Luna Node is another new host at LowEndBox, so welcome! Luna Node’s offers are hosted in Chicago from the Singlehop DC. Server run hard drives in RAID10 configuration mostly with Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS 2108. In addition to the above, Luna Node offers a free wildcard OR single-domain SSL (AlphaSSL) certificate for each VPS purchased! Luna Node were found in August 2013 and have been putting up offers on LowEndTalk every since. I’ve personally given them a try and I have to say I was impressed with the server and their support. Please share your experiences with Luna Node with us here!

Luna Node accepts PayPal, BitCoins, and credit cards through PayPal for payments. Favyen also told us they are working on their own WHMCS replacement (https://pbobp.lunanode.com/) and you can even receive PGP-encrypted e-mail if you upload your key to https://lunanode.com/gpgmw. Their TL;DR ToS: tor exit nodes, public proxies, public (i.e., open and allowing connections from anyone) virtual private networks are not allowed. Tor relay nodes, private proxies / VPN, adult content are allowed. Give their full Terms of Service a read before you order. Additional IPs are also available and they’re cheap! A  /29 block (five usable) is $3.00/month additional and a /28 block (thirteen usable) is $7.50/month additional (brief justification required).

Keep in mind that these plans only have one or two CPU cores with a fair share usage policy.

  8. Does bandwidth within the LunaNode servers/network count towards the bandwidth limitations? For instance, could I get a 450GB storage server and a 12TB bandwidth server, and as long as the storage server was just talking to the 12TB bandwidth server, it wouldn’t use bandwidth?

    December 1, 2013 @ 12:01 am | Reply
    • Just got a reply from their support: “If you are using the private IP address supplied then it won’t count. The private interface has 1gbps connectivity. Note that there are still limitations (you are not allowed to continuously overload the private interface).”

      December 1, 2013 @ 12:14 am | Reply
      • I ended up getting a storage server and then adding on the specs of the bandwidth server, so I got a dual-core 1ghz machine with 465gigs of storage and 14tb of bandwidth for $163 a year.

    • Uggh, I had to request a cancellation.

CPU model : QEMU Virtual CPU version 0.14.1
      Number of cores : 2
      CPU frequency : 2266.746 MHz
Total amount of ram : 996 MB
Total amount of swap : 4095 MB
      System uptime : 4:58,
      Download speed : (3.67MB/s)
      I/O speed : 75.7MB/s

I actually calculated that to download transfer 14 terabytes of data at 3.67mb/s would take just a few days short of a whole year.

        DeftNerd. Request a cancellation? Why?

Then you posted some specs, and the fact that 100mbit can do about 24TB a month, so 12tb would be about 5MB/s at all time.

      • perennate:

Your test is in MB/s, not mb/s. The I/O speed and transfer speed are a bit lower than expected, but we were provisioning several machines yesterday which is completed now.

Is it OK to use this VPS as a VPN?

    December 2, 2013 @ 6:22 am | Reply
    • perennate:

If the VPN does not allow public connections from anyone on the Internet, then it is okay. Public proxies and VPN’s are not allowed.

So I could try to make a profit, trying to sell VPN access for cheap to friends, and friends friends and so on, without violating any terms?

So the certificate is valid for 1 year…do I get a free certificate year for year or only the first?

    December 7, 2013 @ 7:38 pm | Reply
    • perennate:

The specific requirement is, at the time that you request another certificate, you must have more active services than active certificates. A certificate is considered active until it expires.

So, you can open a ticket for another certificate one or two weeks before the last one expires, assuming that at that time (i.e., in a year) you have an active service with us.

      • Tom:

Thanks. So how can you provide such a certificate for free when the least expensive one that AlphaSSL has to offer costs $49/year? Do you get them almost for free with a special deal with them? I’m just curious how you guys can offer a $4/month plan that includes such a certificate.
