eNetSouth - $22/Year 160MB OpenVZ VPS in Birmingham AL

Updated December 2011 — Both eNetSouth.com and eNSCloud.com stopped resolving since 11 November 2011. It has been confirmed that Brandon has done a runner.

eNetSouth It seems many people were confused where eNetSouth colo their servers. Birmingham — this one in Alabama in the southeast region of United States. On Google Maps. Brandon is running the yearly plan special again on their LowEndBox OpenVZ plan. You can order it here at $22/year which gives you

  • 160MB guaranteed/200MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Test IP: 216.180.128.10. You can pay by either PayPal or credit card. They have pretty straight forward AUP here — no spam, no copyright violation, no hacking and no abuse. They also have their “LEB KVM” plan for $7/month with 400MB memory, 45GB storage, 1TB/month data transfer and located also in Birmingham. Sign up link here.

eNetSouth has been around for a while and first started as eNSCloud doing VMWare hosting. I guess the main complain here is the support — there are still unsupported issue especially rDNS updates. But otherwise stable servers.

Disclaimer: LowEndTalk.com is currently hosted on a VMWare instance provided by eNetSouth.

While the actual VPS it self is spot on, the service is seriously lacking. I’m on the $26/year plan. Before that I had a Vmware service(same story there). Brandon is a great guy, definitely knows how to run a great setup but support is the biggest pitfall.

Do these guys still operate with that clunky custom billing panel that seems to “lose” tickets and lock you out constantly? That (and so-so overall service with VMWare VPS) was the reason I left them earlier in the year.

I haven’t used the Vmware service since the initial promotion. How ever the OpenVZ service runs on the standard Solus/WHMCS set up. So the tickets aren’t lost, just not replied to.

        • Again — a problem not resolved is still a problem. But saying that we did not respond to your tickets is not true.

I fully admit the root issue is not fixed but I told you that I was working on it. It’s not like you have been asking, asking and I’ve just blown you off.

Have been customer from almost two years back. There some times that I could have made complaint but overall I really can not considering the stability. Stability is my wish over anything else and I find it here.

I agree in part. I have Hyper-V and VMWare VPS with them which are very stable and I have great uptime. However I don’t have any access to the VPS in case of issues — there are no things like start/reboot nor console access. Your only option is send an e-mail to support. Fortunately I never needed support for that VPSs but recently I ordered a VPS OpenVZ/SolusVM/WHMCS with them and guess what? The VPS is unstable with tons of extended outages and the support tickets are ***never*** replied. Even though the Hyper-V and VMware are great the support proved not dependable and I’m preemptively moving on.

  3. I’ve been an eNSCloud customer for more than a year now (since August 2010), and I’ve got a VMware VPS in San Jose. The server is rock solid and reliable, and my only concern is the difficulty in getting reverse DNS set. I originally had a VPS in Chicago and got rDNS setup there with no problem, but since moving the VPS to San Jose, I haven’t been able to get the old rDNS removed or the new rDNS set. From what Brandon has said, it seems like they’ve had difficulty getting the DC to set it for them.

Anyway, I’d recommend them with the caveat about the rDNS.

I thought you were with kazila? what is the need for more than one provider and what others do you have?

      September 1, 2011 @ 8:56 am | Reply
    • I’ve got a custom failover system setup that uses 3 VPSs, a Master and Slave that are kept in sync, and a Controller to monitor them. I’m using a Kazila VPS and eNSCloud VPS for the Master and Slave, and a Lightwave VPS for the Controller. I’ve also got a BuyVM VPS for testing, so 4 total right now. I’ve cut back :)

If you need an east cost leb, i’d go with alienvps. Sadly I pay 19$, as they even managed to lower the price to 15$ webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1078076.
I have been with alienvps for a few month, very stable and good support (1 day). Enough disk, ram to run a normal websites even using apache.

I think maybe you look at where your service is (years) and then reflect on your post. When it is true that you have been respected by aliens for two years then promote. Otherwise I will stay where I know is reliable.

    • Multiple VPS:

I have to 2nd this comment: AlienVPS has been suprisingly good; eNetSouth, suprisingly not.

Used VPS’s with at least 4 providers; almost 1 year with multiple VPS’s from Alien (NYC, Las Vegas) and 6 months with VMware based VPS with eNetSouth and at least 6 months with 2 other providers.

Brandon talks a good game but does not deliver (on support or service after the sale); he might have a chance if he had even 1 more person on staff. Performance via one backend provider was so bad the VPS had to be moved to another provider and then the promises continued. When it is good (infrequently), it is great; when it is bad, it is horrible. When it is horrible, you will thank yourself for having mirrors on other providers.

If support is important (or timely response to a ticket/inquiry), eNetSouth is not the choice for you.

No affiliation with any of the providers mentioned above except having been a paying customer.

      • Nice flamebait material you have there. So I’m going to try and dance around it as tactful as possible.

I guess since this is a typical LowEndBox hatefest on eNetSouth I will be as clear as possible.

        1) There is more working than just me. So cancel out on that comment.

        2) Talking about the experience with the other datacenter shows me that you were a customer between Jan – April of this year when I had the bright idea to venture out with another Chicagoland/LA DC. The uptime over a running 30 day period from the middle of March/April averaged around 93% – If you figure in their massive packet loss issues then it would be a lot worse than that.

So yeah if you were a customer during those times with that DC then I apologize and agree with your statements 100%. I learned a valuable lesson during that time.

Coming close to 6 months with them now in San Jose. I’ve been consistently happy with the speeds of the service, but i’m most impressed with the reliability of it. Support has been fine for me – not instant responses, but i get a reply back in a few hours.

They still use the clunky custom support panel. I just email them instead – seems to work fine.

Well I got maybe 8 VPS from them and all of them are running great. The only thing I do not like is their billing/control panel my vps are all vmware and reloading your OS is not as easy as SolusVM. I am also having a hard time monitoring my invoices because of their old billing system. I wish they could migrate my billing account to WHMCS :) Aside from that their servers are super stable.

  9. A little offtopic (vmware services). Anyone having problems to access to the San Jose Vcenter?

    September 1, 2011 @ 9:54 pm | Reply
    • I am having problem with any vcenter, San Jose or Chicago. The latency just makes it unusable to me, and it usually times out anyway.

Fortunately for me, Brandon set up the OS so I don’t really need to worry about it. I just can’t see myself making change to things on VMWare.

    • I don’t use vCenter often, so I hadn’t noticed it, but I tried it just now and wasn’t able to even connect to it to login. It’s mainly nice to have so you know you could force a reboot if something gets stuck, though in practice that’s pretty rare.

      • SoftLayer issue with this one. Ping ovz4.enetsouth.com and watch the 75% packet loss. I’m usually not one to air my dirty laundry in public but SoftLayer San Jose is not working out well for us. Yes, we have been working with them for several hours while they “try” and find the issue. These nodes with have with them have been nothing but trouble since June of this year.

    • We do not offer yearly packages at any of our other locations. However, I am trying hard to get a solution in place where we can manage rDNS easier. It’s a simple task but when you don’t have the zones delegated to your DNS servers and there is not any automation from the DC it is a pain.

    Hi Brandon,

I purchased a VMware VPS back in May and I haven’t had a working system yet. After raising a ticket and repeatedly emailing you and support nothing has been done. You haven’t responded to any of my recent emails.

4 Months is unreasonable to resolve an issue where a VPS doesn’t even power on. I have given up and all I ask is you return my money as you haven’t provided any form of service. My ticket number was 2311.

  17. Hello all,

I got on with this vps company a little bit ago, I signed up the $22 plan. I must say after reading some of the post here, I had to put in a response. I really like the service of the vps. I need more ram then I have but that is my own fault for being so cheap. When I signed up I had issues connecting to the vps, I put in a ticket and I had a response in 20 minutes, It was 1 am central time. The response of the provider was to the point and gave me the info I needed and then some. I then put in a ticket asking for more options for the vps and I never got a response back. This is a unmannaged vps, I think stands for what it is. The speed of this services is great. The cpanel is great has everything you need for the vps, I am looking for a good deal on a 512mb vps, if I can’t find a cheaper better deal I am going to stick with this provider. Thanks

I think most people agree that the VPS itself, when provisioned works reasonable well. Its the additional service thats a let down(i.e. rDNS). Have you opened a ticket recently?

I think that isn’t about managed or unmanaged services, is about sales, and you must get a response.

The San Jose VM’s are only online for < 24 hours to allow data pull. Brandon was not involved in this, rather a user on here/WHT was able to contact 8×8 and get it done.
