FiberVolt - $20/Year 128MB OpenVZ VPS in Phoenix

FiberVolt October offer from Victor @ FiberVolt20% off recurring discount on their OpenVZ VPS plans. A little bit less discount than their August offer, but at $20/year it’s still pretty decent for a low end “128 Volts” that has

  • 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 100GB/month data transfer
  • 1 vCPU core
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Direct sign up link with promo code filled. Payment is PayPal-only. Their next plan up, “256 Volts”, is $5.20/month after the discount.

FiberVolt started selling VPS service in April this year, and they were using i2B in San Diego at the time. However all the new nodes are based in Phoenix with PhoenixNAP since their previous offer (test IP: 209.188.29.131).

From extreme RAM to a tiny year VPS! What will LEB do next? A 384MB quarterly plan, yes…

I’d like to see how these perform over other yearly plans out there ;)

This is a pretty good vps. Bought their last offer at 18.75 with double disk and bandwidth (over a month ago).

Only complaint would be that for a few weeks there were some network stability problems at the DC and these have since been corrected.

These guys are total scammers — an accidental double payment, as they sent me a invoice and expected me to pay that, then the automatic payment took another payment, resulted in double payment and suspension of my account for trying to get one payment back. Ask for a refund, and they fight you tooth and nail about it.

I got the 128 Volts ($25/year – minus the coupon here) plan with the intention of running nagios in a different place than the rest of my hosts.
I ordered on Oct-16, payed by PayPal, chose Ubuntu 10.04 and the server was ready in minutes.
Except: it had no network access.
I tried re-installing through the control panel.
I tried switching to Ubuntu 11.04 and Debian 6 (all 32-bit).
    Ubuntu only had an

    lo

interface. Debian had no interfaces set up at all.

    Ubuntu 10.04/11.04

    # cat /etc/network/interfaces
    # Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
    # /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.

    # The loopback network interface
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback

    Debian 6.0.2

    # cat /etc/network/interfaces
    # Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
    # /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.

I tried several common interface names, but none worked.
Additionally, it appears that the OpenVZ network driver is not loaded:

    # lsmod | grep vzeth
    #

      I hit Post too quickly.
I opened a support ticket, but it looks like I am limited to one response every 24 hours.
They suggested it is a problem with the particular IP address assigned to the container and they could change it, but so far, nothing.

I do not know how it is fibervolt?
I made two ticket, but such a long time did not return.
The biggest problem is that the VPS disk is very slow, slow to unacceptable.

    root@sunsea:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=4k oflag=dsync
    4096+0 records in
    4096+0 records out
    268435456 bytes (268 MB) copied, 372.831 s, 720 kB/s

Prior to their customer service ticket issued to explain the situation, the customer said it was a technical problem, to address.
I request a replacement node. But no reply.

I wouldn’t hold my breath. These guys are amateurs — at best. One of them had to leave the country (being the US).
