HostFolks - $3.95 256MB OpenVZ VPS

HostFolks Via this WHT offer, HostFolks is currently having 20% off recurring discount on their VPS hosting plans. With coupon code WHTVPS you can get their “Economy VPS” package for $3.96/month.

  • 256MB memory
  • 25GB storage
  • 500Gb/month data transfer
  • 1000MHz CPU
  • OpenVZ/HyperVM

Last time when we looked at this provider, it was reselling BurstNet’s OpenVZ/vePortal products. This time however, they have changed the control to HyperVM + adding a lower-end package with just 256MB memory. Not too sure where they have migrated their users to, but let’s assume that it’s still within BurstNet’s data center in Scranton PA.

  1. Do not go for that host. VPS mostly take 1 hour total to setup. This is not physical server. I ordered and paid the money. When I asked them VPS details they said they are out of stock. They are ordering new server which will take almost 12 hours. Crazy.. Only plus point is that when I request them to cancel our the deal and refund the money they have done it within 5 minutes.

  2. Just to clarify, they did not email you to let you know the vps was delayed? You had to email them and ask? If that’s correct, gotta admit that’s not cool.

Were quick to get my order online and happy with it.. Can’t really diss the company if they are out of stock, at least it seems they don’t oversell and give you your money back rather than stick you on and overuse..

They are horrible. I’ve had a VPS with them for over a month now and first server got a hardware failure and my website was down for well over 24 hours and I had to then set it up to another VPS of theirs once they realized they can’t recover the data.. Ok I thought shit happens. But then my new VPS also got a hardware failure and after 4+ hours of downtime they “fixed” it.. but since it has been rebooting often without my command and now I cannot even access it in anyway for 4+ hours. Support seems to be a 1 man team. They refunded me for my 1st and only month payment upon the first hardware failure problem but I wouldn’t want this kind of a shitty service for free even. There has also been some network problems. Probably not a good idea to go with anything from Scranton datacenter. (burst.net etc. use that)
