Hostitek - $3 256MB OpenVZ VPS in Los Angeles

Hostitek Via this WHT offer. It has been 2 months since their last offer, and Hostitek has brought in their LA-based budget VPS line that starts from $16/year for 160MB/320MB memory, 20GB disk, 500GB/month data OpenVZ VPS (sign up link). That’s the hosting plan I guess most here would be interest for, although their domain was only registered in March this year — too new for me to trust in their annual payment offers. However they also offer other budget VPS packages with monthly billing. For example “VZ1” is at $3/month, which you can order here directly.

  • 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
  • 40GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM

Servers in HostNOC/BustNET’s DC in Los Angeles (test IP: 184.82.225.2). PayPal seems to be the only payment method. Hostitek is a Taiwanese web design/development company (Chinese website here) that was founded in 2007.

Disk io test are shared resource , server’s load will affect the test results.
In addition to test data, do you have any problems in the vps ?

oh, yeah, i get what i pay for :(((((

        • @mike (or was it John, or Linda??) — their site has been alive, as far as my tracking is concerned.

Do note that they are behind CloudFlare’s reverse proxy. So you might have issues with the CloudFlare node that you have connected to (time out for example), and the timeout result was cached for your geographical area.

Whereas for Joe (and myself as well) it would appear to be up through the whole time.

So when your server is down as well as their own site, what would you thtink? :)
I was the one recommended to my siblings and they’re blaming me now.

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

I have an LA vps and it is fast for the first week. I’m using it for openvpn server. The signal is not good. I’m getting packet lost alot. Then after that, it just seem that its super slow until i can’t even use it…

They’re LA server is at burstnet? right? so does that means bursnet sucks??
    I’m gonna avoid this provider

    • @jay,
If you paid using Paypal, please raise a claim.
I am doing that right now then HostItek just suspended my VPS and they asked me to stop my claim.

We need to help our community against such providers.

  11. Hi,
    Please listen to my explain.
Our LA server in BurstNET datacenter, it experienced some problems(Packet loss 50% ~ 100% ) in August.

When the packet loss, some users keep reboot or dd test , server high load and can’t work .
    Thank you.

    • Yeah, I once thought about that and as my vps could not run for my website, I have been waiting… for two weeks. But I alter all realize that my HostItek VPS could not support just one website using wordpress and running on debian and Nginx.

  12. As I have a problem with my HostItek VPS which has an IO speed at only 4.5MB/s, HostItek suggest me to consider a Dedicated Server. That means HostItek understand their VPS boxes are so bad. I am just not sure how can they keep selling their such unqualified products. This is in US, not in China or Taiwan.

  13. This is your test results in your Tickets [my VPS IO is too slow] 2011/08/07.
    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 94.5686 seconds, 11.4 MB/s

    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 56.8303 seconds, 18.9 MB/s

This is your note in paypal claim.
As a standard requirement for a VPS to serve web hosting, a minimum IO speed at 50MB per second should be satisfied.

I am sorry about that , you have unreasonable demands in Budget VPS.
We maintain the stability of server, but many factors that beyond our control.

    • Hey,
Did you look at the test I did a day latter, please see my previous post in this thread and the one from Mike as I attached. It is clearly that things went worse day by day. That is exactly what @jay mentioned, in this thread too.

    • Thanks for the post, Sam,
I am sure hostitek is the only one provider with VPSs of io speeds at just around 10M/s. I once prayed my HostItek to keep having one at 25MB/s so that the images and sql data can be loaded synchronously but that never comes truth.
So sorry to annoy people here with my issue. I am really tired. Whatever the decision PP makes, I stop.
