BHost - £3.72 512MB OpenVZ VPS in UK

BHost Nick from BHost emailed me their latest promo code for LowEndBox readers. It is a couple percentage more than their March offer. Use promo code LOWENDBOXAPRIL2011 to get 24% off recurring discount. That brings down the price of their “Bronze” plan to £3.72/month (+VAT for those in UK/EU).

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • OpenVZ

Servers with RapidSwitch in UK. Pretty positive reviews from previous posts, and they are an experienced provider since 2002.

Nick is also adding an extra offer if you pay annually — a free .com, .net, .org or .uk domain. You need to sign up this month and pay for a year to be eligible, and claim through raising a support ticket.

Can’t say anything bad about BHost, one of the best VPS I got. Unlike some other providers who say their connections are on 100mbps (and you only get 6mbps down) BHost actually get around 90mbps down.

They also sent me a free USB Stick, which I can’t complain about. (It even lights up at the end :) )

Speedtest.net is not a valid measurement for pretty much anything. Flash is slow. Donated servers are slow.

Ab, no clue, so be quiet. Donated servers are no slower. Http packets travelling over internet don’t know if they end up in flash or in whatever. Retard.

    WHY?

    April 12, 2011 @ 9:11 pm | Reply
    • This info is out of date, apologies. You only pay VAT if you’re in the European Union.

      April 13, 2011 @ 8:54 pm | Reply
      • and even that is not 100% correct…if you have a VAT number and are in the EU you don’t have to pay the VAT either…

        • This is even not close to the true too. If you are in the EU you HAVE to pay VAT.

    • I’m living in Belgium and when I order in the EU (outside of Belgium) and provide my VAT number then I don’t pay the VAT.
I have several VPSes in Europe (Netherlands, Sweden, UK) and from European companies and once I provide them my VAT number I do not have to pay VAT.

Ive been running with a gold package from bHost for a few months now and im still very pleased. Nick is very helpful and always responds quickly to my questions. I was running a bronze server as well for awhile to do some testing and that was great too. Cant go wrong for the price and the recurring discount!

  13. Update after a month of usage:
    1. First month was more than OK
    2. Second month starts with immediate network issues: slow connectivity and irresponsible box.
    3. The funny part is status update “everything fixed”, but still waiting to exchange unreliable network hardware.
    4. Few hours no ticket respond, ok, they are at hard work to exchange hardware but… still nothing…
    5. Will see tomorrow -will they return to the service from the first month.

    • Again replying to myself: Network issue fixed asap. So the VPS is acessible again with max speed of 100 mbps. I’m more than satisfied with this service. Next review – next month :) Steliyan

In the last week, my VPS experience has been terrible.

The network is fast, however the VPS itself is terribly slow, heres the time it took to install mysql-server (55kbps) on a clean debian install.
