Via this WHT offer. eFree2Net is currently having a 50% off recurring discount promotion at the moment. Use promo code WHT-openvz to get their “Basic Linux Package” (Ordering Link) for $4.75/month. Here is the spec
- 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
- 20GB storage
- 200GB/month data transfer
- 2 IP addresses
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
On the WHT post it says they have “colocation service with ThePlanet, Softlayer and Seattle”, although the listed IP addresses are ThePlanet/Softlayer in Dallas and Take2Hosting in San Jose. Domain and website both claims to be from 2000, and the design of the website does remind me of sites from that era. Registered by this individual “Nilson Chia” in St. Cloud MN. Or Nilson Sam? Or “Kengteck Chia” from Malaysia? (googling the last one for more details).
They do appear to have servers all over the place.

LEA (LowEndAdmin) is the original founder of LowEndBox and the visionary who gave rise to an entire movement around minimalist, efficient hosting. In 2008, LEA launched LowEndBox with a simple but powerful idea: that it was possible to run meaningful applications, web servers, VPNs, mail servers, and more – on small, low-cost virtual machines with minimal resources.
At a time when most infrastructure discussions were dominated by high-end servers and enterprise platforms, LEA championed the opposite approach: lightweight Linux distros, self-managed servers, open source software, and thoughtful optimization. This philosophy gave birth to the term “Low End Box”, which would come to define a new genre of hosting tailored to developers, tinkerers, and budget-conscious users around the world.
Through LowEndBox and its companion forum, LowEndTalk, LEA built the foundation for what would become one of the most active and enduring communities in the hosting world, prioritizing knowledge-sharing, transparency, and accessibility.
After several years of nurturing the site and community, LEA stepped away from active involvement, passing the torch to a new generation of admins, contributors, and moderators. Today, LEA remains a respected figure in the LowEnd ecosystem, credited with launching a platform and philosophy that continues to influence thousands of infrastructure providers and users globally.
LowEndBox’s legacy, and its thriving community, is a direct result of LEA’s original vision.
The website is blocked in China
Shanghai, China: Packets lost (100%) 74.86.136.156
Probably because it has the word “free” in the domain name. 😉
@insraq — that’s exactly what some of you guys buy cheap VPS for — to get pass the great firewall 🙂
@LEA: Yes. In fact most people would go for Burst as their plan is so cheap and the bandwidth is good. I’m surprised that great firewall becomes so famous 🙂
SL and T2 DC have good connection from China, but I have no idea why their website is blocked. Maybe @Gary you are right.
LowEndAdmin do you know any vps seller that host on OVH?
@Densets — not necessarily OVH, but use France tag.
@ Densets – XVPS and PingVPS are two i have current experience of right now. Happy with both.
Early 2001, it was a portal site. 2002 shows more of a host site.

I placed an order last night at efree2net but it was canceled because im from ‘kuwait’ and they suspect fraud … which is the first time I get such a treatment for such a reason so is this a really good reason to cancel an order? and is there any other hosts that would do so ? so I can save my time and money instead of wasting it on some racists 🙂
