LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Community Roundup - December 2014

It’s time for another community update! This time I’ll cover December 2014 and highlight some notable events as well as some plans we have for the future.

Holidays

While they technically started in November, December is holiday month and we’ve had thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. We’ve seen some nice offers during Thanksgiving as well as during Christmas and I hope you’ve all enjoyed them. Next year I’m looking to make the holiday season even more interesting, so feel free to send me any feedback for that.

Shared/Reseller hosting trial

Though it had a bit of a bumpy start and the rules were changed after a few days based on valuable community feedback, shared and reseller hosting offers are now allowed on LowEndTalk only if a provider also has an active VPS offering. In a couple of weeks time we’ll be evaluating this and requesting your feedback to see where we’ll go in the future.

New hosts featured on LowEndBox

The following new hosts were featured on LowEndBox:

  1. Berry.pw (though technically a subsidiary of Epidrive)
  2. Media-Hosts
  3. Mean Servers
  4. Viking Layer
  5. IndoVirtue
  6. HostSailor

That’s a lot of new hosts in one month and I hope you guys all appreciate that!

Improvements in posts

We’ve started to slowly improve the offering on LowEndBox and the quality of posts. Almost every post is now written from scratch; this has been different for a while due to time constraints. Unfortunately, copy-pasting posts leads to bad quality posts and it doesn’t do the site much good either.

We’ve also started feverishly denying repeat offers in the helpdesk. We’ve looking to feature different offers each and every time. Reasons to feature a host are: a new location, overhauled product lines, considerably hardware improvements, considerable plan changes, or special pricing/account credits. Minor changes to pricing or offerings are considered repeat offers as are repeated offers for free account credit. I really hope we can diversify LowEndBox more this way. As usual, any feedback is appreciated.

Good move on cracking down on the repeat offers. Providers can post that sort of thing in LET if they want to.

  4. Since you’re welcoming feedback – Reseller/Shared hosting offers will overcrowd the LET/LEB community and will attract many spammers, pointless questions, trollers and will eventually make the space less attractive for VPS related topics and (semi)professionals. May be doing that on a different web site all together like LowEndHost will be better idea

  5. If repeat offers will not be featured, it would still be very helpful if LEB listed them in some way. I doubt I’m the only one who has been putting off giving the VPS route a try until the new year, but there seems to be no good way to use LEB to search across the board to find out what the *current* deals are.

If the site isn’t backed by a domain-specific database (the copy-paste issues imply it isn’t), you should consider it. In particular, I hope to set up redundant hosts in multiple locations, so I’d really like a way to *exclude* cities/countries while looking for a new provider.

  7. Matt:

I have been happy with the service Hostwinds.com is offering. I am not trying to advertise for them but their live support is supreme, just as their hosting. They offer a free month trial with the coupon code 1MONTHFREE.
