If it’s server 2003 I never found 512MB to be at all unusable.

    • It really depends what you plan to do with it, if you turn off unneeded services and optimise it to how you require it can perform very well (that’s what LEB was originally all about!). We have a number of clients using 512MB with Windows with no issues. If you need that extra juice we do have higher spec plans on our website.

I had a 35 GB Xen as a backup for a few years and everything went smoothly UNTIL I could not connect to the VPS any more.

Dan told me there must be something wrong in the OS at my end (I had actually made no changes for months). Finally I ended up reinstalling CentOS. Nothing worked, however… The problem was that my VPS had been assigned an IP address that had not been assigned to GBServers so it had been the wrong one since day zero.

After a considerable amount of work I got my backup working again.

Needless to say that left me pretty unhappy. However, that was about the only time something went wrong but that time everything went wrong big time.

    • Hello MKV,

Sorry to hear this, I don’t remember this, so maybe this was something quite a while ago, I don’t suppose you could let me know the ticket number or your registered name so I can have a look back at this?

This is definitely not something of a regular occurrence at GBServers! A while back we didn’t have our own IP ranges either so it is possible it wasn’t actually our fault, but I can’t say the exact case as I don’t remember it :)

        Hi,

Yes, I have the ticket number: 562808. And quoting your response: “I have had a quick look, and it looks like for some reason 85.234.149.xxx should have never been assigned to your VPS, as it isn’t assigned to us.”

And once again: this was the ONLY serious problem I had. But it was a really nasty one.

        • Hi MKV,

I have had a quick look, this did briefly jog my memory, you was a customer for nearly 5 years, and that loyalty is of course appreciated! I see you stayed with us for a couple of years after this issue as well.

I do see that there were some errors showing the console which made it very hard for us to diagnose the issue at hand. The problem was at this point in time we did not manage our own network, and was renting IP’s for the datacenter, it appears they told us a certain range and quite some time after that they assigned it to another customer of theres, which then stopped yours from working. I can’t remember the console errors to be honest with you, but if we couldn’t console into the VPS we could only assume there was something wrong inside the VPS, and made troubleshooting extremely hard for us (after all we didn’t change anything either). We did also credit you a few months for the inconvenience.

I can only apologise of course, but your welcome to give us another try, I can say this is a unique case :)

No hard feelings, Dan. I was pretty happy with the service, anyhow, and just might come back one of these days!

    01. If I apply now for the Linux service then would you give me a cPanel (as mentioned here)?

    02. What other options do you have of this Linux variation?

    03. Is this Linux server located at Maidenhead (good for me)?

    04. What refund policy do you have?

    January 19, 2016 @ 4:09 am | Reply
    • 1. Providing the link still shows cPanel/WHM at no charge, then we still have licenses available, otherwise this means we no longer have licenses left.

      2. We have CentOS, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo, Slackware and possibly some others, a rough list is provided in the order link and on our website.

      3. That really depends on you, where are you located, where the end users of the VPS are going to be best, for latency. Maidenhead is outside of London, just outside the M25.

      4. We offer a 14 day refund policy – no questions asked

    05. Can I upgrade the Linux box in future (RAM, CPU, HDD space)?

    06. What is the maximum number of IPs I am allowed to point to the same directory? Do I need to show proof or justification for the additional IPs?

    January 19, 2016 @ 4:15 am | Reply
    • 5. Yes you can upgrade

      6. By directory do you mean VPS? We typically have a max of 5 IP’s per VPS, we can sometimes extend this to more in certain circumstances. IP justification is required.

Hey, is this something that can be used as an SSH tunnel? I have no idea what an SSH tunnel exactly is but I’d like to try to use one. The area I can type in has server ip, server port, login, password, and clients per connections.

    Thanks for any help.
