BHost Alex from BHost emailed me a new promo code for September. Moreover if you prepaid for a year before October, you can also get a free .com, .net, .org or .co.uk domain — just need to lodge a support ticket. Their “Bronze” plan is now £3.68/month (excl GST, ~USD$5.81). Same spec as before

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

BHost colo their own servers with RapidSwitch in Maidenhead UK (test IP/files). One of the better UK hosts here with some praising reviews in the past. Terms and conditions as well as AUP can be found on their wiki. Been in operation since 2002.

  1. I have had a UK Bhost for nearly a year (after a previous LEB offer for the Silver package), and they are the best VPS provider I’ve used by a country mile.

I have literally had no problems with these guys; they are not the cheapest, but the nodes are obviously not overloaded and the support are always super polite and quick.

Just migrated from QualityServers, after several downtimes, accidental removal of my account (lost my data) and finally my account was suspended, because my VPS was doing huge CPU and I/O.

Currently at BHOST my VPS has 9 days uptime (WOW) and for this period has less than 1% CPU usage. Ordering the VPS at BHost was very easy and quick, easy payment and finally migrated all my data for less than an hour.

    Regards,
    Sve

  6. We can confirm. The services and uptime of this VPS hosting is great. They have only planned downtimes for last whole year.

    Just wanted to add my 2c;

’24 hour support’ is a joke and non existant. I called several times and never got to a person, even in normal office hours. Online reply to questioning took 2 days.

Went through entire signup process only to find out right at the end they only accept paypal. –Order cancelled.

Note to B-Host: quit the BS. Nobody minds if you don’t have 24hr phone # at these prices. What i do mind, is being bullshitted. If you were upfront about this and your payment options i would probably have signed up.

    • Bob, thanks for your comment.

Sometimes calls go to voicemail – we only have one staff member on during the night, so if they’re attending to another matter, they aren’t able to take a phone call. We always respond to voicemail messages as soon as possible, either by voice or email.

We’ve temporarily removed credit card orders due to fraud. We’re just implementing Verified by Visa / Mastercard Securecode and then card payments will become available again. Apologies for the poor messaging on our order form – you shouldn’t have to get to the end of the process to find this out. We’ll rectify this. If you contact us, we’ll give you a month of free service as compensation.

  9. Hmm… Mixed view so far. I requested a CentOS 6.0 image, which they provided, so that’s good. I also requested the enabling of TUN/TAP, which was, after 6 hours or so, enabled. However, Disk I/O performance is pretty poor. I’ve run the test a few times over the last 8 hours or so, and:

    root@vpnbox~# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 47.3433 s, 22.7 MB/s

is the best i’ve had… it has been taking 5+ minutes to install something as basic as nano. apt-get upgrade took an age. I’ve submitted a support ticket – they said that they’d get a technician to look into it, but nothing has come of it yet. I’ll try and keep you updated.

    • Perhaps an abusive client. I’ve heard good things about this company and so I’m sure they’ll sort it. :)

    • We’re aware of an I/O issue affecting one of our nodes – we’re going to move all affected customers to a better node with RAID 10. Please request this in a ticket if you’re affected still.

    • Hi,
Just so you know we are upgrading our storage arrays so they’re faster, which will eliminate this problem. Customers will be migrating in the coming 4 weeks. Please put in a ticket if you’d like to be moved expeditiously.
      Thanks

    • We have many customers using their VPSs for game servers, including Team Fortress 2 and CounterStrike, who have found the VPS service more than adequate.

However, this will of course ultimately depend upon the game you are hosting and the number of players – at such a low cost it can not compare to highly priced dedicated game servers.
