eNS Cloud - $6.95 400MB VMWare VPS Exclusive Offer

Updated December 2011 — Both eNetSouth.com and eNSCloud.com stopped resolving since 11 November 2011. It has been confirmed that Brandon has done a runner.

eNS Cloud Brandon from eNetSouth Cloud emailed me an exclusive offer for the LowEndBox readers that won’t be available anywhere else (except countless number of sites ripping of content here I guess). Here is the Ordering Link, and for $6.95/month this is what you will be getting:

  • 400MB memory
  • 20GB storage
  • 10Mbps unmetered bandwidth
  • VMWare vSphere

Chicago servers with generous bandwidth. Lots of operating systems to choose from, and customers are free to provide their own ISO if the OS is not available from their list. It’s VMWare so comparable to Xen HVM where you can install your own OS running distribution’s stock kernel. The promotion will last until the end of September.

  1. Their whois database, tell me that the domain will expired soon.

Is it still safe for us to buy any VPS from them?

    /dev/sda1:

I’ve been keeping an eye on it, and there have been some periods of slow downs, but Brandon was quick to look into it when I emailed him.

    September 6, 2010 @ 5:15 pm | Reply
  16. @Mike — Some of the service is managed using our in-house panel. The actual VM control is done through the vCenter web interface.

Thanks for the hdparm results, that can’t be good if their SAN is only doing 50MB/s. Then again its only a low end vps.

I have fixed your vCenter logins. With the holiday yesterday we were short handed most all weekend. So there were some delays. I do not have an excuse for that at all. What they say is true however, it is resolved. The reason there is a delay is we have a problem with a script that does it @ account create.
Well, it is supposed to. Sometimes it does not happen and we have to do it manually.

Thank you and I am sorry for your frustration.

  27. Yes consider it is real hardware virtualization and not a jail/container, 50MB/s is pretty good (compare to say, Amazone EC2). You get much better IO throttling than OpenVZ as well.

Going back to my DNS question earlier, like some VPS providers do you have IP’s we use for nameservers or do we have to use our own VPS’ IP? Do you have an easy way to handle DNS for say… MX, CNAME, etc on the VPS’ IP/main domain? … and I’m speaking from a no control panel (like cpanel or directadmin) stand point.

ServerComplete has a nice setup as far as DNS goes, and I guess I’m asking if you have something similar.

    September 16, 2010 @ 11:40 pm | Reply
  33. @Eric – I don’t know how I missed your questions. I’m sorry.

When I started this I was always thinking that since a lot of my first customers in the past (not cloud or vps customers just site hosting) tended to use 3rd party DNS they would do the same or host DNS out of their instance. I’m starting to think I should have implemented a option to manage DNS off of ns1.enscloud.com, ns2.enscloud.com for our VPS customers. I have had a lot of requests for this and I think it would be worth the project time to add that functionality.

A simple front end like dynDNS broken down by domain should not be too much trouble.

Is this something you are looking for?

  34. Eric:

Basically, yes. I can edit named/bind myself if I have to, but sometimes it’s just too big of a headache, so something like that would help.

Out of curiosity, if I were to order now, would there be any chance of having it setup tonight? It’s about 8:30PM where I am now, and if I can get it setup and my sites moved by tonight, I can cancel my current VPS (it’s up for renewal)

  57. @Daniel, @CuriousUser:

I called PayPal this afternoon and I explained to them that possible customers are questioning why they have to provide a card for payment in order to setup my PayPal subscription for service. He explained to me that PayPal requires the use of a card to “justify fund availability” in the event the subscriber does not have the money in their PayPal account. He said if a subscription is created and the PayPal account does have the funds inside PayPal then it will always use that. If the subscriber does not then it uses the card method. He said PayPal always defaults to using PayPal funds before using a alternative payment method.

I continued to ask if there is some way I could change a setting to always allow them to just use a subscription without it and he said no, that it is performing the way it should.

So if you always have funds in PayPal — it will always use it. Otherwise it will use your alternate funding. He said the only other way is for me to bill using PayPal every month manually. Six months ago that would have been possible but we have the number of customers now that we can’t simply track it. It would be this way with me or any other host that allow PayPal Payments.

Sorry for getting back to you on this but I have been working on or San Jose and UK nodes today. A lot going on around here this week.

  64. I wish they had something where when a user creates a account for service then we auto invoice PayPal using a automated method and PayPal just takes it out of the users account. If the funds are not there then notify the customer and try again in a couple of days. If the customer never funds PayPal then we treat it as a cancel.

In all honesty, I prefer to bill clients using a debit/credit. A automated script sends a batch to authorize.net daily and then our merchant account handles the rest. But I know I’m cautious to give my card # out just anywhere on the net and choose to use PayPal because of the privacy. But if it was not because so many customers choose PayPal — I would not deal with the complications it brings.

Example — I have two potential customers here that will not do business with me because they are forced to do the card entry. Just does not make sense that PayPal would do that.

And about eNSCloud, they have lots of issues in their Chicago-DC-Two. San Jose might be good, LEA has one there with good I/O. I have a ticket open with them for last 16 days, sent repeated reminders but nothing worked.
eNSCloud started well but failing now. On front-page they are saying that they “refuse to oversell”. But probably now they are low on resources.

I am using vCentre windows client (not the web-based one). I have found swapped memory and shared memory across VMs. That is a sign of oversell/low-RAM because VMware only share pages if it is out of RAM. The RAM is not set as “Reserved”, you can find it swapped any time.

But from CPU and network and uptime point of view they are quite great. But disk I/O less than 3MB/s is a serious bottleneck. Swapping RAM with this I/O kills the VM.

Support turnaround has degraded heavily in last few months.

From my side I would flag eNSCloud as “Risky”.

    • Mine in San Jose is still working fine. Doing a `dd` at around 130MB/sec. Maybe there’s a disruptive client in the Chicago node, but it is still a worry if the provider cannot handle it promptly.

      • Amyt:

Its going on for a long time. Initially support(that was 2 months back) admitted that it is due to SAN issue. And I have never seen it to come back to normal. Now it is terrible, unusable. The last ticket is open for 16 days – no action even with repeated reminders.

LEA, I have made is comment duplicate post (it is in club-uptime-offer-page too). Just to keep things together (where it belongs) what I thought justified.

        • Yup no problem. I noticed that. One request that I sent out to Brandon (on rDNS of the IP address) also got unanswered for ~2 weeks. Still in holiday session I guess? Mine is certainly not critical, but I can imagine it would be a lot more frustrated if your box is slowly dying.
