LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

eNS Cloud - $4.45 200MB VMWare VPS Exclusive Offer

Updated December 2011 — Both eNetSouth.com and eNSCloud.com stopped resolving since 11 November 2011. It has been confirmed that Brandon has done a runner.

eNS Cloud Brandon from eNS Cloud emailed me about their LowEndBox exclusive offer. The cheap VMWare VPS appears to be a good seller for them, and now they are offering even cheaper (and a bit smaller) VMWare packages. For $4.45/month you can get the following Linux Cloud VPS:

  • 200MB memory
  • 30GB storage
  • 1500GB/month data transfer
  • VMWare

They have also reduced the pricing from their current 256MB and 384MB servers to fit into LowEndBox’s threshold.

  • 256MB Linux Cloud VPS — 30GB Storage, 1500GB transfer — $5.45/month
  • 384MB Linux Cloud VPS — 30GB Storage, 1500GB transfer — $6.99/month

You need to use this ordering link to access the special price. I think this offer will expire by the end of August like their current WHT offer (if not earlier). They are now also accepting PayPal payments. Chicago servers.

This is most likely another one node host. Domain registered for a year, and yet it’s 3m Alexa, from google it seems they advertised nowhere besides WHT. I’d stay away from this offer.

The fact they’re running IIS scares me a little bit. If we charitably assume they know what they’re doing (oh look, both nameservers allow recursive queries…), people who are competent with Windows hosting rarely know their way around Linux. Or vice-versa, for that matter, obviously, though people who are competent with Linux hosting probably don’t run IIS often…

  10. Wow – you guys are a tough bunch. :)

@Jackk – Noted. I also agree that the site needs a redesign.

@Minh@Minh Meo’s Blog – Will you let me know the first two octets of your IP address?

@eLohkCalb – Same, will you let me know the first two octets of your IP address?

@Tom – I’m going to extend some professionalism to you even though you did not extend it to me. While I can understand your reservations we are most certainly not a one node host. We have multiple nodes in Chicago. Our secondary NS (ns2.enscloud.com) is on a virtual instance on our server in Dallas, TX. Do traceroutes to ns2.enscloud.com everything we use for production is with ColoCrossing. Please note the Dallas node is only for secondary DNS, backup SMTP and disaster recovery. We are in the works to get services up in San Jose, CA as well. We also have enough infrastructure to impress most anyone in Alabama (thats where we started) but due to network issues we are moving from there. Look at the domain we started with http://www.enetsouth.com — its registered a little longer than enscloud.com — we started out as most in this business doing regular hosting but decided in the long term to move away from that. Yes, you are correct that I primarily advertised at WHT. It seemed logical to do that. Thats why I bought the membership. Where else would you rather see me advertise that would ease your concerns? Hopefully not where throwing some money in a bucket will get you up on the list even if do not deserve to be there. Please don’t take this response as hateful but I think it is a tad premature to say “I’d stay away from this offer’ when you do not know what we have to offer.

@Chris34 – We will be here.

@Mike – While I agree with the majority of your statement, I am failing see any concern with how if our corporate/management site is hosted on IIS makes any statement about our ability to perform? I thought one of the most logical advantages of a VPS solution is so that the customer is able to have 100% control (and OS choice) of their environment. So what I use for those two sites has no impact on what a customer of eNetSouth chooses for his hosting environment. I feel the need for me to tell you what OS the ESX hypervisor uses is not needed. And while appreciated, I can assure you that charity is not needed for me to know what I am doing. :)

I appreciate the comments and constructive criticism. If you have anymore questions/concerns please let me know.

Well you’re willing to offer a discount here in the comments, and according to a WHT review you doubled somebody’s RAM for free, so why would anyone bother paying these prices when you’re giving out discounts but no in public?

No point in paying more than everyone else.

    August 6, 2010 @ 7:33 am | Reply
  21. @Khasar — I have no control over what somone posts. Good or Bad. How about this for a change. Some honesty. I did double his RAM. However he also purchased a very, very large amount of storage in with that deal. He has a lot of movies and needed room to keep them.

So — yes, I did double his RAM bundled with a storage purchase.

Lets look at this logically — Customer purchases VPS.. Customer needs more storage — Customer agrees to storage quote with addition to RAM. I agree.

I will sweeten the deal. Purchase a VPS from me using the link provided in the deal. Open a ticket to double your ram and I will do it free of charge. I would do this for you or anyone else coming from here. This offer stands as long as I make the offer availble.

How is that for being fair? All I want is to provide a excelent service to my customers. I will put my money where my mouth is. Will you?

    Thank you
    Brandon

  22. I wanted to add this is retro — meaning if you have purchased a server from me this week since this offer has been posted using the link.. Open a ticket to double your ram. It will be done.

Even though the review post talked about above was part of a whole seperate deal I refuse to let someone make me to look like I treat customers differently. It’s just not a good way to do business. Regardless of the truth.

  40. Hi. I just received my VPS login info, looks very good so far.
Personal opinion: VMWare is better than other virtualization solution, providing you almost a “dedicated machine” (you can run on your own kernel)

@Brandon: If I will delete/recreate the machine, that will keep “double my RAM” bonus ? :)

@Brandon: Can I add a second IP to my VPS ?

    August 7, 2010 @ 5:56 am | Reply
  41. That is corret. You are free to run any kernel you choose. We do not get into the kernels with our images — They are base stock images straight from the site.

One note to keep in mind. I know this for fact on CentOS 5.4+.. The kernel was compiled with a 1000hz tick. Which is OK in a normal world. However, in a virtual world the 1000hz clock is rough on the instance. The kernel will consume a lot of resources (high load shown in TOP even when it is not doing anything) trying to keep track of what the interupts are doing. So make sure if it is CentOS that you keep the divider=10 in the grub.conf file on the kernel line. This would apply to any OS that is compiled at 1000hz. Some kernels even are compiled to accept a NoHZ option as well.

So if any of you are looking at TOP and see a load of hanging around 3 to 5 even though the server is not doing anything we will need to make sure you kernel can support 100hz. All of them do.

@Sorin — Sure, since you took advantage of it during the promotion I will keep my word as long as you own the account! Open a ticket with me if you want your image redone.

@Sorin — Yes, additional IP allocations are $1.00/mo open a ticket and I will take care of it.

    Brandon

I guess i got this offer wrong

I only got an ip (206.217.138.144) wich resolvs to a customer domain (www.greenkneesadventures.com) and only a “username” to login

no root access at all seems this is shared space with a shared ip not a VPS-container

I wonder how i shall point my domain to this when the RDNS dont match

Seems i misread the offer here…to bad

  46. @Jim Snow

I do not want to say your are incorrect because the customer is always right? Right?

So I will help you out.

206.217.138.144 is not even provisioned yet on our network. I also see that you are correct that RDNS resolving to that. However, 206.217.138.144 is not your IP. So that does not matter.

Have we made a mistake on telling you what your IP is? Let’s see.

Also, since you say you just got a login that tells me that you are maybe the Ubuntu customer I set up recently.

You do realize by default the root login is locked in Ubuntu? It’s nature of the OS.

    Please see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

I can assure you (as well as others can that have read this and have subscribed to our service) this is not a shared space. This is also not a VPS container. We don’t do containers where they virtualize the kernel.

This is a true virtualized instance. It’s the next best thing to having a true dedicated box.

One thing too it would help if you would let me know who you are. Also, since you have not opened a ticket I can’t identify you. It would help to try that before you make assumptions and post incorrect statements.

I’m here to help if you will let me know who you are!

    August 8, 2010 @ 2:18 am | Reply
  48. @ Jim Snow — OK – That is better. I know who you are now.

    1) RDNS is being corrected by our ISP. This is a new block we had to get due to exhausting the previous one. It might take 12-24 hours for everything to propagate.

    2) We did not lock it.. Ubuntu 10.4 does this. Not eNetSouth. I assume others have compromised the built in security of the OS by enabling it from the way it was intended. That would scare me more.

However, if you read in the document from Ubuntu.com: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

Scroll down to where it says “Enabling the root account”. They tell you how to do it. Or we will be happy to do it for you if requested.

Please let me know if you need any assistance.

  53. @Jim Snow – I do admit that if I did not know that is how Ubuntu is out of the box then I would assume that. I can assure you we don’t do business any way but legit. So if you feel something is not right I appreciate the call out.

On a side note. We give out root on other images because that is how they are out of the ISO. Ubuntu is just that way and we leave it baseline for customers to customize to their liking.

  67. @Josh — send me a email brandonc@enetsouth.com and let me know your panel login. And I can give you a update on your server. I can’t find a “Josh” in our user DB.

  73. Does anyone make “SNAPSHOT MANAGER” & “FLASH KVM” in enscloud control panel work?
They two items do nothing while clicking. I’m waiting for the solution before deploying my site.

I haven’t been a customer of eNS cloud long but so far I’m impressed. The VM itself is fast and responsive. The support has been very good. Overall I’m very happy with this service.

Had a flaky start, but the support staff is incredibly helpful and got me on my way! Fast box and great service for a cheap price. Couldn’t recommend more!

  77. @Brandon: Strange, I couldn’t find the $4.45 for 200MB/1.5TB offer. 256MB/1TB for $5.99 by default instead.

When browsing to http://www.enscloud.com/, I get the following:

HTTP Error 403.6 – Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    :(

I’m just connecting from home over a dynamic IP from my ISP in New Zealand.

Absolutely amazing customer service – if you don’t get your VPS from Brandon and team then you are missing out. This is a genuine comment from a real client!

  80. I wanted to let everyone know that we have a resolution in place for being able to manage your instance better. This was the #1 complaint we received from customers. Support sent out email today to all customers with instructions on how to get logged on.

    Thanks everyone!
