IPAP.co - $4.95 512MB OpenVZ VPS

Update December 2011 — IPAP.co’s website stopped working on 22 December, although the company has long gone already.

IPAP.co Someone from IPAP.co emailed in with their VPS plans that start from $4.95/month. Here is what you will get

  • 512MB guaranteed/768MB burstable memory
  • 50GB storage
  • 1000GB/month data transfer on 100Mbps
  • OpenVZ/vePortal

They are utilizing VolumeDrive’s network, i.e. Scranton and possibly going through BurstNet. VolumeDrive also have their own VPS packages with similar spec at the same price point — so I wonder whether one is just reselling the other. The descriptions on that page are quite vague. Any distribution on OpenVZ or CentOS on Xen — so is it OpenVZ or Xen?! The next sentence says “Servers will be delivered in OpenVZ environment with HyperVM/SolusVM/vePortal Control Panel” so which one are they using exactly? I guess vePortal as it is what VolumneDrive has been using.

Update: Correction from “Farzad the CEO”:

We do provide HyperVM and VePortal and even Vrtualizor
We RUN our own dedi boxes but we are reseller of Deicated Servers from VD
Also we can provide Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) using Citrix XenServer

IPAP is based in Alberta Canada based on its WHOIS info. Both ns3/ns4.ipap.co are pointing to the same IP address — so much for redundancy. Somehow their WHT account also show “disabled” but not sure what happened there.

  1. Maybe they’re trying to please everybody.

Really wish WHT would make public their public profiles.

Interestingly, to me at least, “pap” is Scottish slang…

    pap
    Noun.
    1. Nonsense, rubbish.
    2. Faeces.
Verb. To defecate. E.g.”He was so scared he papped his pants.”

iPap… well so do I but I don’t broadcast it.

    • Here in the US, a pap test is to detect abnormalities in the cells of a woman’s cervix. My understand is that it’s not very pleasant for the female who has one of these.

We are UAE,Turkey based and NEWLY we are opening a Canada Office :)
So IPAP is not bad meaning in our Language :)

And about our ToS , if YOU REALLY want a MORE strictly prohibiting ToS you can surely USE other hosts , i an guarantee you you would LOVE Staminus EVEN they have a Abuse Balance (i assume 1 abuse per month)

We actually write our OWN ToS and try to respect customer and prevent them FROM abusing our admiring service with SOME un-suspension/restoring fees :)
We have not charged ANY customer since now (even on IPAP.co or our local websites)

Any way getting down to argue about ToS is not something related to service :)
We appreciate if you get a service and REVIEW it instead of reviewing ToS :)

TERMS OF SERVICE IS NOT RELATED TO SERVICE.

This isn’t the language barrier it’s utter focking nonsense.

I think everyone on this page might have just violated article 8 of their poorly written TOS:

    Insulting IPAP Co. staff :
    – If any customer insults our services OR staff OR billing agents OR any thing related to our company , in any way like : live chat, ticket, telephone, email or any other communication stuff. his/her account will be suspended till he gives us a written copy of apologies .
Also we keep the right for our self to work on it via law enforcements .
    *** A $100 un-suspension fee will be applicable .

    So sensitive!

    • Agreed. The ToS is very poorly written and filled with lots of spelling mistakes.

I have something similar is our own ToS although I’ve only used it once with a spammer who I had warned previously. Booted them after their little rant in our support forums. Filled with rather interesting four letter words and ways that I should enjoy my own mother if you catch my drift.

I think most providers have something similar in theirs.

They link to a review site but yet there’s no reviews on there.

        • I did. It’s poorly written and filled with spelling mistakes. I would suggest reviewing other providers’ ToSes and running the document through a spell checker.

I can’t correct it for you as it;s a policy document and I don;t work for your company.

From reading your responses though here on this site as well as from viewing your website, I know I wouldn’t deal with your company. There’s an extreme lack of professionalism showing. I mean if your company can’t take the time to spell check your own policy documentation, how can I trust you with my data?

And they have a VDS page, with good plans too. Dedicated Core i7 with 512 and 50GB storage for $6.95, Xen or VMware… Sounds great :P

Before I bought the server I had quite a long chat with them and what they say is as same as what they expose here: They are UAE & Turkey based organization and planning to open an Office in Canada.

It’s been a month now, and I’m quite satisfied with them, as their e-mail response is quite fast. I got the feeling that they try to satisfy everybody… :)

        • It’s wordpress. It’s automatically GPL‘ed. Downloading it for free is not warez. If you’re going to use a tool, please understand the tool.

And please turn off the caps. All you’re doing is reinforcing other people’s opinion about your ability. Considering your previous examples of this company’s extreme lack or professionalism, that’s not too hard to do.

And would you please go back and spell check your ToS and in fact your entire website. If you can;t even spell the word Unlimited, how can we trust you with our data? And, yes, I would like an answer to that question.

and if you are reviewing our website please let us know where the problem is as we ask our customers and other people to report us if anything is wrong!

but for you , i think you are going somewhere else as you have a web hosting company and it seems and feels from your posts that you want to beat other by these kind of sayings! :)

        • fanovpn:

@drmike: Your link says nothing outside the .php files needs to be GPLed. CSS, images, etc. can all be under any license, including nonfree. No idea if that’s the case with the theme in question, but it sounds to me like the possibility exists for some themes to be warez if distributed without permission.

Also sounds to me like the SFLC claiming a theme’s PHP is derivative solely because it calls WordPress’s API and is designed to run in the context of wordpress. I suspect that claim is already a bit shaky, but if anyone ever creates any sort of non-GPLed software with a compatible API which can make use of (unmodified) wordpress themes, even that claim to the PHP files alone having to be GPLed would disappear. Personally I’d avoid redistributing/using a theme without either the author’s permission or an explicit license allowing that redistribution/use.

haha, just tried closing the tab with your earlier link to the download. Wow, that’s a sleazy site.

@fanovpn, it’s just one link, not the entire discussion behind it. Anything more than a couple of links gets the comment held up in moderation. You may want to become more familiar with WordPress as it appears that you may not be. WordPress has taken the opinion that everything within a theme has to be GPL’ed. (Even though the EFF says otherwise.)

And that’s not the only place where one can download that theme. (by the way, LEA, feel free to remove that link.)

I think, IPAP Co is good at what it does(technically). They just need to improve on a nitty gritty thing which some people might consider as turn off or think as warning signs for the nitty gritty.

I hired a dedicated box with them 7 days ago (2 days more than the wait time limit that is written on their site), and i still didnt have it delivered. I opened a ticket, But i got just the obvious response that it was late on schedule.

Im beggining to think I may never get my server….

  31. For those who come across this thread via a search, they may want to review this other thread:

    http://www.lowendbox.com/blog/ipap-co-xen-vmware-scranton/#comments

It covers their inability to take ownership of their problems, their inability to communicate, their inability resolve customer complaints, their inability to understand and use Paypal, their inability…

Ah hell, you get the idea.
