Hostodo have been featured two times before and the responses to their last offer were predominantly positive. They are a registered company in the United States as Odo Services LLC (see here for more information). Host nodes have an Intel 2-1240v3 CPU with hard drives in RAID10 back up by an LSI 9271 RAID card with Cachevault. While they initially started with just Los Angeles as a location, they have recently expanded to Miami which makes these guys more interesting to those located in the EU. If you give this offer a shot, please let us know how it’s going!

PayPal is currently the only accepted payment method. There’s a 30-day money back guarantee in place, so if you’re not satisfied please raise a ticket. No heavy CPU usage allowed (meaning 90% or more of a CPU core for an extended period of time). Private VPNs and proxies, and legal adult content is allowed. No bulk mail or anything else illegal in the USA. For all the details, please read their full Terms of Service!

Just registered but it seems that there are a max of 3 vCPU cores available plus after launching the instance I can’t connect via SSH or VNC.

The reverse DNS seems to be manually setup.

Called their phone number but nobody replied. Opened a ticket but still waiting and I can’t connect to the VPS. I normally can connect out of the box but not with this company.

    Will keep updating.

    Thanks

Looks like the 50% off promo code works on all plan levels… 8GB RAM, 300GB of storage for $10/month ….not bad at all. :)

Just signed up and I can confirm that MIA VPS is not working. Los angeles is OK and 3 CPU cores per VPS instead of 4.

Support: so far no answer after opening a ticket 5 hours ago, the phone on their website takes you to an automated menu and then asks to leave a message

I ordered, and provisioned a VM in Miami just fine, FWIW. Everything works as it should.

Their templates seem to be *really* minimal, which is kind of nice.

I signed up yesterday, so, I haven’t managed to test all the features but this is my opinion so far:

    The good

    – You can deploy your own instance and you have 5 ip addresses.
    – You can assign RAM as you wish up to 2 GB that will be discounted per each instance, so, you could have 2 instances running different flavours of linux with 1 GB each (for instance)
    – You can deploy your instance in Miami or LA

    The bad

    – There’s no support whatsoever
    – You can’t setup your Reverse DNS for your instances yourself. You must contact the administrator but because there’s no support get ready to wait for more than a day (just signed up yesterday and still waiting for reply!)
    – The Miami server/location was down yesterday but no information of this appeared on “network status”. It was back on after some hours but no news at all. That’s bad. There’s a phone number but it’s just a machine (no humans around).

Will post more details later (when I get feedback from them, if I do)

Giving the CLOUD-VZ-2000 a try since yesterday (promo code worked, thanks!). No issues so far with MIA or LA locations.

    Pros:
    – comes with a handful of IPv4, yay
    – no glitch setting up new VMs in a snap
    – the price… (how are they supposed to earn $$$?)
    – ability to install a truly minimal, clean OS
    – does a decent job, network- and CPUwise

    Cons:
    – OpenVZ + Virtualizor… meh, deal with it…
    – can’t set the reverse DNS by yourself (huh, srsly ?!)
    – can’t allocate more than 3 vCPUs (out of a 100) to a single instance
    – choice of OS is a bit outdated (old kernels, 1 year behind)
    – the price… I fear they’ll go broke within weeks :[

Anyway, thanks LEB for the heads up.
Now… I’d happily pay twice the price for something similar with Xen/(K|H)VM and unlocked/functional panel features…

Hello, do you have any DDoS protection in Miami and what is it?
What happens if my VPS received DDoS attack? Sometimes my vps receives attacks about 1 gbit/s. For example 2 days ago: 1.132226779 gbit/s.
As you can see, I’m looking for good vps with any DDoS protection.
I’m from Еurope and your Miami server loads fast.
Can you answer me, if I’m welcome or not?

Update about my first week with hostodo:

At some point someone from support replied (it took a couple of days or so). To be honest, once I received a reply, the person was very kind.

After having Miami not working for a bit when I signed up things seem now to be working OK (so far). The only thing is that support might be very slow at replying so if you need to make some urgent changes it’s not ideal.

    I will keep updating

    Thanks!

Four days in, and the disk i/o is being abused relentlessly, with crippling iowait rendering the VM pretty much unusable for anything that touches the disk.

Also, there’s persistent severe entropy starvation, so clearly the VPNs have arrived en masse. >.<

My cynical assumption from the get-go was that the multiple-IP thing was part of a scheme to try to qualify for a /24 from ARIN as quickly as possible, and then sell the “business” and its shiny new netblock to the highest bidder.

The service is typical lackluster shoddily-administered heavily, heavily-oversold OpenVZ. Buying service from them now is basically a gamble/investment that the business will get sold to someone competent in the near future who honors existing clients’ plans. It’s a calculated risk; maybe he sells out to Secure Dragon or someone else who know what they’re doing, in which case you win. Or maybe he sells out to vps.net, in which case you lose, hard…

After reading these mixed reviews, I am wondering if this host is trustworthy (I have no idea about his past ventures other than what I’ve read here), and if this is actually a good provider. Can people please post more reviews of their experiences to help me make my mind up whether or not I’ll try them out? I run a small very low end network of sites and don’t need much, but I also hate being ripped off

If you know how to read a cpu usage plot, have a look. This is from the Miami OpenVZ server (VZ1.MIA) showing the last 36 hours. The VPS worked fine for about 6 weeks but now it is unusable and there has been no response from the support for the last 2 days on bringing things under control again

      http://snag.gy/yzTo7.jpg

I also only need low end with very little cpu usage but what I have at the moment is not usable

    Hi all,

I left a review some days ago here and since I wrote that, well, I suppose that a lot of people has signed up.

The server was working fine but now almost all the instances are incredibly slow and the CPU load is high despite not having any service running.

I tested a default apache installation and it takes some time to show the “It works!” page. Imagine that!

Their own website to manage the account https:// vps.hostodo.com:4083 takes ages to load and after you have managed to see the main screen and entered your credentials you will see the following: http://snag.gy/zIqj6.jpg

    Summary:

    – I strongly advise against signing up at the moment. I did sign up and I have no hope to get my money back. I feel let down.

As an extra, I would like to mention that, in just a week, the IP addresses around me that were “clean” started to appear RBL blacklisted. I feeling like swimming in a polluted pool with virtually no chance of survival.

My one little FL instance is still chugging along. Disks are still clearly being thrashed to within an inch of their lives. Tried to apt-get install something, it just sat there for two minutes, thinking about trying to read from the disk, before I cancelled it.

Don’t see any point in filing a ticket, myself; by this point they have to be aware that everything has gone to shit, surely…
