LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
This is an INSANE promotion considering their normal price!
Did you consider that maybe their normal price is INSANE to begin with?
$20/mth for 128MB guaranteed is a little much.
Hmm, that’s true.
It’s not that insane for Canada, no. Now that Nixcom is gone, the Canadian market is largely “sustainably priced”, with very, very few LEB-level offers actually *in* Canada. (There are a couple Canadian companies with servers at Burst or Hetzner, but I’m not counting those.)
Their AuP allow IRC on vps but as it seems from their vps page you need to buy “protected vps” in case you want to use it for IRC. This offer as it seems don’t include “irc allowed” vps.
It would be nice if they added some DDOS Protected IRC offers. I’ve been waiting for the $6.50/mth offer to come back in stock :)
Or to allow IRC also on regular packages. $6.50/mth is imho too much if you need vps only for some irc bouncer or so.
Hi Joe,
Just send a email to sales[at]colo-serv[dot]net that will open a ticket in our system.
We will verify if one is available on the DDoS protected network for IRC use. We don’t want to post an offer for only one or two VPS available. Put in the email that you ask for the LEB offer for IRC use.
Regards.
Nixcom.ca is recommending Colo-Serv on the page. But Nixcom is planing to close theris business.
It sounds that”a guilty person conspicuously protests his innocence.”
Martin has been a customer and been recommending colo-serv even before nixcom.ca was closed…
I bought one, Setup was not too bad (15min ca.) – Specs are ok.
Speed to europe is total crap, Disk is very slow.
Else it is not so bad.
Here’s a few test from the node your are on William
Traceroute to bbc.co.uk
Traceroute to Google.com
some speedtest
DD test this one was made on high load at peak hours
This one was made with a normal load out of peak hours
Purchased VPS back on Sept 27th, so i wanted to wait a little while before leaving a comment. I’ve got to say they offer the best customer support i’ve dealt with, EVER. I was having a software issue and they went above and beyond to help me figure out what was wrong. Their network is stable, i use the IRC protected network, and i can stay connected to IRC for weeks without interruption. I dont’ know what to say, but you get what you pay for and this place is definately worth the money. i highly recommend. thanks pierre and alex!!
Thanks for your comment Jeremy, our techs ( Like Pierre ) and engineers do everything to help customers to resolve their problems. I think it’s the base of a hosting business along with the stability of the network.
Glade to hear that you enjoy your server.
Regards.
Nice offer if you have a Canadian presence requirement. Otherwise it’s not attractive to me — and I’m Canadian :)
I get equally good if not better connectivity to the northeast US, and much better prices.
