Is it possible to get a test run of the OpenVZ? Preferably Washington, but the location or config do not matter as long as the functionality is the same across all of them.

    Hi Guys,

This offer looks like its arrived at just the right time! as I was just about to order a storage node from another providor, however I am still waiting on them to get back to me on answering a couple of quick questions. Sighs.

Anyway as this is KVM, I can adjust the inodes to suit its purpose so this would be better in the long run as it means the providor doesnt need to do anything special. The only possible issue I can see is its location as I live in the UK.

So, would you mind giving me a quick test file link so I can quickly test to see if Atlanta would be acceptiable. Latency isnt so much of a problem was it will just be for storage (tahoe-lafs node, mostly). Or if you have one located closer, that would be even better but I highly doubt you would but its worth asking :)

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,

    Simon

Sorry guys, I feel stupid. I found your test links on your site (was listed at the very bottom of the posting).

Thanks for your interest. Storage KVM is currently being offered in Atlanta only, you can find test IPs and files from our network page: https://hostus.us/network.html

      • Simon Oakes:

Thanks for the reply. Ive done some tests and speed is fine apart from ive noticed your test file keeps staling sometimes, not always (tested from about 5 different DC’s) but that could just be your server/config.

However just as I was about to order and I just noticed your prices do not match what you have in your posting.

On your website, most of the package prices are different then what you have posted here on LEB.

        Example:
LEB Web shows: STORAGE 400G @ $48 per year, your website says $60

Most of the others don’t match either (at least the yearly doesn’t at least). Could you please look into it as it will dictate what I will order.

        Thank you.

p.s. As usual would like to pay yearly, so if any of the other packages have discounts for yearly, please mention, thank you.

Sorry for the noise again, I must be blind and having a bad day as as soon as I clicked next, the price was discounted to what the LEB website says.

  12. On your “OpenVZ vs KVM” page, it lists Docker support as “Partial” on OpenVZ. What does that mean? I’m planning on running some Docker containers, would it be better to use KVM instead of OpenVZ?

    October 23, 2016 @ 3:55 am | Reply
    • Hi Daniel,

OpenVZ’s Docker support is very limited and we recommend running Docker on KVM only.

Is BitTorrent/seedbox usage allowed (assuming no public tracker usage)?

    October 27, 2016 @ 5:54 am | Reply
    • J Cox:

Their AUP has a list of banned services, one of which says “Pirated Content / Warez / Illegal Downloads/Uploads”. I doubt that a host that doesn’t allow a Minecraft Server (something that can be handled by a $15 Raspberry Pi), would be cool with bittorrent. Then again, it says that customers are responsible for handling DMCA notes, so if you use a tunnel, it might be ok. Unless you ended up falling under “Pirated Content / Warez / Illegal Downloads/Uploads”.

Unless of course the apparently catch-all AUP is really just there as justification to ban anyone who causes a disruption and isn’t enforced as long as you’re not a headache. If it’s that last part, I’m in for a yearly sub.

      October 29, 2016 @ 5:47 am | Reply
      • Hello,

BitTorrent/seedbox is fine as long as you are not acessing any content that is violating our terms.

We consider multiple factors when deciding an AUP entry. Minecraft servers are not allowed due to its tendency of receiving DDoS attacks, though we make exceptions for small personal servers from time to time.

Please feel free to submit a sales ticket if you would like clarification with our terms and conditions.

That sounds really awesome. I might have to pick up a small server to replace the problems I’ve been having with my current provider. Do you allow tunneled network interfaces? I need to connect to a VPN for my school.

          • Hello,

This will work fine with all KVM-based services. OpenVZ has limited support for proper GRE tunneling, but will work fine with OpenVPN (TUN/TAP).

I’ve been using HostUs for a couple months now. Its my first time using a VPS. In the past I always ran my own servers either at home or in a data center. I’m very happy with the service I am getting from the folks at Hostus.

I’m running a site I developed for my employer and am in the process of setting up a few personal domains for myself. Very happy with the service and at this point I plan on continuing to use them vs. going with a dedicated server (my stuff is low volume).

For what it is worth, I can recommend these guys.

    Hi,

I was wondering what kind of network speeds I could expect if I went for the London offer – it mentioned a 1gbps uplink but I’d presume that that would be shared between multiple VMs?

    Thanks

  20. Dan:

I don’t recommend this company. The servers were down for over a week and often go down due to high load (overselling) or due to apparent DDoS attacks as they says. Whatever the case, it’s not worth the effort.

    Be aware …
