then, wouldn’t it be better to buy vps from hostgator than from you?
I don’t think they resell HostGator’s VPS. HostGator VPS also starts at ~$20/month.
I can assure you they don’t. I ordered a plan through them a month or so ago and it was based in Arizona with PhoenixNAP, and i believe Hostgator strictly uses ThePlanet.
@john i said maybe; thats good to hear (those read a few we dont like resellers :-)). but a vps provider without ssl. i dont go for it.
to all serious webhosters please take my few advice;
1) host your own site on a dedicated server not from hostgator like this.
2) have an ssl
3) if you use whmcs; paid for the link removal(no branding) otherwise you look cheap.
4) dont use zopim live chat (too common ;-))
5) Care for your design – if not beautiful make it simple.
6) have payment method of at least two – eg.paypal and credit card
7) then delivered.
1) if it’s stable, I don’t care where it’s hosted. I want it hosted offsite so that any problems with the VPS network don’t affect uptime of the website and support facilities. Apart from that it could be hosted anywhere. As long as it’s stable and available.
2) I agree here, assuming you’re meaning they should NOT use a self-signed cert.
3) I don’t mind. I’d rather the money was spent on something that will actually affect my service, rather than spent on making whmcs look a bit nicer. How often does a customer actually see whmcs?
4) Does it work? That’s all I care about. I don’t want a provider to be different for the sake of it. I just want things to work, and for a good price.
5) I’d rather it was simple than it was beautiful. Spend time making the service stand out, not the website. Again, as long as it works…
6) I agree here, it looks a lot more professional, but I don’t really like to see a provider accepting all sorts of weird and wonderful payment methods. There are some who accept payment by SMS. That just attracts kids imo, and I don’t want some dumb kid bogging down the server.
I have been with AlienVPS for 3 or so months, at first it was great. I have been unable to connect to my VPS for the past 3 weeks. I have emailed support, they did get back to me very quickly, but my issue is yet to be resolved.
I am pretty dissappointed in the service, I prepad a year. I won’t be renewing.
