LowEndBox - Cheap VPS, Hosting and Dedicated Server Deals

InceptionHosting - €6/Quarter 128MB Xen VPS in Netherlands

InceptionHosting Here is a new offer from Anthony @ InceptionHosting. A small 128MB Xen VPS which I believe most low end-die hards would prefer. “xenVPSleb” is the name of the package, leb128oct is the coupon code, and here’s the direct sign up link. For €6/Quarter (~USD$2.75/month) you get

  • 128MB memory/256MB swap
  • 5GB storage
  • 150GB/month data transfer on 1000Mbps
  • Xen/SolusVM

Payment in either Moneybookers or PayPal. Servers in the Netherlands (test IPv4: 89.207.135.55, IPv6: 2a00:7b80:483:2::9a3f:95bd). They have been in business since December 2010, and I have featured them twice here on LowEndBox (ref #1, ref #2) with good reviews.

  1. Thanks LEA,

With so many offers recently actualy trying to give away low end dedicated server specs for $7 I thought it would be good to send in an offer that in my mind was the heart of the LEB community.

A little more detail on the offer:

Free upgrade to 15 GB HDD on request
Free 5 GB offsite backup rsync / FTP space on request
    IP6 available
    IRC allowed
    Adult allowed

Instant setup as long as MaxMind does not flag you as fraud.

    • The ’50lite’ code is still valid for 50% off the 256 MB VPS Lite plan (4.50) in the previous offer if anyone wanted that instead.

      October 13, 2011 @ 2:22 pm | Reply
      • Nope, this order went on a node which has someone abusing disk IO right now, a warning shot has been fired.

A closer representation would be the recent review on lowendtalk:

        # dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync && rm -rf test
        16384+0 records in
        16384+0 records out
        1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 6.21125 s, 173 MB/s

Will block new orders on this node while I get that resolved though in the mean time.

I see here that IRC is allowed.. does this include also “normal” IRC usage, as example bouncer connected to quakenet, freenode or so…

I am asking this because your AUP -> where you don’t allow IRC connection to public networks while almost every, even smallest networks can be considered as public as long they are open for third party connections.

We took the speed test down after it started getting 10,000’s of downloads p/week from multiple sources it was getting ridiculous, and was assumed to be malicious.

I assume you were looking at the one on WHT, the DC test file is http://217.18.70.5/test.bin the results should not differ but if you want to do a test download directly from a VPS drop me an email inbox _[at]_ inceptionhosting.com and I will sort that out for you.

The “client login” button on your home page pops a login form that points to an http page instead o https. Somehow I missed that and logged in, so had to change my password. For some reason Solus in the client area still shows my old password. The new one works and I haven’t yet confirmed that the old one doesn’t. Storing passwords is a bad idea in general but I guess if you’re not into modifying Solus or using something else, there’s not much you can do about it.

A warning shot has been fired at another user who has been constantly writing to disk at an abv of 29.3 MB/s for the last hour+

I guess that can be the problem with lowendbox, apart from the good side it has a tenancy to attract people who think they can run cPanel, OpenVPN Access Server and a 100k hits p/day site on 96 or 128mb of ram.

If that’s your order that came in 3 minutes ago your HDD has been upgraded you just need to reboot your VPS for the extra disk space to allocate.

Backup space is a manual task and your details will be sent within 24 hours.

          Thanks.

Saying you can not launch anything is a bit vague, a number of people have taken this offer and immediately tried to install OpenVPN-AS or cPanel or ISPconfig and wondered why they ran out of resources.

      Happy to help though.

I tried again (changed country in user profile) and it seemed to work that time. It sent me to paypal payment page which collected payment and I got an email saying my server is activated, so it sounds like everything worked. Thanks! This is a pretty attractive offer and I’m surprised it didn’t sell out faster. I need another VPS like a hole in the head, but now that I have an overseas presence, I feel like an international tycoon ;-).

Inception seems to be a UK company. Why the NL hosting?

OK, working great. Box feels a bit laggier over SSH than my other VPS’s do, prob because they are much closer (lower ping time). apt-get install from debian repo ran at 400 kB/s or so, not too bad, I should look for a European mirror. I do feel a bit cramped with just 5gb of disk and will probably request the disk upgrade rather than more bandwidth. The debian-6 minimal install apparently uses around 900M, and I installed about 200M of packages so far (more to come), so I currently have 1.1G used and 3.7G free.

      • Hi Paul,

Nothing is set in stone if you want to mix it up a bit that is no problem, I could arrange for an upgrade to 10GB disk and 1/3 extra bandwidth instead if that is better for you?

        Anthony.

Thanks, I’ll leave it up in the air for now (I’m away from home among other things), but will probably request just disk space since I don’t plan to use all that much bandwidth. I’ll probably in turn use the disk space mostly to back up some other VPS data in a location geographically distant from its origin. Thanks also for putting up this offer in the first place, and for your sense of the LEB spirit.

    • This is also likely to be the last XEN based offer posted here as there is no intent to stand up new XEN nodes as Inception Hosting will be moving towards KVM for the start of 2012.

Doesn’t kvm allow memory overselling? :p

          from solus documentation

KVM allows overselling of the RAM so the settings don't have to be exact for Max Memory

        • I stand corrected then, never tried pushing it over allocation on the test rig, I have to say it is a shame as KVM so far seems to be the obvious way forward in the VPS market and the reason Inception hosting went with Xen instead of OpenVZ was the trust factor that the ram would not be over sold.

    • I have sent the November offer in to LEA…

Won’t post that one yet. I am doing minimum 1 post per provider per 30 days, and this post was made on 13 Oct.

Sorry time shoots by when your having fun I guess, cant believe it it was only Oct 13th, it seemed like an age ago.

I am aware of the rules, my mistake, I am just not aware of the passage of time it seems.

I don’t really need another VPS (still have a pair of BuyVM KVM’s (including a 500GB storage) waiting on me to set them up) but I couldn’t turn down such a great offer! :P

Also, it would seem that PayPal doesn’t agree with your (Google’s) conversion rates, was actually 7.09USD :)

        November 16, 2011 @ 1:08 pm | Reply
        • Haha fair one.

Paypal add a margin to the exchange and set their own, I was using the actual official exchange rate from xe.com :)

        • Although an after thought while getting a coffee just now, I guess its the paypal rate you care about as that’s the one you are going to be forced in to using :(

          *Noted for future.

  28. Another cheeky promo for a Friday.

Promo code: leb2only when ordering the VPS midi package

Again Limited to 2 uses only.

    512 MB RAM
    512 MB SWAP
    8 Cores (ES)
    30GB HDD
    400 GB Bandwidth

    5.10 euros p/month with the promo ($6.87)

source xe.com: 1 EUR = 1.35198 USD I wanted to base it on the payment gateway rates but they are both different so I have gone with the official exchange rate.

1 Person can take both and make 1 resource allocation change request or combine them in to 1 package. (only 1 IP)

I will probably continue doing this with different offers for the rest of the month to clear out the last of the XEN stock as Inception Hosting plans to move to KVM in the long term now.

    So say tuned :)

    Anthony.

  30. certainly like your web-site however you have to take a
look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding
it very troublesome to tell the reality on the
other hand I’ll certainly come back again.
