LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

HostUS - OpenVZ VPS plans starting at $16/year - in US, EU, and Asia

Info: You can also use coupon code TOPPROVIDER for 20% off any unmanaged plans on their site that are not listed on this offer.

Andrew from HostUS sent in an offer featuring their new Singapore location along with refreshed plans worldwide. We’ve listed them multiple times before and they’re well known around here. They came 2nd in our quarterly top provider poll. HostUS Solutions LLC is a registered Delaware company with file number 5491145.

The hostnodes feature Intel Xeon CPUs, with 64GB of DDR3/4 RAM, along with RAID10 SSD, SSD Cached or HDD dependant on location. They are connected to a 1Gbps port.

They operate their own network in the USA and UK (AS7489 / AS25926) and in Asia they partner with SoftLayer (AS36351). They use direct ARIN (USA) and APNIC (Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney) IP allocations. Most but not all allocations in London are direct RIPE IP allocations.

Customers are provided with a custom in-house control panel named “Breeze” to manage their services. More about that here.

They offer PayPal, Skrill, and Bitcoin as payment methods. A 3 day money back guarantee is offered. As always, please ensure you read their terms, which are available here.

On the annual plans, is the bandwidth transfer for the entire period or per month?

Contacted their support with this exact question, the reply I got was:
The bandwidth is per month. Each month it resets and 2TB more for that month.

Your panel looks cool, but I use to connect to SolusVM by API to gather info (badnwidth) and remote reboot. Do you think you will open some API access at some point ?

Unfortunately the rather extensive list of of banned services includes Teamspeak :P

Curious to know why – I understand banning services that overuse resources, but TS doesn’t look like being one of those to me – at least the non commercial/unlicensed use. Maybe I’m unfamiliar to the industry (well, somewhat), but why instead of banning services, don’t they limit core services – like “up to 10k mails per month” (or whatever), besides banning illegal/unsavoury activities and implementing fair use, ofc)?

    April 5, 2016 @ 10:04 pm | Reply
    • TeamSpeak is typically prone to DDoS attacks, and mass mailing is another story :) If something reasonable you want to run is banned, let us know.

      • Rhinox:

Every service is prone to DDoS attacks, TS is no exception. But unlike web or dns, one can move TS to some other higher port. With a few fw-rules to stop port-scanning, it might be quite difficult to find if TS is running and therefore more immune to DDoS than any other service bound to fixed port.

No reason to bann it just because the reason you mentioned (btw, thought about getting one of your VPS as backup for my server, but with TS banned it is no go for me)…

Singapore node IP don’t get any country-assigned. So if you looking for singapore assigned ip’s server, this provider can’t serve you yet (can check the looking glass’ ip in cmyip).
And if you’re from indonesia, and using telkom (don’t know about other provider), you’ll get high ping to singapore node, as they have routed to US first then back to singapore.

    April 6, 2016 @ 2:57 am | Reply
    • Our Singapore IPs already have the correct geolocation information with MaxMind, we are working to add the correct data to other databases. We would be happy to look at the routing issue you are having, if you can submit a ticket.

    • Telkom Indonesia routing to Singapore isn’t fixed yet. Not only to HostUS’s server, but Equinix too. The problem is on Telin routing. Telkom Indonesia will route your packet to Telin network first, for the International Access.

Another almost happy customer, with about 2 years with them. Service has been terrific, equipment stable, etc. The only concern is DDOS attacks in Dallas location, which doesn’t seem to have DDOS prevention. If HostUs experiences DDOS with your VPS in the end, they just shut down your VPS. No notification, no communication – nothing!! So simply put – your VPS can [randomly] shutdown – even if you have top notch security/do nothing wrong. So you can be thinking that your VPS is up, while you are loosing your pagerank. However upon few email exchanges, HostUs brought the VPS up – about half a day later. And the response was that there are no capabilities to automatically notify clients when the shutdown happens. So.. couple of recommendations – based on my experience:
    – Avoid Dallas location, which is where the shutdown did happen. My VPS(s) in Atlanta location was unaffected. Maybe the hackers didn’t target it, or DDOS protection worked.
    – Ensure that you enable StatusCake or any other monitoring, so that if your VPS is down for more than 15 minutes – you get notification
    – If location doesn’t matter much to you – I’d go with Atlanta location, which may have been their first one (not sure). At least maintenance processes in (one of their) first locations were good enough to prompt their subsequent growth.
    – If you do not need too many resources, consider running several smaller VPS (e.g. like the special above) rather than larger ones. This way when they shut down your VPS (without communication) – only one website is affected, not all running on that box.

Otherwise HostUs team and Alexander was quickly (~20 min to 1 hr in most cases) able to address concerns, and responses were fairly knowledgeable.

I can vouch for HostUS, have had a VPS with them for a year. Top notch support (knowledgable and generally quick). VPS has been stable and pricing is very good. As others have mentioned, their homegrown “Breeze” control panel is very simple to use.

I signed up for their cheap one-year plan almost one year ago, and I’ve found it unreliable overall. The VPS would often become available, and sometimes would not come back until I opened a ticket letting them know it was unavailable. Their response to those tickets would be something like “It should be fine now,” but no explanation of why it had gone wrong. Performance was also spotty, with sometimes unusably slow I/O.

Maybe I shouldn’t complain too much considering what I paid, but on the other hand my VPS’s from RamNode and Crissic are giving me much better quality for a similar price.

        • I have been able to find tickets related to your case. Just to reiterate some key points that we mentioned in your tickets:

[VPS IP] is running Hitleap which is a a prohibited service.
[VPS IP] is running automated web browsing: Automated Browsing: firefox -P profile1 -no-remote imacros://run/?m=autosurf.iim
[VPS IP] is running automated web browsing: Automated Browsing: firefox -P profile1 -no-remote imacros://run/?m=autosurf.iim

HitLeap and other artificial traffic generators weren’t ever allowed with us; these items are also commonly prohibited with other providers.

All your VPSes have one vCPU core, and with the stats that you have posted here (load average: 10.97, 9.17, 6.76), you have been using at least 6 times your allocated CPU resources.

The free command is the most simple and easy to use command to check memory usage on linux. Here is a quick example

      $ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
      Mem: 7976 6459 1517 0 865 2248
      -/+ buffers/cache: 3344 4631
      Swap: 1951 0 1951

The m option displays all data in MBs. The total os 7976 MB is the total amount of RAM installed on the system, that is 8GB. The used column shows the amount of RAM that has been used by linux, in this case around 6.4 GB. The output is pretty self explanatory. The catch over here is the cached and buffers column. The second line tells that 4.6 GB is free. This is the free memory in first line added with the buffers and cached amount of memory.

Linux has the habit of caching lots of things for faster performance, so that memory can be freed and used if needed.
The last line is the swap memory, which in this case is lying entirely free.

I have 3 vps’s (one in UK and two in US) with them (complete waste of money).

Ok, well where do I start? I have had a horrible experience, since I have purchased my VPS from HostUS.

I order one of the 6GB VPS in the ATL DC. It took them a few hours to approve the order and set it up. They sent me all the info, I logged in, SSH’d in and connected and started using it and kept getting ‘Connection reset by peer’ in SSH, over and over again. So I opened up a ticket and they didn’t know what to do. Finally someone jumped in and said that I had gotten someone else’s IP and that they assigned me another IP. So then with the new IP, I connected and started working on my server and getting it setup and again… the same thing started happening, over and over again… then they had to build an entire new VPS for me and then assign me a 3rd IP… well… I was connected and had almost everything setup on there and boom… disconnected right in the middle of using it… and it appears that now my IP has been banned from the network for like the last 24+ hours.. as I can not connect at all to my VPS, it appears down… and I also can not even get to the Host.US website, as it shows that the HostUS website is down and I keep getting a ‘CloudFlare’ website is offline page. I did get a message from them, saying that they were under DDOS attacks, but that yesterday and here we are today and everything is STILL down.

So.. it appears that apparently they can’t get the DDOS attack under control and are just riding it out, who knows how long it will last, in the mean time, we are all suffering with down servers, websites, etc.

Not good, not good at all.

You may want to err on the side of caution when choosing HostUS.US as your host, as I have only been a customer for about 48-72 hours now.. and since signing up, I have NOT be able to use my VPS, but for a couple of hours, if that. The rest of the time, I’ve been down for technically 3 days now.

This is NOT a good way to start doing business with someone and definitely puts a bad taste in my mouth about this company and the future business and our relationship together.

I have actually already requested a refund and asked them to shut down the VPS, so I can take my business elsewhere and they have yet to respond to that request, only with something like “We are under DDOS attacks and will respond back soon..” and that was it.

Yeah, well… who knows if they are coming back or not or how long it’s going to be.

This is very disappointing. They can atleast go into their billing system on PayPal or Stripe or wherever and refund me and then offer me several free months or a free year of hosting for their screw ups with the 3 mis-assigned IPs and also the DDOS attack for which they couldn’t mitigate… I think for all the screw ups that I’ve had since signing up.. something more needs to be offered other than just 1 day free, that’s not going to cut it.

At this point… I would think twice before you signed up with HostUS.

I don’t recommend this company. The servers were down for over a week and often go down as the above comment says, due to apparent DDoS attacks. Whatever the case, it’s not worth the effort

  101. I’ve now got three of these offers…
    2 x 768MB $12/annum, one in London, one in Washington DC and 1 x 6GB in London.

Havnt had an issue yet – speeds are consistently fast, the little portal they give you is useful for keeping a quick eye on things without installing any panels yourself or logging in and the rebuilds into different distros is nice and quick.

Cant beat the price if I’m honest…

$12 per year for a 1/3rd more ram than Digital Ocean at $5 a MONTH!

Will come back continually as I require more. Thanks

I’ve been using their services since march and so far so good! Had only an issue during a DDOS attack but that was a one time thing. Server speeds are really good and I/O speeds are also amazing.

Support ticket time has always been lower than 30 minutes with me, only time it took longer was during the DDOS attacks, probably due to the higher ticket rate.

Just upgraded from the 768MB RAM to the 2GB RAM, 4 Cores @ 3.5GHz and a 1Gbit link. The process was really smooth, sent in a ticket to the sales/billing department which got answered in less than 20 minutes, and in 30-40 minutes total I was already with my new upgraded service, the price? Had to pay only for the difference for the remainder days of the annual plan, pretty nice deal.

Just hope they keep up with the great work.
