which obviously you think)
You can say that you respect my/our ” Opinions” but they are actual facts.

And like I said before you can make something good out of all this or just take it personally and ignore it. It is your choice as well as ours to make smarter decisions in the future.

          Best of Luck.

Thanks. I hope I helped. I run a small web design company (specialized in building Elgg powered social network communities) and I apply same common sense principles in my business.
If I do not deliver what was promised, than I lose clients and possibly many referrals those clients would send.
      If I know I can’t deliver, I don’t promise I will deliver.
If I screw up, I say “sorry I messed up, what can I do to make it right”.
Trust, transparency and fairness, it’s just that simple.

Also going an “extra mile” when possible has always proved to be very effective and rewarding in a long run.
They can sell bunch of $20 VPSes and make some quick cash in short run but in a long run they will lose as customers will be gone after the contract and they will leave mad and disappointed.
And they won’t come back nor will they recommend them to their friends an colleagues.
You can advertise and claim anything you want on your website but word of mouth is still most powerful marketing technique and it spreads quickly especially in today’s “Social Networking” world so if you want your business to last you better stand behind your claims.

Now it’s up to Andrew and 123systems to decide what they want their company’s future to look like and really think hard about everything that was said here and hopefully make something good out of it. Maybe they will , maybe they wont.
Maybe they think that we are all just mean and full of shit. I don’t know what they think, we have not heard from them here nor on their “announcement page” so It’s all just speculation.

Well I can go for hours. I’m not trying to tell anyone how to run their business but I believe it was necessary to bring some important points to light, again all just common sense in business.
I want to let everyone know that at least everything I said here was never anything personal against anyone from 123systems.

I would also ask LowEndAdmin to let users know about these issues next time new “Deal” from 123systems is posted on http://www.lowendbox.com people have a right to know before they go and spend money with them.

Thank you all and good luck.

  35. ohh my! This looks bad! I came here today to see if everything was in order, and then finally order my self a VPS. I guess ill hold on for a while till all of these issues are sorted out.

I guess despite all of this, i will still get a LEB with buyvm.net. Fine, they have had problems for a day now, but compared to everyone else, they have a long track record of only positive reviews. Everyone has a bad day.

Besides, for the longest time now i have been reading people saying only positive things about them. They have one issues and everyone starts acting like they are the worst company here is!!!

I am telling you, if you had a LEB with anyone else, you would have been used too to such downtimes.

    February 5, 2011 @ 4:57 am | Reply
    • BuyVM is a great provider either way, So i wish you the best of luck with them. Francisco runs a very decent shop over there.

All of the problems we had was resolved yesterday, We can’t help the downtime occurred but only fix it. Which was fixed, Although with extensive downtime. I accept the negative feedback at this point because it comes with the industry. All we can do is push forward from it, But hey how many times have you seen these random LEB providers jump-ship when a problem arises? Far to many, We are running up on a year within the next week and a half and are still here, Since we have intentions of staying around (obviously) this gives us time/resources/etc to improve.

That’s your opinion. Some people might disagree with you. As it is your opinion i will respect it, Not everything in Dallas went down during the chaotic mess, So we still have client nodes that are running with phenomenal uptime. If you are one of the unfortunate people that was affected then you can request a move (if you haven’t canceled) to one of the nodes that have far better uptime results, And ofcourse if you want some sort of reassurance of the node’s uptime then ask for it.

This is a side note for everyone else here, Anyone who wants compensation for the outages then open a ticket and we’ll knock 50% off your next months bill, No questions asked. If you are on an annual contract we will give you 50% of your annual fee in account credits. (EG: You pay $40/year we will give you $20 in Account credits).

That is far more than our SLA will ever grant you, But given the circumstances i believe everyone here deserves something more than a shabby few dollars from an SLA. Please open the ticket with the billing department!

You praise you will give SLA Credit for the downtime and to send a request to billing here is how your billing reply to the request. They were not away that your node was offline for more than 24 hours I shall provide logs and graphs.

          Here is the reply:

Do you have your logs/graphs to show us the amount of downtime, If not we will not be able to provide you with SLA. Also the outages must be 1 hour + otherwise you are not eligible for credits.

IO is another story, most of the time it takes 3 seconds to do a simple ls but sometimes for hours it will take 20. html pages load quick but php ones timeout. Testing the transfer with dd shows an average IO rate of ~ 1.7 MB/s. I would avoid.

  43. node VZ33DLTX is down again ;-(

Yesterday had either reboots or still some troubles….

I requested to be moved from this node as Andrew suggested but have not gotten response since yesterday and now it is “on hold”….

My monitoring service accounts show average uptime of 87.39 ….

I’m not sure the compensation for the outages that Andrew promise will do me any good as it is inevitable I will have to find different provider.
That support ticket has been on hold for two days now anyway.

    • I also have a VPS on VZ33DLTX — it’s up now and has been up continuously since the node was brought back online friday.

      • Sorry my mistake, node is VZ30DLTX – node 30

They just rebooted but out of my 3 VM’s on that node one is still down. hopefully it will be back up soon.

      • SwordfishBE:

VZ33DLTX was down for 30min last night (last night for me :p).
They told me that the Dallas network is more stable, then my previous vps in Orlando.
However, my Orlando vps had much better uptime and did have a good connection for me.
Maybe still problems with there security infrastructure, hope so and that it will be ficed soon.
We’ll have to wait a bit and see.

        • Me too
When I look at my performance/uptime graphs it seems like all nodes I have VMs on just starts to slow down in response time every couple of days and then it just turns off.
Problem is it won’t let me reboot from my vpsCP, I have to create a ticket.

Another node that seems overloaded is VZ30DLTX, I requested to be moved from that node but nothing yet.

I truly hope you are right SwordfishBE, still problems with there security infrastructure.

  44. Just signed up for the service earlier today. Got my self a years contract :) … so far the experience has been exceptional. I am on VZ35DLTX.

The setup was instantaneous and the customer service was amazing. Put up a ticket to set up rDNS and got a reply within 10 mins saying that it was done.

Wow Andrew seems to be loosing his cool with every customer on here,

He cannot take a negative feedback about his company, and always gets so defensive.

I would definitely stay away from 123systems just judging by the horrible comments on here and how the CEO of the company is treating his clients.

  50. VZ35DLTX is very very slow. Almost unresponsive. I dont know whats going on. I have submitted a ticket with them. Lets see what they get back to me with.

    • man I thought only 30, 33 nodes are slow, someone even posted earlier that’s the one they got and it was good. But that seems to be the case, it’s good for a period of time than it goes to shit. They either oversell or don’t know how to run it. It’s a shame.

  51. The server my VPS was hosted on was unresponsive for most of the day. At first it was slow and then unresponsive. Now that i can finally open the control panel, the VPS does not boot. This is pathetic.

  53. The server is back online after 5 hours of downtime and it is still very slow. I think they somehow also misreport the used RAM as much higher. The amount of RAM used is way to much. I was running the same setup on a different VPS where it took only 40MB RAM following the instructions to set up debian for a wordpress blog on debian. The current VPS i have reports the memory used as 170MB which is crazy. They are a scam. I am stuck with a years contract but i would ask everyone else to stay away from them.

That usually means that they’re heavily oversold on RAM.

  55. My 123systems vps in Chicago was down for 10 hours due to some hardware issue apparently, but it’s back up again now.

Are they migrating all of the Chicago VPSs to Dallas? I’m happy at the Chicago location, so I hope they don’t move it. They haven’t said anything, yet, but I see in the comments that they’ve moved some people from Chicago.

i just read the mail but my VPS was not affected but one node had a severe Kernel panic and the /etc/vz dir was destroyed so they manually fixing it now this might be the downtime you mentioned

however my vps seems up and was not down

      root@dallas:~# uptime
      09:45:37 up 16 days, 2:13, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Somehow 123Systems is offering IPv6 now but only 1 per customer? Is there any technical reason that it can’t be provided to every VPS? All my other servers get /64, and you can even get /48 from some tunnel brokers.

    February 23, 2011 @ 11:51 am | Reply
    • Wondering about the same thing….
I have 2 VPSes with them and only one of them can get an ipv6. Technical reason? I don’t think so….

      • Dirk:

So if 2 customers have each 1 VPS, they can give each VPS an ipv6 address. If a customer has 2 VPSes with them then they can only give 1 ipv6 address….rights that’s because it’s beta.
Also they announce the beta, but forget to tell that it’s only for Dallas and not for the other location(s)….

I’m not trying to defend them. I do agree if its really 1 ip per customer and not vps, its just strange.

  57. Little warning: if you had a VPS with them in Orlando (Florida), then they simply moved that to Dallas. At the end of January there was an IP change…they didn’t just change the IP they also moved the VPSes from Orlando to Dallas.

    • SwordfishBE:

Same here :) Just an email ‘new ip’. No explanation or nothing. They did explain it later, but only after a few users, keep on asking about it.
      After that everything went downhill.
My thought? They put all the Florida users on existing Dallas servers, not new ones. Now a few of there servers in Dallas are so overcrowded that the containers on them just stop working, or even the node/host servers shutdown or crash. They did have some problems with there servers, but that should have been fixed some time ago.
At the moment, I can’t use the vps with them, just because it is so unreliable. I was using it as backup server offshore (I’m from Europe). It’s a shame, they rocked just a month ago.
Something else I noticed, they only answer tickets they want to answer. For example, if you ask to be moved to another node/host, it gets ignored.
I do know we only pay so little, so we can only expect so much. But I do expect my vps to be usable.

      • SwordfishBE: My experience (and thoughts) are identical to yours. Service in Florida was OK, since the Dallas migration it sucks. I’ve migrated everything off long ago. Now I just have some monitoring on it so I can see the IOwait skyrocket three or four times a day — and i get emails when its rebooted every 2-3 days. I’ll what and see what it’s like in a month, or two, or three. Might get some use out of my $20 then :)

  60. Peter (purchased three $25 vps):

I have two VPS. For the price, I am very happy what I got. I use them mainly for testing, sometimes for backup. Perfect!

But the low end VPS are down or very, very slow roughly one to two hours per day. But still very happy. I certainly don’t want to a 24h ecommerce site on it ;-)

Don’t complain. LOOK AT THE PRICE :-)

  61. openlab:

I’ve got one, and upgrade the dedicated mem to 384M, with an addon of 128M mem.
The performance is not stable. I/O is low as below 10M/s in most time. And frequent latency to commands in SSH terminal, even simple commands as uptime and ls (to my root directory, only few files). I cannot say I am happy with it, even I have a low expectation on LEBs.
And now, it’s down. I’ve issue a ticket. Wish it will be back in hours.
Wish the rest months of this purchase will change my mind to renew it.
