LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

DialAServer - £2.79 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Germany

DialAServer Paul from DialAServer emailed me to inform me their 20% off recurring discount sale (as posted on Digital Point). Use promo code DSRVFEB to get life-time 20% off discount, and their “Special” package would be £2.79/month (~USD$4.53).

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 200GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Direct sign up link. Location of the servers is not that obvious on their website and I ended up having to write back to Paul requesting that information. For this offer the server is in Germany with Netdirekt (test IP: 78.159.121.210), and they have other servers in France (OVH), US Scranton (Burst) and Kansas City (Wholesale Internet), with UK coming soon.

DialAServer was last featured here as DialAHost.co.uk and is part of “DialANetwork Ltd” (Company number: 7191737). That might sound big, although Paul signs his email as “Ceo – Technician” which got me a bit worried. DialAHost has been around since late 2009.

    • As with many comments posted here, take them with a grain of salt :) And this is LowEndBox where people buy cheap VPS to set up proxy servers — some might even do that so they can sockpuppet on forums and blogs.

Not suggesting anyone doing that here, BUT server-side IP verification is simply flawed.

      • Last I knew WordPress keeps the IP address of a commenter as part of the comment. I still like the idea of md5 hashing the IP address and outputting it with the comment so we can all see it.

Granted it takes two seconds to change an IP address or run it through a proxy but it’s better than nothing.

But with more things in place, you can catch them by hardware rather than an IP, but I guess they could have a dozen Computers.

The Company was not long registered, and should be a UK Limited Company, if you give me more information I can take a look.

Our contact information is still under DialANetwork but this is still our main trading name, it can be found on our terms of service page.

    • Paul:

No, I am banned, long story short, asking users to message me if they want help with their server, in one thread.

The reviews were not fake, one was done by an ex staff member however, not very clever I must say, however there is another on there which is legit.

I love how two people already brought negativity into this, I have already proved one wrong, lets not make it two.
Please do not post if you do not know much background to what you are saying.

        • I have to agree… I PM’d someone when I had mistakenly took their thread as a request for offers and it was considered “spamming” … I was given a warning. No where near a ban, and I think they would consider that a worse offense?

I find all this “checking company house”, “compare whois info” etc stuff crazy for a product that has a £2.79 price point.

When I buy my £2.79 latte from the local coffee shop I don’t go checking if they have an up-to-date entry with Companies House or whatever.

I’ve procured $10,000/month server contracts from colo providers and not done as much ‘due diligence’ as some of you folks are doing here. Some proportionality would make sense here.

Yes, you might loose £2.79 and your site might go down. If that is a problem perhaps you should spend £10 hosting with Linode or Slicehost?

          February 22, 2011 @ 10:11 pm | Reply
    • @Ben — a few things

      1) Not everyone spends £2.79 on a latte. There are people from parts of the world who can only afford cheap server and buy 29 pence latte that’s already a luxury in their own economy.
      2) You do not entrust your data with your local cafe, but you do with hosting providers. If there’s something wrong with the coffee, you throw it away. If there’s something wrong with the VPS, i.e. gone down and no one replying support tickets, then you get to spend x number of hours re-setup the VPS again elsewhere from backup, assuming you have backups.
      3) It is easier to get refund from brick & mortar cafe. A lot harder when a service is run by college students in dom rooms and has fake contact info on WHOIS.

People have better things to do than finding a reliable hosting provider that don’t go out of business. “Paying more for premium service” is one option, but not all can afford it.

      February 22, 2011 @ 11:47 pm | Reply
      • Paul:

        I quote.

It is easier to get refund from brick & mortar cafe. A lot harder when a service is run by college students in dom rooms and has fake contact info on WHOIS.

Since when were I a student in a dom room? You make me laugh so highly that must be the funniest thing of the year I have heard.
The info was not fake, just not setup correct since no plans were made to open the Companies.

So now lets break it down into FACTS for yourself.

        1) I work probably more hours than you, well maybe not now, I recently worked 70 hours a week until I decided to leave.
        2) I still work however with an online based Company, I also work offline in Blackpool.
        3) I do not live in a ‘dom’ room LOL, how about paying rent for you, the woman and the Dog, not to mention poll tax, electric, gas, water, T.V license and the rest of the things.
        4) I worked and built everything I have from the ground up, with next to nothing but a goal, ambition and passion.
        5) I really don’t appreciate the way the most of the people have acted on here, you have so far been proven to be lying or got your FACTS wrong, it is very stupid, people are so fast to slate someone or some Company, with no evidence to back their mouth up.

Some may call it all talk no action, well I have given the talk and given the action, so less of the comments that are nothing but incorrect.

I also love how a hosting provider is compared to a simple day to day cafe.

        • @Paul — I think you are over-reacting.

Note that I was replying to Ben (see “@Ben” at the beginning of the comment?!). I was replying his comment that “it is crazy to do company check on 2.79 pound hosting”. I was replying the principle, not directed at you.

        • Paul:

I understand, maybe I did over-react, however I don’t wish for people to be saying I am some kid in a dom room, this really gets me going since they are money grabbers who close down in months.

          February 28, 2011 @ 1:37 pm | Reply
  15. Paul:

I just find this all really negative and rather stupid, we have already proven the Company is legit and registered, yet your ‘advanced’ ‘skills’ cannot find that before posting and saying we for a start lie.

Second now people who say we good are faking this.

Now I am selling up or I give up. No fact is, that is to do with a Company that is the main brand, and for a reason totally unreflective on DialAServer nor DialAHost, it is a main brand.

Now if this is all the case, then feel free to not buy one, I believe in the ‘got nothing nice to say, don’t say it’ people with experience with us clearly state we are good and they like us.
We have been around a good 1-2 years now even if that was when we started the main brand.

Believe what you wish, I don’t think I will be getting involved in the silly games for the sake of a £3 server.

  16. Beacuse i’m a client of DialANetwork/DialAHost/DialAServer i though i would review them/ say a few things about them!

I first started using this company beacuse of the SMS payment method, due to bank restrictions. I am with them since november 2010 ( We are in march pretty much so been with them for 5 months ).

While they don’t use the best hardware for their servers ( Core 2 Quad CPUs mostly ) the servers are not overloaded either! I have never had any problem with servers performance, and it does seem it has quite some room to grow!

I have had downtime in my french VPS ( IP: 94.23.155.183 ) it was down for 48 hours due to one hard drive issue, and beacuse of being weekend and OVH not giving the right support! I was always in touch with the support, so i knew it was getting fixed. They credited me with 1 week free of service at the end!

Their support team is awesome, never had any problem with them and the person that i deal with more Paul, is awesome never had any problem with him and he always worked out towards fixing what i asked, and i do allot of tickets.

I have recently been moved from the USA node to Germany, and it the Germany node is also performing really good and i have no problems with it!

    So in resume:

    Support – 10/10
    Uptime – 9/10
    Price – 8/10

I only have good things to say about them.

Nice to see a good comment, we do stock mmany Q9550’s, they are pretty nice.

We have also just got some Phenoms in stock 4 x 3.4GHz, it also seems to perform very well.
Of course our prices are set to be non oversold with plenty of room on the node, however we plan to start putting an extra 1 or 2 on the nodes since we feel they are undersold a little.

We plan to stock up some i7’s shortly, Dual quads, so we are looking forward to our future growth, but of course people must start somewere.

      • Sure.

I don’t have anything against using Core 2 Quads, infact you give plenty of CPU power beacuse the CPU is shared, and i like that ( even though i barely use any CPU anyway )

Keep up the good work :)

  17. I currently have a VPS with DialaHost and have done for around 6 months. I have nothing but praise for the company. Paul response quickly to any support questions. The first day I got my VPS, I made a mistake of buying one with too low ram to effectively run CPanel, Paul saw this and offered a free RAM upgrade to me so that I could effectively run it. I am currently on one of their French nodes and I’ve never been happier.

I think rather than slag a company off you should try them out. You just might be surprised how good they are.

And for all the non-believers out there, here is my IP for you to check: 94.23.102.159
