Forever Hosting - $43.20/Year 512MB OpenVZ VPS

Updated February 2012: Forever Hosting is unfortunately, not forever. It died somewhere in 2011, and it’s homepage has been showing cPanel login page for a while.

Forever Hosting Michael from Forever Hosting emailed me a few days ago on their special promotion of unmanaged OpenVZ VPS. They offered 20% off on monthly payments last time, and it was quite a good deal. Now you can get 40% off recurring discount with annual payment + promo code 40OFFSALE. Their Unmanaged VPS “VZBronze” package now costs $43.20/Year after the discount (~$3.60/month). With a lot more than “low end” specification:

  • 512MB guaranteed/1024MB burstable memory
  • 15GB storage
  • 175GB/month data transfer
  • 1 Free domain registration
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Order link here. Currently you can choose between either Scranton PA or Manchester UK. According to Michael, IPv6 is available on both UK and US servers. From the last thread the reaction so far seems to be pretty positive. However do remember that this is a new provider with domain registered 3 months ago.

    Awesome deal,
I bought it some time a go when they started out.
Uptime has been 100%, server is fast and I actually host some pretty important sites on it.

    Staff is very friendly aswell.

    @Michael
How it looks like with the CPU, you page only reads “Equal Share CPU”?
What about free domain? Any restrictions? Can the domain be transfered
when the vps contract has been canceled? What about Free ssl certificate?
I usually by domains extra, because of some tricks used when combining with hosting packages.
    thanks for your ansers.

      Hi Dannix,

If the server is a 4 core’s you would get 4 core’s and Equal Share of the cpu if it’s at 2.83 per core you would get Equal Share.

The domain is only used for our VPS Servers But if you send us a ticket and need to be moved we will work with you. Yes it can be moved when the vps is canceled. Yes you can get a free ssl if you open a ticket after order.

      You have a great day.

What servers are used in UK. What amount of each CPU you give for each vps?
Please provide IP and testfile for UK.
        Thanks.

IPv6 is somehow available (i.e. routed by the ISP). Unfortunately not yet usable inside a VPS.
The support is working on making it work, maybe it is a knob not yet turned in the OpenVZ setup?!
I’ll be patient until they sort this out :)

I have 2 “silver” VPS with them right now. For the first month, everything was great and wonderful. No complaints. But as of today (6 weeks), both servers have been OFFLINE FOR THREE DAYS. I can’t start them, and the only response I get from support is “we’re working on it. thanks for your patience.”

To me this is completely unacceptable and makes their service unusable. I would never recommend them to anyone. Unless you don’t mind if your servers are offline for a few days.

I paid for an annual VPS package before Christmas and it has now been offline for the past 10 days.

Consider NOT BUYING from this company as their support is non existent and service appalling.

I appreciate it has been the Christmas period, but I contacted support immediately the server went offline (by email and twitter because their website was offline also) and they have still not resolved it.

I think I have been very patient, but web servers are meant to work 24/7, and it has now been offline for 10 days. Even if they have been on vacation skiing or in a hole over the Christmas period, there is no excuse nowadays for a company not to know they have serious problems and to remote access in and sort out their servers.

Received a reply from Michael after 12 days.

A perfunctory email saying “sorry, all is better now and by the way, happy new year”, which is quite frankly insulting.

As this was a new account and new server I have requested he does the decent thing and refunds my entire 12 months fee paid up front as after over 12 days of no communication or fixes I had to make alternative hosting arrangements.

I am not happy with FEHosting’s level of service and am not confident that their servers and infrastructure are fit for purpose.

    • Hi,

It was only one node that gone down for this long. Our staff was unable to boot it online and no way of getting a hold of our data center for a reboot. and in fact they never even call me to get this so i am very sorry for everyone. I hope we can just fix it and give what the clients need.

There are some serious problems with FEHosting right now. You are not the only one. As far as I know, 3 of their servers are offline, 2 in the UK, 1 in the US. And here you can see that there is a great amount of people fed up with their lack of support of any kind:

FE HOSTING had severe service problems at the end of December and into January that left my brand new VPS server offline and unreachable for 12 days.

    * * They are not the kind of company I would recommend any person uses * *

They are now being very belligerent about offering any kind of refund even though their own terms of service state they have a 7 day money back guarantee.

They are stringing me and other customers along with a series of excuses and have tried:

    1) Denying there were problems at all during my 12 day outage – fortunately the SolusVM process and memory log graphs shows a gap of 12 days.
    2) Suggesting I didn’t try rebooting or reinstalling the server – the status log shows that I tried both a number of times.
    3) Denying there was a problem – just google Forever Hosting Problem
    4) Ignoring the fact that there was a 12 day outage and saying the service is up now, so all is ok.
    5) Ignoring the fact that apart from 2 standard holding support emails, I received no communication from them for almost two weeks.
    6) Ignoring my requests for a refund despite it being placed within 7 days of ordering.

They seem to think it is perfectly acceptable business practice to leave a 24/7 web server offline for 12 days without any communication or technical support. They refuse to understand why I consider their servers and setup unfit for purpose.

My last email to them just now, after 10 tedious emails back and forth, the contents I’ll not depress you with…

    —————————–

Michael, I have been very patient.

Yes, send my details to Kim. Perhaps she can understand plain English.

    1) YOU HAVE A MONEY BACK GUARANTEE AS STATED IN YOUR TERMS OF SERVICE
    2) YOU SET UP A SERVICE FOR ME ON 24th DECEMBER WHICH DID WORK BUT 2 DAYS LATER FAILED AND THEN WAS OFFLINE FOR 12 DAYS
    3) DURING THIS TIME ON 2ND JANUARY, BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF RESPONSE AND NEGLIGIBLE SUPPORT OR FIXES I ASKED FOR MY MONEY BACK.

    THOSE ARE THE FACTS

PLEASE ABIDE BY YOUR OWN TERMS OF SERVICE AND PROVIDE ME WITH THE REFUND I REQUESTED.

Despite the service now being available, there was a period of 12 days where I only received two generic support emails and no fix. You have admitted you were suffering major problems, so I was not happy with your service so requested a refund.

I have not heard from FE Hosting for almost two weeks. I think their service is up and running again but I really wouldn’t recommend or promote them.

My experience is that you only know how good a company is when you have problems. I am not alone in having had serious problems with Forever Hosting – not only technically but also with customer service.

I eventually had to get a refund from their payment provider (2Checkout.com Inc) due to FE Hosting’s total absence of communication.

FE Hosting seem like a small company with minimal staff who were unaware of or unable to fix a severe technical problem whilst away on holiday over Christmas. In dealing with the consequent flak of unhappy customers they were aggressive, dismissive and downright unprofessional (some of the emails I have from Michael trying to deny there was a problem and get out of paying a refund are comical).

FE Hosting seems to be running just as fine as it was before the outage. I got the next month free for the problems though. I didn’t get response during the outage, but I was notified when they got it back up on 8.1.2011. After that the billing responded to me in timely manner.

Do give me a Ticket ID or server IP or just email me at michael @ fehosting.com and I will fix this right up for you. I am very sorry for the downtime you had and wish that never happen to any of our clients. I would like to make things right and fix these issues.

  25. Hello everyone here.

I would like to say sorry to everyone that did not get a reply or a update about the accounts. We have all our servers back online a few hours after we seen what happen. We had support staff setup to deal with such issues but where unable to due to not getting our SolusVM info. They had to ask each client for root info and some did not even update them so we are unable to fix such issues. We had over 300 tickets come in within 24 hour’s and our staff was getting to them as fast as we could. If your ticket is still not got a reply to email me at michael @ fehosting.com with the ticket id and I will fix your account up. I would again like to say sorry and we do not run a company that lives on downtime. We drive on having uptime and great servers. I did not know about these replys or I would of been here a long time ago asking for our clients to give me a email with ticket ids so I can fix them up. I don’t want anyone to think we can just have downtime and get away with it. We are doing the best we can and I will help everyone get what they need.

I hope you will see we are here to stay at Forever Hosting (FeHosting) and we will do our best to make everyone happy!

If you have any questions or need any help do email us at sales @ fehosting.com or support @ fehosting.com

    Thank you very much,
    Michael.

  26. Forever Hosting or FE hosting is nothing short of a scam it’s a fly-by-night flogging http://www.burst.net/ servers.

The support is horrendous as the agents don’t even read the tickets and just respond with vague useless answers and don’t actually take the time to solve client issues.

I have over 30 tickets logged with them in 2 months and not 1 tangible result.

If you monitor the VPS solutions they frequently fall-over or stop responding as expected and you have to manually login and re-boot the servers, the servers work fine for a few hours then 10 min outage and they are back online again.

I have been working with web servers for many many years on other hosts. (With serveint in 3y I have 2 tickets logged for “hardware” upgrades) and I have never had a VPS / dedicated server do what happens on those burst boxes.

    Rubbish rubbish rubbish….

    • Hello,

Wow, I would love to see them ticket ID’s. Oh wait are you the one who just canceled today because your VPS stop working After the client made a change to his/her IPTables?

We deal with over 200 clients, And only 10 tickets over this month. It’s hard to think you had such issues with our servers. Also we are not Burst Net nor do we resell the vps servers. Yes we get our Dedicated servers off them and QuadraNet aswell. Again I would like them ticket id’s so i can review your account and make it right if there needs to be.

I can show you our uptime of the node’s and all say over 10 days because of our Kernel upgrades we just did not too long ago. But other then that we have no servers offline. I should Note one of our UK serves today had a DDOS Attack and yes it slow down the network for a few hour’s but did not take any VPS Servers offline.

Do email me with your ticket id’s so i can help you out! michael @ fehosting com

      -Michael
