LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

Forever Hosting - $19.95/Year 256MB OpenVZ VPS in LA

Updated February 2012: Forever Hosting is unfortunately, not forever. It died somewhere in 2011, and it’s homepage has been showing cPanel login page for a while.

Forever Hosting Michael from Forever Hosting emailed me a few days ago about their special promotion on their Los Angeles nodes. Works out to be $19.95/Year (~$1.66/month), or $35/2 years. Use this link to order, and here is the spec

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 35GB storage
  • 500GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers based in Los Angeles CA (US West Coast, good for Asia-Pacific users). Forever Hosting actually hasn’t been around forever — they were founded in 2010 with history back in 2008. Mixed reviews here at LowEndBox.com, but Michael has been quite active replying comments on their previous offer.

Domain registered August 2010, NS on adjacent IP addresses. Old offer pages on WHT have all disappeared, and their user account there is inaccessible — which could mean bad things if WHT moderators did some research and find something fishy.

Had a small conflict that turned into drama from their side the size of a family divorce. Very unprofessional behaviour from their staffmember(s).

That’s why I know that they, with that state of mind and professionality will not reach that far.

I avoid these guys at all cost and like to make you all aware not to fall in this huge black hole.

And I tried a lot of VPS providers, REALLY a lot — I almost kind of expected crappy customer service and it surprised me a lot to see that those cheap providers are mostly kind aswell — Then I entered the dungeon called “Forever Hosting” ( which by the way, I found their website template on the first page of google hits on “Free webhosting template”, it’s the one with “one stop shop” on it. ) and my perspective totally changed on VPS hosting.

I’m just ending it here, even thinking about this hosting makes me puke.

        • Hello,

I’m sorry you feel that way. But our site is NOT off a “Free webhosting template” If you did look you could find it on a other site that we paid about $30.00 for it. That way we can pass our great deals to our clients. Yes we may need a new website here soon and I will talk with our team about it. But other then that I don’t see why you hate us soo much. It maybe because you spam off our server and did not like the way we talk to spammers?

Anyways If you have any REAL questions do let us know!

Great offer in terms of only price, if I trust this company will last long -given the forced yearly payment (not even 6 month)- I would get it. But I think it is good anyway for backup use, given the space.

Oh dont get me wrong, I have a server with you. I didnt touch it though. Performance is pretty good when I tested it, the problem is your way of doing business.

I got your web template for free on my hard disk, in a legal way. ( everyone else can too )
Wanted to create a parody on your hosting, but felt like you would die on your own anyway.

P.s. If you want to talk to me personally to set things straight, I’ll open a ticket this week — IF ITS ONLINE THIS TIME.

I agree with Ztc about their way of doing business. Over the past few months I’ve come to the following conclusion and this is just my opinion based on my experience alone and should not affect your statutory right.

Their service has been good up until a recent move which I believe that all of their customers have been moved to a single node and the disk performance is so terrible, I feel like the sucker in a relationship with an uninterested partner.

I’ve also seen I only get replies in the evening which means they must have a day job outside of running this so called “business”.

When they don’t know an answer, when they can’t be bothered to read tickets or even resolve problems, they won’t bother to respond until a week later. I honestly believe they wait hoping we resolve the issue ourselves or we just go away.

I have 3 VPS with them for myself and 2 other clients under their own names. I’m not going into detail so they can identify me and hold a grudge but to sugar coat it here’s something funny for you that happened in the last few weeks. Under 1 clients account, we opened a ticket that had an advanced technical question; client 2 had an average question but was more of asking for advice and wouldn’t count as part of their service or responsibility on an unmanaged plan (granted); and the third was about rdns.

7 days after client 1 created a ticket, client 2 created a ticket, and 4 days after client 2, client 3 created a ticket. Within 8 hours, while none of the other tickets were responded to, client 3 was done, responded to and closed. 4 days after, client 2 was responded to with a bunch of links that came up in the top 10 results in Google. At least they tried so that’s what matters here. But Mr Client 1. Wow. 4 weeks after it’s creation it was closed. The moral of this story is, they will respond to easy problems immediately. Whereas my somewhat success in business has taught me, if you don’t know the answer, just say, because an HONEST person, is a PAID person. Don’t shit on the mouths that feed you Forever Hosting. Without us, your customers, you are nothing.

They will issue updates, moves etc without thinking or testing, and hope for the best. They don’t realise that things ain’t as seamless as that. It may work for one client, or a test VPS you have that’s not even a production server, but doesn’t mean it will work for everyone else. Michael needs to apply logic to avoid coming off stupid.

After proof reading I’ve realised I’ve had so much saga I could list many more problems. So many that come February, I won’t be renewing.

Also you should know they have a habit of closing tickets for you. Because they are mind readers. Forever Hosting, if you’re reading, I don’t care if it makes your ticket list easier to manage, if I’m not done, it stays open until I say otherwise.

All I know is, they’re selling which means they want to make money. If they want to make money they need to focus and work at it. There’s no such thing as easy money and (excuse the generalization) anybody successful will tell you the only route to success is by working at it full time and giving your all in. Half arse work gets you half arse income.

Michael should take notes from Frantech. Even though Fransisco talks like he knows what he’s doing and has no manners, at least he responds in a timely fashion WITH RESULTS.

          Rant shutdown.

How does that not matter? You may feel however you want to about us But if you have no server or not even a client then there is no use to post comments about us when you don’t even know us. AM i right? I guess we will just show you when we are here in two or three or even five years later! I know how we run I know how we keep moving If you can’t see we are fine then you just need to move on to another host that WILL run off!

That is a stupid response. Key rule to running a company is being able to respond effectively – learn it.

I don’t engage in this low profit, demanding customers, type of market anymore. I’m more engaged in software and niche network services. Everyone at this stage predicts years and years because its what we all hope. But the fact is – you are not near 1 year yet. One financial quarter is a long and important time – promoting annual and even two year plans at this stage isn’t wise until you have succeeded your first complete financial year or even your first effective two years to demonstrate you can continue it on.

Your response is childish and immature, start acting like you run a company.

I don’t have a test IP of our LA server at this time. I will later today for you. If you still want one do open a sales ticket with us and we are more then happy to pass it out. At this time we only allow TUN/TAP within our Kernel, We feel PPTP is not as safe to run with OpenVZ. We are looking to add it but need to make sure it will work with our setup.

      • Jason:

Hi, Michael. I got one VPS from you. But the TUN/TAP device doesn’t work. When I execute:
        cat /dev/net/tun

        The output is:
        cat: /dev/net/tun: Permission denied

And I cannot setup any IP tunnel, no matter what mode it is: sit/gre/ipip. And there’s no IPv6 address at all.

I guess the kernel on the host machine is TOO old. You have to update it and reconfigure OpenVZ to give the guest OS TUN device, IPv6 address and IP tunnels. Without these vital requirements, the value of the VPS is heavily depreciated. Thanks!

Tested the server I have with them, and it’s pathetic.
Fresh install, login takes ~30 seconds, continuous random disconnects.
Latency pasted 6 pm is 10 times worse somehow.
Updating or installing anything takes 2 hours with yum to complete instead of the usual minute.

If you don’t believe me, you can contact me and test the server yourself — I have no use for it anyway.

I got one in London and haven’t had the problem with logins. Maybe disable reverse lookup in your sshd config. Yum update does take hours though, and I had to uncomment out some lines in /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo to get it to work.

I don’t think all budget are useless. As personally having 4, 3 of them works with amazing performance/uptime and 1 with not bad performance/uptime :)

I’d be cautious when ordering this package. Apparently, I’ve already used my 500 GB of bandwidth. My 90% usage email was sent 8 hours before my VPS was suspended, which means they said I used 50 GB in 8 hours. The best part? My VPS only hosts a few files, the largest is a few kb

    • Hello Eric,

And how do you think this is our fault? We have SolusVM installed like every other host and it’s upto date So again not sure how you think it’s our software we use. I have told you in the ticket I would start by looking at log’s to see or install something to watch your bandwidth.

    • Just to follow up. I have sent a bug report into SolusVM to ask about this issue.

Also I reset your bandwidth back to 0.00GB I will keep a eye on this vps and Will again update on the issue.

I do feel this is not our issue as No other VPS as this issue. If they go over they know about it and know what happen. You should now see your VPS back online..

Becare….FEHosting is a scam….I paid $35 but so far no response from them at all.

    June 9, 2011 @ 2:00 pm | Reply
    • Hi Alan,

calling us a scam is kind of odd as We reply to every ticket! I am thinking you are the same user who sign up and then forgot what email they used. and then starts to send an email to every one of our team and spams our helpdesk. and then when we tell the user how to get the welcome emails and such they say they can’t as they don’t know what email they used. Well I have fixed that issue for that user and we have yet to get another order for the $35/year. So if you don’t mind to give me your ticket ID or the user ID or anyother way to find your account I would be more then happy to look into it. But as i see it you are calling us a scam because you yet open a ticket with us or let us know you never got a welcome email. You should tell us before running to LEB to call us a scam.

Do show me the facts before calling us a Scam as WE DID NOT SCAM YOU.!

Well I second that I get these ticket ID’s or order# some way for me to find your account so I can find out what happen. your not telling the full side of things. You don’t get refunds after three days of hosting. You don’t get refunds for spam abuse to our system or staff and I do think this one user Waited about two weeks before he wanted a refund. I’m sorry but it’s in our TOS that we don’t offer refunds after three days. If you agree to that then you follow it. Do give me your Order or Ticket ID”s so Maybe i can do something for you But till then THESE ARE FASE REVIEWS!!!

        16384+0 records in
        16384+0 records out
        1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 1111.42 s, 966 kB/s

        • Hi,

I am very sorry for such a delay on this issue. We did not plan that well for this upgrade and came into issues and Could not get the billing to look right You could not even read some of the stuff, So after all this We have our Billing/Support up and running like before No lost on billing or anything it was just a Upgrade that gone bad. So to plan for next time we do this we are going to move our Main Billing to our Own server we have setup so we can walk to the server and fix the issue. I am very sorry for anyone that could not order/get support. I am getting a Offsite support/email setup that we could check issues if this ever happen again. I did check the SolusVM every hour or so to make sure All VPS servers stay online and no issues with billing/payments.

Thank you everyone for waiting this out and Hope you have a great day.

just to let you guys know, my server is offline from last week. for first couple days fehosting didn’t even want to acknowledge this fact and kept sending me messages that “everything is ok on their side”, when it clearly wasn’t. they don’t reply to tickets sooner that with 2-3 days delay. now, 5 days later they are ‘looking into the issue’ and ‘may want to change my IPs’ to fix it. the server is completely down with the range of IPs that were previously assigned to it not replying. tracert gets lost in the datacenter
support is nonexistant as there is communication. looks to me like a typical one man operation, during a year with them I’m always being replied by the same person

I think it’s rather a routing issue, orelse mix of the new solus and routing, as this is what tracert looks like:

           10 45 ms 47 ms 51 ms vl0100.gwy01.lnuk01.hostnoc.eu [209.197.0.242]

           13 * * * Request timed out.
           14 *
          [snipped]

and the machine sometimes comes as Online in solus (still the connection not going through). but most of the time it’s offline

          October 13, 2011 @ 12:43 am | Reply
        • Honestly the fact it’s dropping where it is, it looks like a billing issue.

Solus could just be getting confused or is loading old cached data and that’s why it shows as online once in a while. Does it stay ‘online’ for a long period or no?

Any time i’ve heard a host say ‘we may need to change your IPs’, I always assume it’s a billing issue.

If they were skimming most of the cash for themselves then that’s a whole other story.

I’m not sure why people really think they can do the $15/y – $20/y market on rented gear.

Think of all the hassle you go through when your virtual server(s) are down. It’s unacceptable. They didn’t learn from the December 2010/January 2011 fiasco. And people who don’t learn from their mistakes… well.. they just keep making them and I expect this shit to be a regular occurrence.

You are receiving this notice as the VZUK node is not running like it should. Over the past few days it had some big issues with the CPU temp and it will shutdown and reboot everytime it hit's over the high temp. We need to act fast to fix this issue so it will stop doing that and then we can look at the other issue it may have. We are going to pull the VZUK node offline within the next hour to get this fixed ASAP. We need to get this done or the server will keep doing this.. The server has been scheduled for maintenance and upgrades.

@dpflap: I thought that was strange but is it back up for you?

@Box: I haven’t had a ticket open for as long as yours but right after the move I created a ticket telling them about high wait times on the server and haven’t received a response yet – but – I did receive the maintenance email.

I’ve been with them since November 2010 running a PBX server and the staff are quite helpful even with things that, like you said, don’t fall under their service. The downtime did hurt me and I can’t argue at times they do take a while to reply and does make me wonder what’s going on but on the flip side you won’t go to a start up or a new company and expect everything to be perfect – otherwise you’d play with the big dogs. At their prices, I’m not excusing it, but I think they deserve a little bit of breathing room especially because when it’s UP, it really is UP. I have VPS’ with most of the providers I found on LEB and the one with these guys is more reliable than all of them, in my opinion and experience.

Whatever maintenance they just did has improved my VPS considerably. It’s early to say if this is going to be consistent but if it’s not then I might move to Virpus, see what happens really.

@dpflap I’ve switched now and just making the most out of the remaining billing time on the VPS (+while it’s still alive). @Ahmed glad everything’s been going well for you but it hasn’t for me or @dpflap. In fact, since last year they’ve been on a downward spiral and I kept excusing their behaviour but not any more. I’ve been waiting for weeks to receive a response about my domain renewal which was supposed to be free with my package. I transferred the domain out.

Pardon my language but the fucked up thing is, he’s getting our tickets, but he just won’t reply. Like what the fuck?! I’ve kept my VPS off and find it turned back on within 24-72 hours, which means Michael is obviously active.

I’d advise any remaining customers to get out as soon as possible and not to renew. If you don’t, you’ll find out why when you create a support ticket.
