LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

boxSRV - £2.50 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Kansas City

Update Oct 2011 — boxSRV has renamed to VMPort and stopped resolving since 12 September 2011.

boxSRV Ashley from boxSRV, a division of AdvancedSpace, emailed me about their new low end VPS offerings. Cost on their website is shown in USD however when you actually click on [Order], the currency becomes GBP which is actually a bit dearer than the USD (as of today’s exchange). For £2.50/month you get

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 12GB storage
  • 120GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

You can use promo code 25offvps to get 25% off once-off discount. Servers in Kansas City MO, which I guess would be with Wholesale Internet. Domain was only registered by Ashley in UK 2 weeks ago. Even its “parent company”, AdvancedSpace, was merely registered in February. Their two NS, although appear to be on different class C, are actually on the same server so no redundancy fail.

The website design does look very similar to BuyVM‘s. Pricing is nowhere close though.

    • Argh. Sorry should be more “dearer”, i.e. more expensive.

Nope not with them, would love to for a TS3 server, but I’m with ipap.co still. Meh.

  9. We will not be going anywhere we have many happy clients. I would also like to note that we downloaded the template from a forum prior to seeing buyvm.net

Its really just a simple CSS/Table layout im sure there are many other sites looking the same but nobody will point this out. It was a temporary fix well we were making our new site anyway, we purchase our designs as you can clearly see at our main site. So no we are in no way a midnight host we are regular posters on WHT so you can find me there if you have any direct comments.

We were in no way trying to copy buyvm

    Many Regards.

  11. For those interested I posted this as a topic on WHT in the design section. The owners claim they’ve never seen our site and actually paid someone for ‘the template’. I’ve since then pointed out that the design isn’t a template and I have the PSD’s as proof.

He has been asked to please link to where someone made this ‘template’ available for download. They claim they paid for all of their templates but considering the design they’re now using a free template we’ve seen on here a half dozen times now…I dunno.

    • I did not say we paid for that template we downloaded it from some coding forums.

And yes we paid for all other designs at advancedspace.net and now our new one at boxsrv, they are not free templates.

      Proof? themeforest.net

Ive spent my entire saturday resolving the issue now thats it been brought to my attention.
If i genuinely knew that it was another sites template not too mention another VPS provider then why would i use it and bring bad attention to my business.

      • @drmike – you are being too demanding, for one day of work (I assume they only realised they need to change their template after reading this post), it is pretty good that 90% of the website is working, LOL :)

  12. Well we have been that rushed to get it finished to resolve the first problem. I wish people completely unrelated to buyvm would just find something better to do tbh.

  13. But honestly something I do not get it…how much does a hosting template cost? Do people realise how important it is to have a decent website in order to do online business?

    • Do people realise how important it is to have a decent website in order to do online business?

You must be new to these parts. Wait until you see LEA list a site and none of the links work on it. :)

      • Ya, guess I just have not seen enough yet…but it is really like if you step into a restaurant, and it is dark, smelly with flies all over the place, do you think you’ll want to eat there?

        June 10, 2011 @ 8:11 pm | Reply
    • They clearly dont have realise the importance. Right there using a $20 website. When there using a non-unique (themeforest) design it shouts out two things to me:

      1. I do not have the money to invest in my company. — So how are they going to fund there company then, there servers? With Brass Buttons?
      2. Im only starting this up to make a bit of cash on the side. — I dont care, I didn’t put any investment into it, so if it all goes wrong I can just upsticks and leave customers without a service.

Without a Unique website I wouldn’t trust a hosting company. Frankly if you cant afford $200 for a decent unique design you shouldn’t be in this industry.

      Thats just my personal opinion.

    • On the other hand, why can’t people have “original” designs? Even *I* mucked up this blog template myself and I am a software engineer with zero graphics designer gene.

I’ve also commented on the other post that prgmr.com’s “template” is actually quite refreshing and it works. You definitely don’t need web two-point-oh’ish website and good looking call center lady on the home page to sell virtual servers…

      • Don’t get me started on them call center ladys.

        • Yeah. Maybe I should set up a page hosting some LowEndBox girls. Just need some racing car driver + WWE wrestler, right?! I can see the popularity of LowEndBox.com skyrockets after that. Hmm…

      • @LEA: I love the part when you told me how simple it is to start editing on the WordPress template, still remember it well, thanks! The task does look daunting but once people sit down and do it, it is really not that bad, so I guess boxSRV should really try to build their own template if they are a start-up that needs to squeeze every penny in the budget? Or at least put enough modification so that it would not be recognized as a BuyVM-alike, LOL :)

    Comments guys?

    June 10, 2011 @ 8:15 pm | Reply
    • This isn’t the first time our design has been ripped heavily. I’ll be honest, it’s a simple design and I figured it was simple enough to not draw such attention. With that being said, the old VEVPS design was heavily inspired by ours and there’s a guy selling it on WHT. There is a lot of prefab text in it that’s way too close to ours, namely the use of the saying “Awesome Hardware”.

I have a unique way of talking so it makes rips pretty obvious :)

    • Yup, we’re all mean and nasty for catching them at what they did and we should be sent to bed without our dinner.

Anyone else notice that 1) they’re still not giving the link of the “forum” where they downloaded this theme, 2) not stating who this designer is who did up the theme for them, 3) 1 and 2 contradict and 4) he needs to check his grammar.

*sigh* Another provider placing the blame on what they’ve done on everybody but where it belongs: themselves.

      • There is one thing I’ve learned from my time here: If they haven’t gotten it yet, they won’t, no matter how many times you explain things and how simple you break it down for them.

        Move along people. It’s over.

  16. Yes it appears that they have re-spawned their VPS hosting service at VMPort.com. They have asked me to feature that provider again (probably with intention to bypass my 1 offer/provider/30 day limit).

    June 27, 2011 @ 5:55 am | Reply
    • That was not the intention at all and we were completely honest with you regarding this? We simply expanded our locations and lowered the prices, thats all.

  17. I want to make it clearly known that boxsrv.com was never related to our .co.uk business which was started in 2011, it seemed Ashley took it on himself to register the .com cause a lot of shit and that was done with a name exactly the same to ours.

We have however registered the .com so this cannot happen again despite ashley trying to sell it over to us for a stupid amount like 2.5k after his nice trash work!

However we waited for expiration and registered it, so please do not think Ashley is anything to do with our business or activities he sadly stole a name which the original builder of box co uk failed to register and this has cost us slightly with the bad reviews about on it
