After they went public about the money that BlueVM owes them, BlueVM quickly changed their mind and paid their bill. Hopefully, its not something that happens too often.

I have been a BlueVM customer since last year, and I just got another VPS, too. (the BLUE2 plan)

Despite an issue I had regarding the network a few months ago (which was promptly fixed up by support) everything has and is working well. Would recommend.

I tested all of the download links and get the best result from the Buffalo link. It was about 650KB/s (because my connection speed is 6Mbps). So I went ahead and ordered the Buffalo server.

The actual speed on the Buffalo server I ordered was ridiculously slow, it was only 30 to 35 KB/s, sometimes it even dropped to 10KB/s. Yes I could rarely see it went up to 78KB/s and only lasted for a few seconds. That was 1/20 compared to the test link at most time. I tested it by uploading a large file and download it using the browser. I don’t think this is acceptable. This is totally different from the test link and I think they are cheating. I have contacted the support yesterday and they said they will investigate it but still got no any further response from them.

        My ticket ID is 532314.
One of your support staff replied, said that he were unable to reproduce the issue.

However, this issue can never be reproduced from your side. It can only be reproduced from my side. The issue is NOT slow downloading files TO the VM, the issue is when downloading FROM the Buffalo test link TO my computer, it downloads at a very fast speed (around 600KB/s to 650KB/s), but the actual speed that download FROM the Buffalo VM TO my computer is ultimately slow – 30KB/s, and today it’s even slower – around 22KB/s.

I don’t know how you are going to solve the issue, but I feel rather angry because this is not a slightly difference between the test link and the actual VM I order, but a huge difference that huge enough for me to ask for a refund.

        February 17, 2014 @ 5:22 am | Reply
        • Took a look at your ticket again… perhaps we can try a different location that is closer to you geographically and should have better peering.

          February 17, 2014 @ 6:00 am | Reply
          • Forest:

Thank you for following up the issue. I really would like to choose a better location if it improves, but I’m afraid the connection speed from your other servers to my location is much worse. I have taken screenshots of downloading the test files from all of the locations. I’ll update my ticket with the screenshots. Here’s the brief result:

            Atlanta: 13.6KB/s
            Buffalo: 518KB/s
            Chicago: 6.9KB/s
            Dallas: 11.0KB/s
            LA: 6.4KB/s
            Piscataway: 24.0 KB/s

According to the results, I don’t think I would be interested in changing a location since these locations are worse even downloading from the test link.

I currently have three other VPSes hosted in Buffalo, Forsyth and Henderson by three other different companies, but none of them has a poor transfer rate to my location like this. I can get an average of about 300KB/s to 450KB/s transfer rate when downloading files from those servers. When I tested your Buffalo test file and saw it held at the 650KB/s transfer rate, I was convinced by the speed, that’s why I didn’t hesitate to order your Buffalo VPS. So I would like to cancel my service and ask for a refund.

            Thank you.

I’ll update the ticket with the same content in this reply and with my screenshots for your company.

You really should not close the ticket when my problem is still not solved. You only said that you can try a different location. I thought you were making a suggestion but I didn’t even answer whether I will or will not accept your suggestion, and you closed my ticket yourself. I replied the ticket to reopen the issue. I still got no further response but I saw you replied others’ question here so I assume you already know my issue is still open but maybe you or your company didn’t care enough to solve the issue.

What your company did made me feel uncomfortable. I paid my order but I didn’t get the same product as you advertised, so I’ll make a request to cancel my account now, and wait for your full refund. I will not accept any other suggestions. I’ll wait an additional 24 hours for you to refund, and if I don’t receive a positive response in the next 24 hours, I’ll file a charge back immediately.

Regarding the ticket status, sorry about that misunderstanding. I saw the message “There are no known issues at this time” in my client area, and my ticket was right below it and showing an “answered” status. That message was misleading and made me think my ticket has been removed from the open ticket list. I saw this message and status again after you replied me again, so I finally know that it was a misunderstanding. Sorry about that.

Back to the topic, what I want is really simple. If I can’t get the similar download speed from my VM as your test link, this product/service is not what I was ordering. I want a refund. There is such a huge download speed difference between your test link and the actual VM, I can hardly believe your company this time, and the actual speed is so horrible that making the VM impossible to utilize at all.

Can you accept buying a VM with 25GB disk space that you wanted to host your own files for backup use but it can only transfer at a 30KB/s transfer rate to your computer, but during your pre-sales test it gave your a 600-650KB/s impression? NO, ABSOLUTELY NO. That’s all. Refund and let’s try to end our first deal with a smile. I don’t want to be angry, but ignoring my refund request and still asking if I need anything else is pushing me angry. It’s not necessary to do that. Please understand I’ve already made the decision, please refund.

I am a BlueVM customer since last year. Ever since I was moved to another location, 19 out of 20 times I cannot connect with the VPS. Sometimes it take sup to 20-30 attempts to do so, sometimes it simply does not connect. This morning, I got into password prompt, entered password, 10 minutes later I am still waiting to get in. Another session window opened times out. This is BlueVM.

    • I’d love to take a look… do you happen to have a ticket number I can reference? Also some information about where you are connecting from vs the VPS location would help…

        It was #612215 and #449816.
Last I received reply there was a problem with the node, and that it was resolved, after that I have NOT had problems trying to connect at random intervals.

What it quite bothersome, though, is that every time I log in I get a message there were hundreds or thousands of failed login attempts since my last login. This is a new IP so I do not think somebody would be just trying random IPs, and the samething was happening with old IP. I do not run anything besides youtube download script with no server mods and OS is basically fresh install. So I do not think there would be exploit. Can you look into that please? Thank you.

  24. Thanks to these wonderful NEW offers my good deal from 2012 came to a crashing halt.
Since this is a long story, I’ll sum up at the start and say that when I finally needed my control panel it didn’t work at all, and instead of being able to reload my OS, I was abruptly given a new IP elsewhere, and only half the RAM of my original deal – which is still not quite as good as their most recent offers.

I’ll qualify this by stating my appreciation for Justin’s efforts to “make things right”. I got a VPS from Blue VM that’s been running greta since Oct 2012. I originally intended to get one in CHI and one in LA because their offers at the time looked so good – and they included DOUBLE the RAN of their standard plans. Well on invoice #6271 I had their BLUE3 256/512 and the “special” per my understnading, included 512M guarenteed RAM. Not since I finally needed to use the control panel when my server choked on an upgrade -when I finally did finds the link for the control panel, nothing on it worked, though it did last year. Justin did tar my entire machine, but gave it a web address without even a password, this would have been OK but it was hell trying to get a response from anyone to take it down one I’d received it, and there was no way to get the machine running at all.
All I wanted was my original VPS, and the knowledge that I could completely erase and restore it from the provided images.
    Not true in this case.

  25. to clean up the obvious erors in the comment I hope you did not post yet:

I got a VPS from Blue VM that’s been running great since Oct 2012. I originally intended to get one in CHI and one in LA because their offers at the time looked so good – and they included DOUBLE the RAN of their standard plans.
I was lucky to get one that wasn’t DOA that matched my order, having got past that part
on invoice #6271 I had their BLUE3 and “double” RAM at that time gave me 512 until yesterday!
When I recently needed to use the control panel nothing on it worked, though it did last year. Justin did tar my entire machine, but gave the tarball a web address without even a password, This would have been OK but it was hell trying to get a response from anyone to take it down once I’d received it, and there was no way to get the machine running at all, because the control panel still did not work and nobody there bothered to reboot or proeperly migrate it.
All I wanted was my original VPS, and the knowledge that I could completely erase and restore it from the provided images.
Not true in this case. I didn’t find I had a new IP address until I logged in to Feathur. The other machine in that panel btw, has not been performing reliably enough for me to trust, and has been inaccessible ablout half of the time, sometimes with a “no route to host” when I try to ssh.

I repeatedly asked for my old VPS so I could erase and reintall myself, what I got was a VPS with half the RAM and an OS I never use on an IP from Chicago VPS.

    • I made the further mistake of ordering one of their annual specials at the NY locations – it has almost no connectivity and about half of the time that I’ce tried ssh it responds with “no route to host”. With this giy “Jeff Fihrman as their support, I don’t see much of a future for this company unless they’re in a hurry to quickly build a long list of customers and then sell.

When I tried rebuilding it, the indicator spun for about an hour, and my ticket was ignored until I yelled on their IRC. I ‘ve asked for a refund on the NY acc’t and instead of a response from billing, got a long tirade from this Jeff Fuhrman who has time to chew out a customer, but apparently no time to solve trouble requests. This operation is in sad shape. I absolutely would never recommend them.

Then tell me how do I use the poor server at 30KB/s download speed? And after I requested to cancel my account, I can no longer connect to your server. That’s funny, you always say you are going to solve my problem but you actually did nothing.

Let me tell you what you have done if you don’t know what you were doing:
        1. You took my money.
        2. You gave a different product that totally different from the one you offered before I paying.
        3. You then blocked or canceled my access to your servers. I only accessed your server for 2 days to find out it was not the same product I was ordering. And the product then returned.
        4. You told me you don’t refund.

After all this you still want me to trust you? NO WAY SCAMEER. I already raised a dispute on PayPal, and I’ll certainly raise it to a PayPal claim. I’ve also contacted my bank for preparing a charge back. If you still pretend you would like to solve my problem after you have blocked my access to your VM, you are not just a scammer but also a troller. You and your company solves problems in such a unprofessional way. This is the worst service I’ve ever seen.

  28. When I made the mistake of “working with them”, I originally wanted 2 VMs. One could not be made to work, and the made the mistake of cancelling the wrong one twice. It was a full month before I had stable service on one VM, and at the end of the affair, they posted a tar of my entire server on a public URL, with now password, denied me access to my original machine, and “provisioned me a new machine” with half the RAM of my original order. I have the entire process saved in email. It is a serious waste of time to avoid if you have reall need for a VPS. I don’t know if you’d call it a scam, but they do play quite a shell game moving their IPs around between different cities and the final one they assigned was from Chicago VPS.

BlueVM may not be perfect but for what you pay you definitely get more than what you pay for. My VPS has solid uptime, and I just LOVE the feathur control panel. The feathur control panel is really elegant and works amazingly well. Kudos to Justin and co.

    Two words: Packet loss.

85+% for most of today, and it’s been horrible all week. I (unfortunately) signed up for a yearly plan and they do not offer pro-rated refunds. Buyer beware.

Ordered a VM about 30hrs ago, does it normally take this long to get a new VM built?
most places seem to do it in 10-15 mins if not instant.

If you like to throw your money away, I suggest buying Bitcoins instead.

But if you want to get a broken VPS with no IP and slow response times, these guys are great with that.

At least ChicagoVPS gave me a working server. At least every host I’ve ever been with got me started with a working server within the 5 days. THAT’S 120 HOURS AND COUNTING BY THE WAY.

Hey there BlueVM I am really interested in this good offer for 15 $ for a year plan, however I was wondering if you have a free space at your European server since I would like to have my vps in Europe cause its closer to me. If you have please let me know so I can purchase it. Thanks for the good deal!

I have nothing but bad things to say about their service, and I just started using them a few weeks ago.

My server always got restarted, and I haven’t installed or done anything. The longest uptime is 1.5 days. I don’t know whats wrong with the server, but usually at certain time of the day the server will start going slow and hang, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Even tried restarting it or kill it via openVZ, but nope, no cant do. Put out a support ticket and they just restart the server, and it happens all over again the next day. If you see their twitter, there’s nothing but restart tweet.

I guess you get what you paid for.

  45. Juan Valdez:

I have two KVM virtual machines with BlueVM, running low-volume email servers. Those two required several reboots in the first few days, but have now been completely stable for a month.

Yesterday I ordered an OpenVZ VPS from BlueVM to experiment with some VPN software. PPTP worked well, but IPSEC requires a kernel module that didn’t exist. I contacted support, expecting them to tell me that it just wouldn’t be possible for me to run IPSEC in my VPS. A few minutes later a technician contacted me to tell me he had moved my container to a “testing” version of OpenVZ that is supposed to permit IPSEC, and that he’d love to hear whether I could get it working. Sure enough, I was able install racoon and xl2tpd in Debian and connect to my VPS using the built-in Mac OS X IPSEC client.

Considering how little I’m paying for these servers, I’m extremely happy with the service and support I’m getting from BlueVM, and am happy to recommend them to others.
