LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

BlueVM - $5.63/year 128MB, $5.63/month 1GB OpenVZ and a KVM in various locations

BlueVMJustin, from BlueVM, has sent in three special offers to us. These offers are exclusive to LowEndBox.com and all feature their own panel: Feathur. Feathur is an Open Source (AGPL V3.0) control panel for OpenVZ and KVM and is available on GitHub. BlueVM Communications LLC are based in Honolulu and are dedicated to offering “low cost, high quality Virtual Private Servers (VPS)”. We have featured BlueVM numerous times since early 2012 and reviews have been mainly positive. After they had enough of SolusVM after numerous security incidents, BlueVM decided to write their own panel. Feathur is the result of that. It’s already in use at BlueVM (and has been for a while) but it is also available to the public and I believe other providers have started using it as well. Their hardware primarily consists of Intel E3-1240 servers (@ 3.4GHz) with 32 GB of RAM and 4 x 1TB or 2TB hard drives in RAID10. A review of their service (which includes Feathur screenshots & serverbear link) can be found here.

BlueVM accept PayPal, Google Checkout and Bitcoin via Bitpay. Due to abuse of their previous refund policy, they no longer offer refunds on their services except in special cases. They provide a 99.99% uptime guarantee and provide service credits if they fail to meet this. According to their website, they undersell (typically they leave 500GB of HDD space free and 2-4GB of ram free). For more information, have a read of their Terms of Service.

I purchased one of their 0.5’s in CA… thus far it’s pretty good, especially for the price. Did a disk test it’s fairly snappy:

    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 5.88765 s, 182 MB/s

  7. Is there any possibility of getting a transfer for a .5 or is that not acceptable by your limited support policy?

    March 31, 2014 @ 3:11 pm | Reply
    • We offer free ‘recreates’ of our 0.5’s in any location we offer them in. If you need your data transferred there is a $5 fee so generally speaking it’s better to get a recreate and use backups.

Just a word of warning: The BlueVM OpenVZ machines randomly reboot (I suspect after kernel upgrades – which is fine) but after reboots the iptables state and log modules do not work which results in not being able to restore your iptables rules and no firewall on your VPS. Disabling/re-enabling iptables on the control panel sometimes fixes the problem but it is an annoyance having to fix the problem each time you notice the VPS has rebooted and has no firewall rules active. I suggest you consider more reliable VPSs

Yea, I noticed that too. I spent over 3 weeks to get my IP Tables fixed after the node was restarted / maybe crashed.
      Now it works nicely. :)

Well after spending most of last week having two of our VPS shut down I am not impressed. Two of our VPS were suspended because they were supposedly spamming. I put in a ticket to have one VPS unsuspended so I could see what was wrong, and it took several messages and more than 24 hours for it to be reinstated. We found no evidence of spamming. The second VPS was suspended twice, and was off for almost a week. After complaining it was reinstated, with BlueVm admiting it had never been spamming.

In both cases of the VPS being suspended we received zero notification. We had to find out by accident. I am very unimpressed. We operate a dozen VPS’s over 8 suppliers.

Well, who told you BlueVM is good as a live server? Surely the price is nice, but taking into account the very poor support, uptime issues, non consistent speeds and node issues, it’s a very nice vps to fool around and experiment, but you must be mad to use it for serious work!

We have the same problem with BlueVM, they suspend our VPS with the same arguments and without any warning and then their support respond very slowy, the VPS has down more than 24 hours and we need pay other VPS service with other provider and up our clients websites with the backups, a terrible experience.

Just to reply my own question:

      BLUE3 – Buffalo, NY
      1024 MB of Guaranteed RAM
      1024 MB of Swap
      3 CPU @ 2.0+ Ghz
      1 IPv4 Address
      50 GB of Disk
      2 TB of Bandwidth
      NEW Feathur Control Panel! (OpenVZ)

So it says OpenVZ but advertized here as KVM.

Signed up but can’t pay invoice. PayPal throws an error and tells you to return to merchant.

It’s nothing to do with my PayPal, I signed up to another host 10 minutes later and it worked as normal.

Got a vps on the 12th of April around 5PM. VPS was setup finally after 26 hours after ordering, only after submitting a ticket 20 hours before the setup. Now 3 days latter I still can’t login to the server panel with my provided credentials. Also the password recovery link brings up a php error after submitting my email. They also haven’t responded to me on this issue for 10+ hours.

Bought there KVM3 product a few month back. Performance has been consistently poor. IO rates typically below 30MB/s. Network speeds typically 10MB/s. Had previously looked at serverbench which had rated this package well above these rates. Support ticket to BlueVM did nothing. Now the host is down and has been for a couple of days. Support ticket opened with no response. Poor performance and poor support. I’d recommend staying away from BlueVM.
